Migrate deployment from Netlify to GitHub Pages #205
Netlify free tier exhausted its build minutes at the start of the month. GitHub Pages is the natural replacement: it is free, integrates directly with the existing GitHub Actions CI/CD pipeline, and aligns with the broader move toward GitHub-native tooling. This ticket covers the near-term migration.
📦 Scope
Add a GitHub Actions deploy workflow that builds the Vite/React app using actions/configure-pages, actions/upload-pages-artifact, and actions/deploy-pages
Configure the GitHub repo to serve GitHub Pages from the correct branch/directory
Update any environment variables or secrets currently in Netlify to GitHub Actions secrets
Verify custom domain (if any) points to GitHub Pages instead of Netlify
Remove or disable Netlify configuration (netlify.toml, Netlify env vars) once GH Pages is confirmed working
Update README/docs references from Netlify to GitHub Pages
🚫 Out of Scope
Any changes to the app itself (no feature work)
Setting up staging/preview environments (follow-up ticket)
Migrating Netlify form handling or serverless functions (MusterDeck does not use them)
✅ Acceptance Criteria
App builds and deploys via GitHub Actions on every merge to main
Deployed site is accessible via GitHub Pages URL (or custom domain)
No Netlify dependency remains in the CI/CD pipeline
All required environment variables are present as GitHub Actions secrets
🧪 Testing / Validation
Merge to main triggers the deploy workflow and it passes
Visit the deployed URL and verify the app loads correctly
Auth flows work on the deployed site (Supabase redirect URLs updated if needed)
🧰 Implementation Notes
GitHub Pages with Vite requires setting base in vite.config.ts if deploying to a subpath (e.g. //); not needed for a custom domain at root
Supabase auth redirect URLs will need to be updated in the Supabase dashboard to point to the new Pages URL
