Describe your issue

I use bun package manager introduced in 2026.1.11.
When I search a package existing in bun, no result is displayed after a search.
I add to install it manually bun add -g...
After installation, I see my package present in installed packages.

I have multiple packages and no upadate is poposed (I see that these packages have new release and I have to upgrade with command line myself

    Thanks for the report.

    The log shows this relevant line:

    Bun: Skipping global update detection because C:\Users\toto.bun\install\global is missing package.json

    UniGetUI is detecting the installed Bun packages, but package search and update detection do not appear to be working correctly in this setup.

    We'll review the Bun implementation and post an update here once we have more information.

    I tested with latest 2026.2.1
    WHen I search (discover packages) bun packages are displayed (it's ok)
    I install, and installation is successfull. I installed 2 packages (opencode-ai and omniroute).
    In section installed packages, I see nothing (bun packages are not present at all as if it was not installed but the 2 packages are properly installed in my bun installation folder)

    I think I'm running into a similar issue on UniGetUI 2026.2.5.0.

    My environment:

    • UniGetUI 2026.2.5.0
    • Windows 11 Pro 25H2
    • Bun installed and managed by mise

    Package discovery works correctly, and installing packages also succeeds. However, installed Bun packages are not shown in the Installed Packages tab.

    From reading PR #4880, it seems UniGetUI currently expects the global manifest to be located under the default Bun directory (e.g. ~/.bun/install/global/package.json).

    However, Bun does not always use that location.

    • If BUN_INSTALL is defined, Bun uses:
      • BUN_INSTALL/install/global/package.json
    • In XDG-based environments, Bun may instead use:
      • XDG_CACHE_HOME/bun/install/global/package.json

    Therefore, would it make sense for UniGetUI to search for the global manifest in something like this order?

    1. BUN_INSTALL/install/global/package.json
    2. XDG_CACHE_HOME/bun/install/global/package.json
    3. ~/.bun/install/global/package.json (fallback)

    As an additional improvement, I think it would be useful to provide an advanced setting allowing users to manually specify the location of the global package.json. This would make UniGetUI compatible with tools such as mise, portable Bun installations, and other non-standard setups.

    After some more investigation, I think the root cause is not mise itself, but the use of Bun's configurable global installation paths.

    In my case, I happened to install Bun with mise, but the actual issue is that my environment overrides the default global installation directory using Bun's supported configuration/environment variables.

    For example, Scoop also configures Bun this way:

    Also, Bun officially supports configuring the global installation directory through install.globalDir / BUN_INSTALL_GLOBAL_DIR:

    So this issue may affect any Bun installation that uses these supported configuration options, not just mise.

    Would it make sense for UniGetUI to resolve the global package location in something like this order?

    1. BUN_INSTALL_GLOBAL_DIR/package.json
    2. BUN_INSTALL/install/global/package.json
    3. XDG_CACHE_HOME/bun/install/global/package.json
    4. ~/.bun/install/global/package.json

    As an additional improvement, allowing users to manually specify the location of the global package.json would also make the Bun integration more robust.

    Bun support was fixed in #4880, and custom BUN_INSTALL / BUN_INSTALL_GLOBAL_DIR locations are honored since #5532.
