Groundwater Transducer Data

nwis.get_gwlevels has been turned off and I can now only retrieve manual field measurements. How do you retrieve continuous groundwater data from a tranducer?

Continuous groundwater transducer data is served by the new waterdata module via get_continuous() (15-minute values) or get_daily() for daily aggregates. The get_field_measurements() function referenced in the get_gwlevels deprecation message only covers discrete/manual readings, which is the gap you ran into.

Try this — verified working against a USGS well with an active transducer:

    monitoring_location_id="USGS-410252096185701",
    parameter_code="72019",  # depth to water level, below land surface
    time="2024-06-01T00:00:00Z/2024-06-02T00:00:00Z",
)

Other useful parameter codes: 62610 (groundwater level, NGVD29), 62611 (NAVD88). Up to 3 years per call; omit time for the most recent year. An API token via the API_USGS_PAT env var is recommended to avoid rate limits.

We'll update the deprecation message on nwis.get_gwlevels to point at get_continuous/get_daily as well — thanks for flagging.

Thanks, I had tried that previously but failed, but now realize I need to add USGS- before the id, before you just passed the number.
