Keyboard layouts #6

There is no way to change the keyboard layout. Personally, I tend to switch between Dvorak and qwerty so it would be helpful if the skin could reflect the current input method.

    @r3tex

    It would be wonderful to change the layout. I have an ortholinear split keyboard and use dvorak. It would be super sweet to have my real keyboard on display.

    You can change the layout internally by editing the .inc files.

    Look for:
    Main/Main.ini
    Main/Styles/[ADDYOURSTYLEHERE].inc (try to emulate the other ones)
    Global/Key[ADDYOURSTYLEHERE].inc (again, monkey see, monkey do)
    Vars.inc

    I'm still not exactly sure how or why it's been broken out into the modules the way it has, some kind of design philosophy and file structure I'm ignorant to. But, it looks like you can edit the inc files similarly to css. If you wanted to have DVORAK, you could reorder your keys in the Styles folder under a new Style/[Filename].inc and make the corresponding Key[Filename].inc in the Global folder. Then, go into the Vars.inc file, and set the Layout=[Filename].

    The styles file is how it's displayed, the Global files are the listeners and a little bit of the processors, I guess.

    So, if you look in the Styles file, its just a big list of keys, each with a Shape tag and a Label tag, sort of organized by rows left-to-right, with the first in each row having a special Shape tag. For QWERTY, it looks like:

    [KLabel]
    Meter=String
    MeterStyle=Key#RGB#:S
    Text=K
    [LShape]
    Meter=Shape
    MeterStyle=KeyB:S
    [LLabel]
    Meter=String
    MeterStyle=Key#RGB#:S
    Text=L
    [ZShape]
    Meter=Shape
    MeterStyle=KeyB:S
    X=(((#Circ#)110+(502+#KeyPadding#))#Scale#)
    Y=((50+#KeyPadding#)
    #Scale#)r
    [ZLabel]
    Meter=String
    MeterStyle=Key#RGB#:S
    Text=Z

    So, you could literally just reorganize it the way you want by copy-pasting things and fiddling with the relative locations. You can see, above, that the Z key has that different style, with X and Y coordinates, and the following letters just seem to follow the existing format, in rows.

    The only issue I see and haven't played with, is that the whole thing is set to autoupdate and that clears out/resets at least the existing files, maybe more, iunno. So, don't let it update and save your custom files elsewhere or use something else because I think the dev has abandoned this project, maybe as of 2022.

    It's unfortunate that since opening this, I have moved to Linux, and the creator has abandoned the project, but @scmstr's solution looks like a great option if someone wanted to do this.

    I don't know if I should close this because while my problem HAS been solved, this was more of a feature request, but thank you for your help.
