Add a BF16 fused gate/up GEMM + SwiGLU path to GatedMLP beside the NVFP4
one. On SM100-family GPUs with unquantized BF16 weights, no bias, plain
SwiGLU and no tensor parallelism, the gate/up projection calls QuACK's
gemm_act with activation="swiglu" and concat_layout=("B",), which applies
silu(gate) * up to the FP32 accumulators in the epilogue and stores only the
[M, I] product. The [M, 2I] BF16 intermediate and the separate silu_and_mul
kernel disappear and the output is rounded once instead of twice.
concat_layout=("B",) matches the [gate; up] weight layout so no weight copy
is needed; tuned=False pins QuACK's SM100 default tile because its autotuner
keys on exact shapes. QuACK is already a pinned dependency and is imported
lazily after install_cutlass_dsl_compatibility().
Tests compare the op against the unfused BF16 path and an FP64 oracle,
check rejected inputs, GatedMLP dispatch and the exclusion predicate.

Gate the QuACK gate/up GEMM + SwiGLU epilogue behind a new GatedMLP(use_quack_swiglu_epilogue=...) argument, off by default, so other BF16 models keep their GEMM provider and numerics; MiniMax-H3's blocks opt in. Restrict the path to SM100 and SM103, require K a multiple of 8 and an intermediate size a multiple of 128, keep the unfused path on any QuACK import failure with a warning, and drop the unused 3-D input branch. Tests cover the default-off behaviour and the alignment exclusion. Signed-off-by: Kanghwan Jang <861393+karljang@users.noreply.github.com>
…the SwiGLU epilogue The epilogue path replaces Linear.apply for gate_up_proj, so a projection configured with use_cute_dsl_bf16_gemm or use_custom_cublas_mm must keep that provider. Compare both replay outputs with eager results, and track the helper call during capture so the test cannot pass through the fallback path.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Description
Add an opt-in BF16 fused gate/up GEMM + SwiGLU path to
GatedMLPnext to the existing NVFP4 one. It is off by default and enabled per module withGatedMLP(fuse_bf16_gate_up_swiglu=True); MiniMax-H3 decides once in its model constructor (on for the BF16 configuration, with the reason next to it) and every other model keeps cuBLAS + the SwiGLU kernel and its numerics. One predicate,_can_fuse_gate_up_swiglu_bf16(x), decides per call: the module opted in and the kernel is available (SM100/SM103, QuACK importable, resolved at construction), the fusedgate_up_projwith plain SwiGLU (no limit, alpha or beta), an unquantized BF16 projection without bias, tensor parallelism or another GEMM provider (use_cute_dsl_bf16_gemm,use_custom_cublas_mm), a CUDA BF16 activation of rank ≥ 2 outside grad mode (the op has no backward), and K and I multiples of 8 (16-byte TMA rows; partial M and N tiles are handled by the kernel). When it holds, the gate/up projection calls QuACK'sgemm_act(..., activation="swiglu", concat_layout=("B",), tuned=False)on the 2-D view of the activation, which appliessilu(gate)·upto the FP32 accumulators in the GEMM epilogue and stores only the[M, I]product. The[M, 2I]BF16 intermediate and the separatesilu_and_mulkernel disappear, and the output is rounded once instead of twice.concat_layout=("B",)matches TRT-LLM's[gate; up]weight layout, so no weight copy or permutation is needed;tuned=Falsepins QuACK's SM100 default tile because its autotuner keys on exact shapes and would re-tune at every new token count. The custom optrtllm::gate_up_swiglu_quack_bf16validates the same dtype and shape conditions as the predicate, so a direct caller gets aValueError, not a kernel fault.QuACK 0.5.0 is already a pinned dependency (
quack-kernels==0.5.0, used by MiniMax-M3 MSA and FA4). Its import is resolved once inGatedMLP.__init__when the epilogue is requested; anImportErrorlogs a warning and keeps the unfused path. QuACK builds its kernel against the installed CUTLASS DSL at first use, and the two pins have drifted before (the CI image's currentnvidia-cutlass-dsl==4.8.0.dev0build rejects the 0.5.0 SM100 tile scheduler withValueError: too many values to unpack), so the first failure of the kernel disables it for the process: the op computes the unfused result,gate_up_swiglu_quack_available()turns False andGatedMLProutes later calls through its native path. Where the pins agree the epilogue runs; where they do not, BF16 models run as without this PR, with one warning. LoRA keeps its own path (forward_lora);split_gate_up, quantized and biased projections and TP>1 stay on the existing code. No configuration or public API changes.Origin: candidate 40 of the internal visual-gen-opt-agent MiniMax-H3 fusion campaign (GitLab
ftp/visualgen/visual-gen-opt-agent!87), moved from the H3 model intoGatedMLPas suggested there.Test Coverage
tests/unittest/_torch/modules/test_gate_up_swiglu_quack.py: the op against the unfused BF16 path and an FP64 oracle at five shapes including H3's[4096, 5376] × [28672, 5376]and two shapes whose 2I is not a multiple of the 256-wide default tile (fused error norm within 5 % of the unfused path's, outputs within 2⁻⁶ of the output scale); rejected inputs (dtype, odd 2I, rank, K mismatch, K or I not a multiple of 8);GatedMLPdispatch with the flag on (fused call observed, result close to the unfused path) and for a rank-3 input (flattened, bit-equal to its 2-D view); the predicate (off by default; excluded for a non-CUDA, non-BF16 or rank-1 activation, bias,split_gate_up, quantized projection, TP, another GEMM provider, clamped or parameterized SwiGLU, K or I not a multiple of 8, and grad mode);torch.compile(fullgraph=True)capturing exactly onetrtllm::gate_up_swiglu_quack_bf16node and matching eager; CUDA-graph capture and replay; and the fallback when QuACK does not import. On SM100/SM103 the kernel tests fail rather than skip if QuACK is missing, since it is a pinned dependency. Registered inl0_b200.yml.tests/unittest/_torch/visual_gen/test_minimax_h3_transformer.pygains two tests for the model-level decision: the flag is set on every refiner and transformer block of the BF16 configuration and on none of the dynamic FP8 / NVFP4 ones, and on SM100/SM103 each block's FFN takes the fused op exactly once at eligible shapes. The diff also touches thequack-kernelscomment inrequirements.txt(no version change); and a kernel that raises when first built (the CI drift above, simulated) leaves the op's result equal to the unfused computation, disables the kernel and theGatedMLPpredicate for the process, while the kernel tests skip with the reason when the kernel does not build on the CI image.f8128a143e, one B200, before the path became opt-in; the kernel call is unchanged since): LPIPS 0.048631 (threshold 0.15), audio log-STFT 0.004508 (threshold 0.10). On HEAD, the model-level wiring is covered bytest_bf16_blocks_run_the_fused_swiglu_epilogue(one B300: every refiner and transformer block's FFN takes the fused op exactly once at eligible shapes).853b26d9ae, one B200: with quantizedgate_up_projthe predicate keeps the unfused path; the compiled dynamic-quant smoke tests (FP8,FP8_BLOCK_SCALES,NVFP4) and the compiled blockwise-FP8 T2VA golden gate pass with LPIPS 0.117111 (threshold 0.15) and audio log-STFT 0.053363 (threshold 0.10).Performance
Headline (this branch, one B200, compiled, CUDA graphs off): at the pipeline's default canvas 768×1344 the epilogue saves 0.56 s per generation (Δ 0.68 %, S 1.0068×); at the example configs' 544×960 canvas it is within run noise (Δ −0.10 %). Details below.
Internal campaign (rc29, one B200, MiniMax-H3 768×1344, 124 frames, 28 points, three prompts, compile on, CUDA graphs off): standalone denoise 76.868 → 76.205 s (Δ 0.86 %), generation Δ 0.80 %, worst-prompt LPIPS 0.067; as the last rung of a four-candidate stack the same −0.61 s. In-model the QuACK gate/up+SwiGLU kernel takes 7.68 ms per block against 7.62 ms for the cuBLAS gate/up GEMM it replaces; the gain is the removed 0.54 ms activation kernel and the
[M, 2I]round trip.Confirmation on this branch (544×960 measured at
81614701c6with the path enabled, 768×1344 at853b26d9ae; the later commits made the path opt-in, moved the decision to the model and tightened the predicate without changing the kernel call; one B200, MiniMax-H3, 124 frames, 28 steps, seed 0, compile on, CUDA graphs off, bracket off → on → off, one excluded warmup and three timed generations per visit):Speedup ratio S = T_base / T_new; time reduction Δ = (1 − T_new / T_base) × 100. Local checks are not a CI pass.
The gain depends on the GEMM's M. At the pipeline's default canvas (768×1344, M ≈ 37.8k packed tokens, what
VisualGen.generate()produces without a size) the fused path saves 0.56 s per generation (Δ 0.68 %), reproducing the campaign's 0.80 %. At the example configs' 544×960 canvas (M ≈ 19.3k) it is within run noise of the baseline: QuACK's GEMM is slightly slower than cuBLAS and the removed activation kernel is smaller at that M. The path is therefore opt-in and enabled only for MiniMax-H3; this branch carries no per-kernel measurement of its own, only the two full-generation brackets above.PR Checklist
