Description
Summary
In the OpenCode desktop app on Windows, clicking the attach (add images/files) button in the chat input always fails with the error "Request failed. Desktop IPC handler failed." Files/images cannot be attached to a conversation at all.
Environment
opencode version: 2.0.12 (desktop app, "latest" channel; a 2.0.15 update is staged but the updater failed to apply it)
OS: Windows_NT 10.0.22631 (Windows 11, x64)
Terminal: Desktop app (Electron renderer; not a TUI session)
Shell: C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe (host context)
Install/channel: latest (desktop release)
Active plugins: None found in config
Reproduction
Open the OpenCode desktop app on Windows.
Open any chat session.
Click the attach button (paperclip / add images & files) in the message input.
Attempt to pick any file or image.
Expected Behavior
The file picker should open, and the selected image(s)/file(s) should be attached to the message draft.
Actual Behavior
Every attempt fails immediately with a toast/error in the app:
Request failed
Desktop IPC handler failed
No file picker opens and nothing is attached. Frequency: every time. This was the user's first attempt to use the attach feature.
Additional Context
Consistent 100% reproduction on the attach button in chat input on Windows.
From the server log (~/.local/share/opencode/log/opencode.log), repeated background requests to /api/rpc/experimental.browser/attach return HTTP 400/499, though the failing action here is the desktop chat attach IPC path, not the experimental browser feature.
Desktop app logs show an unrelated warning that a staged update to 2.0.15 could not be applied: updater refresh failed, keeping staged update { staged: '2.0.15', message: 'net::ERR_NETWORK_IO_SUSPENDED' } (machine was suspended during download).
Renderer log shows only benign ResizeObserver loop completed with undelivered notifications entries; no renderer-side stack trace was captured at the moment of the IPC failure.
The workspace directory is not a git repository (C:\Users\HP245\Documents\Default Project), in case workspace setup plays a role.
Workarounds attempted: none succeed — the failure happens before the OS file picker appears. Restarting the app did not help.
