Thanks for opening this issue!
The report is fairly detailed with environment, commands, and partial logs. However, the relevant log output is truncated and does not show the final error or failure cause. Including the full stderr.txt content or complete steamcmd output would help diagnose the issue better. The locale warning might be relevant but is likely not the root cause. The user has done pre-checks and provided system specs, which is helpful.
Missing information:
Game name note: The user is installing the 7 Days to Die server using LinuxGSM sdtdserver script on Ubuntu 24.04.
This note was generated automatically by AI triage and may not be perfect. A maintainer will review shortly.

stderr.txt log file states:
the error I posted above was all which was shown, after that I was able to type again, so nothing more I could show from that.
bootstrap_log.txt:
Linux apps are up to date and nothing to upgrade/update.

Thanks for the extra details — that helps.
From what you shared, this still looks like a Steam-side app metadata issue for
294420(not a clear LinuxGSM regression): Steam login succeeds, thenapp_updatefails withMissing configuration.Could you run these and paste the output?
~/.local/share/Steam/logs/content_log.txtsteamcmd +login anonymous +app_info_update 1 +app_info_print 294420 +quitsteamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 294420 -beta latest validate +quitAlso let us know if it still fails after 12–24 hours, since Steam metadata propagation issues can resolve on their own.
I’ve also opened a LinuxGSM change to improve this error message path so future reports are easier to triage.

Closing because the additional diagnostic information requested on 7 August has not been provided. The available output shows Steam login succeeding and
app_update 294420failing withMissing configuration; it does not establish a LinuxGSM or Ubuntu regression. The diagnostic improvement mentioned above was merged in #4951 and now reports this SteamCMD error explicitly. That improves reporting but does not confirm that the underlying installation failure has been resolved.
If this still occurs, please open a fresh report with the Steam content log (
~/.local/share/Steam/logs/content_log.txt) and the output of the direct SteamCMD metadata and install tests requested above. Remove any credentials or tokens before sharing logs.
