Windows release build fails: libsql-sys uses Unix-only OsStrExt/std::os::unix APIs, won't compile for x86_64-pc-windows-msvc #2280
The Windows release build fails to compile — a pre-existing, unrelated failure hit while cutting v0.2.1 (2026-08-24), nothing to do with that release's own changes.
Error
error[E0433]: cannot find `unix` in `os`
error[E0599]: no method named `as_bytes` found for reference `&OsStr` in the current scope
error: could not compile `libsql-sys` (lib) due to 2 previous errors
Target: x86_64-pc-windows-msvc. Both errors point at libsql-sys using std::os::unix-only APIs (OsStr::as_bytes() is the Unix-only OsStrExt trait method; std::os::unix doesn't exist as a module on Windows at all) on a build that's supposed to target Windows.
Where to look
The pinned libsql/libsql-sys version in Cargo.lock — check whether a newer version fixes Windows support, or whether a feature flag needs adjusting for the Windows target.
Whether this is reachable from a feature that shouldn't be enabled on Windows (e.g. some Unix-specific code path compiled unconditionally).
Blocks Windows releases entirely (no .msi/Windows binaries can currently be published). Does not affect macOS or Linux, so not urgent relative to those platforms, but a real, standing gap.
Found while cutting the v0.2.1 release (2026-08-24) — not caused by that release's changes.
