What this adds

1. A decide benchmark suite. It compares three ways to make a fixed-answer decision, on a 60-item labelled dataset with three tasks: route, apply and page_state.

  • qwen-free: the model answers in free text, and the label is parsed out.
  • qwen-schema: the same prompt, with the answer limited to the label list by llama-server's response_format json_schema enum.
  • gliner: GLiNER2.5-Decide (Fastino, Apache-2.0) on the CI runner's CPU. It is pinned to a commit and downloaded before production stops.

Each runner and task records accuracy (the dashboard pass rate), invalid answers, wall time per decision and, for Qwen, llama-server's own model-only time. Qwen wall time includes the tailnet and SSH tunnel; docs/benchmarks.md explains this.

2. Manual model choice in the benchmark action.

  • model: any models.ini.in preset. A test keeps this list equal to the preset file. The test server runs the image's own router (start-server.sh) with the worker's .env, so each model uses its production settings.
  • decision_model: one of five GLiNER2.5 models, or none.
  • ctx: optional. It overrides every per-model ctx variable, and the run always reads back the ctx the server really uses.
  • concurrency stays Qwen3.5-only, because the presets fix parallel = 1.
  • Each run gets a random API key, which is masked in the logs. The time budget now counts the new steps, so the production restore always fits in the job.

3. Dashboard. Decide cards show ms, host and invalid count. There is a time-per-decision chart and a decision-model column.

First measurement (local, CPU, gliner2[local] 2.1.0)

GLiNER2.5-Decide: 53/60 correct (88.3%), median about 112–193 ms per decision. The two runs varied.

Task Accuracy
route 80%
apply 85%
page_state 100%

The Qwen numbers come from the first real run of the action.

Verification

  • python3 -m unittest discover -s tests -q: 610 tests, OK (23 skipped), on Python 3.14 and 3.11.
  • shellcheck tests/bench/worker.sh: clean. actionlint: clean.
  • I checked the dashboard in a headless browser.
  • The workflow has not been run against the worker.

Known debt

  • p95 time is not shown. Per-item times are stored, so it can be added later.
  • One failing request ends that runner's results for the run. This is documented.
  • The 10-minute caps on the cache and install steps are estimates, not measurements.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a decision-making benchmark with three runners, reporting accuracy, invalid answers, and response times.
    • Added decision benchmark results to the dashboard, with dedicated suite cards, a time-per-decision chart, and decision-model details.
    • Added selectable model and decision-model presets, optional context sizing, and concurrency benchmarks for eligible presets.
    • Added context-size reporting for benchmark runs, with preset defaults used when context is left blank.
  • Documentation
    • Added guidance for running and interpreting decision benchmarks, including known reporting limits and concurrency availability.

GLiNER2.5-Decide on CPU scored 53/60 (88.3%), median 193 ms per decision,
on the new 60-item dataset (measured locally, gliner2[local] 2.1.0).

Final review fixes: every per-model ctx variable is overridden and the
real ctx is read back; step caps include the new cache/install steps;
GLiNER is downloaded at a pinned revision before production stops;
Qwen runners also record llama-server model-only time.

📝 Walkthrough

The benchmark workflow adds selectable decision models and a decide suite with three runners. It records per-runner results and adds Decide summaries, charts, and decision-model information to the dashboard.

Changes: Decision Benchmark

Layer / File(s) Summary
Model configuration and server setup
.github/workflows/benchmark.yml, tests/bench/worker.sh, tests/test_benchmark_workflow.py, tests/test_worker_script.py, tests/fixtures/decide/decision_models.json, docs/benchmark-action.md
The workflow validates model and decision-model settings, prepares router or direct server modes, and reads the server context. Tests and documentation cover the configuration and server paths.
Decide runners and suite planning
tests/bench/run_suites.py, tests/decide_bench.py, tests/fixtures/decide/*, tests/test_run_suites.py, tests/test_decide_bench.py, tests/test_script_permissions.py, docs/benchmarks.md, docs/benchmark-action.md
The planner schedules Decide runs and records decision-model metadata. The benchmark runs free-text Qwen, schema-constrained Qwen, and GLiNER against labelled fixtures, and reports scores, timings, and runner errors.
Result aggregation and dashboard
tests/bench/collect.py, tests/test_bench_collect.py, bench-site/app.js, bench-site/data/index.json, bench-site/style.css, tests/fixtures/bench/run-decide/*
The collector creates runner summaries. The dashboard displays Decide cards and a separate decision-time chart, and adds the decision model to the run table.

🤖 Completed: Fix CodeRabbit issues in PR #20 — View commit 82f9753

coderabbitai Bot and others added 2 commits October 12, 2026 18:04
Save decide.json after each runner, atomically, so a job killed at its
time cap keeps the runners that already finished.
