…xceptions from submit_sync RemoteMpiCommSessionServer.mpi_future_callback forwards a failed worker's exception by putting future.exception() on the response queue. The client's submit_sync returned that payload verbatim, so a caller expecting List[T] received a bare exception object instead. CachedModelLoader._download_hf_model_if_needed then iterates that result, producing "TypeError: 'HFValidationError' object is not iterable" far from the real cause. The sibling sessions (MpiPoolSession, MpiCommSession) raise through future.result(); this makes the remote session consistent with them. Add focused unit tests for RemoteMpiCommSessionClient.submit_sync using an in-process queue stand-in: a forwarded worker exception is re-raised as the same object, and a successful result list is returned unchanged. Description
RemoteMpiCommSessionClient.submit_synccould return an exception object whereits callers expect
List[T].When a worker task fails, the server forwards the failure as the response
payload itself:
The client returned that payload verbatim, so the caller received a bare
exception instead of a list.
CachedModelLoader._download_hf_model_if_neededthen iterates it:
which raises
TypeError: '<SomeError>' object is not iterable— far from thereal cause, and hiding whatever the worker actually raised.
The other two sessions do not have this problem:
MpiPoolSession.submit_syncand
MpiCommSession.submit_syncboth return[future.result() for ...], andfuture.result()re-raises. This change makes the remote session consistentwith them.
Test Coverage
No new test. The change is a two-line guard on an error path that requires a
live remote MPI session with a failing worker to exercise; it has not been run
against such a session. It is derived from the two call sites quoted above.
Behaviour on the success path is unchanged:
