Just spotted HIDMaestro in libvirtualhid's related-work list. Thank you for the mention and the accurate writeup. Always nice to see another user-mode virtual-HID effort in the Windows space.

No ask at all, just a friendly hello. If it's ever useful, I'm happy to compare notes on the UMDF2 / WUDF side: the descriptor-synthesis quirks, HID string-ID behavior under MsHidUmdf, the device-node/PnP dance for clean enumeration across XInput/WGI/DirectInput, that kind of thing. There were a few sharp edges that took a while to map.

TBH, this is vibe coded so far and as of yet I have not even tested if any of this works. I gave the AI your project and WinUHid as references on the Windows side. Since both your projects are MIT and I wanted to use MIT anyway it worked out well. I didn't actually look at your code, but I'm sure I will after I start testing this and see things aren't working, lol.

The JSON profiles is a pretty cool feature of HIDMaestro. I didn't go with that route for now as I just wanted to see how viable this library even is.

Sunshine really needs an alternative to vigembus with modern gamepads. I thought this could be a good opportunity to try and have a cross platform library.

One thing I've heard is user mode drivers still require an EV signing certificate for Windows ARM. Not sure if that's actually true, but that's definitely something I have no way to work around and I don't plan on jumping through all those hoops anytime soon. I guess gaming on Windows ARM is probably not a popular choice though, so maybe it's not a big deal.
