feat(platform)!: a warning list for moderated contracts - #4872
Conversation
A moderated data contract may keep a third list, the warning list: a warn adds a warning, the block time and a reason, to an identity's entry, at most `SystemLimits::max_contract_warnings_per_identity` (16) at a time, and a clearWarnings deletes the entry. A warning bars nothing: the document gate, the ban's reads and the ban's proof now use `barring_lists()`, which leaves the warning list out; a ban leaves the warnings alone and a barred identity may still be warned. Two actions on `ContractUserModeration` (`warn`, `clearWarnings`), two state errors (41117, 41118), the list at key 224 of the contract's other tree, `warnings` on the status and entries queries and their proofs, and the Rust, wasm and JavaScript SDK surfaces. Protocol version 14, edited in place. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>

The `warnings` field goes last in the config's bincode layout, so a declaration stored by a 4.2 beta fails to decode at its end rather than misreading the moderators; `encode_warnings` refuses a reason the length prefix can not measure; a warning entry carries its reason once, with the warnings, and the unproved decoder refuses a second one; the mempool refusal of a warn past the limit is tested. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Issue being fixed or feature implemented
Contract moderation shipped with a banlist (#4830), a suspension list and reasons on both (#4849). A moderation team still had nothing lighter than a suspension: no way to record, in consensus state, that an identity was told off, and no way for the identity or anyone else to read that it was, and why. Warnings are that step. They are what an application shows before it silences or bans, and what a moderator reads to decide the next step.
What was done?
A warning list as a third moderation list, PV14, edited in place like the rest of the feature (nothing in the version tables moves except two Drive method slots and one system limit).
Declaration and types (dpp)

A warning needs a reason (text may be empty), bounded like a ban's.ContractUserNotWarnedError(41117) andContractUserWarningLimitReachedError(41118).SystemLimits::max_contract_warnings_per_identity= 16.A reason names the documents it is about (every action)

At mostSystemLimits::max_contract_moderation_reason_documents(16), none twice, each with a type name a contract could admit; refused unpaid withInvalidContractModerationReasonDocumentsError(10904). Existence is not checked: a cited document may be gone or may never have existed, and nothing is read for it.documentson the proto reason (ids as 32 bytes) and on the JS reason (documents?: [{ documentTypeName, documentId }], ids as base58), left out when empty.Rules

224of the contract's other tree, above the suspension list (see the decisions below for why not below128); the Merk layout test covers every combination of lists.warned_at u64 BE ‖ reason length u16 BE ‖ reason, oldest first. A warn on an identity that carries warnings rewrites the entry whole (batch_replace), which is longer, so the entry passes to the moderator that warned last, who pays the added bytes and gets the refund on clearing (the same merge a longer suspension replacement goes through; test pins it). An estimate prices a replacement as a fresh insert of the whole entry, and a test pins estimate >= applied up to the fullest entry the protocol admits.contracts.contract.other.warningsdescribed, fixture extended, JSON regenerated.Queries and clients
CONTRACT_MODERATION_LIST_WARNINGS = 3,ContractWarning,warningson the status and on entries (an entry of the warning list carries every warning and noreasonof its own on the wire: its reason is the latest warning's, and the unproved decoder refuses a second one). Clients regenerated.warn_contract_user/clear_contract_user_warnings; wasm-dpp2warn/clearWarningsactions andwarningson the proof result; wasm-sdkcontractWarnUser/contractClearUserWarnings,'warnings'list kind,warningson statuses and entries; js-evo-sdkcontracts.warnUser/clearUserWarnings.How Has This Been Tested?
Breaking Changes
PV14 is unreleased;
ContractModerationConfig,ContractModerationStatusandContractModerationEntrygain a field, and the wire enum a value. The TypeScriptContractModerationConfigrequireswarnings.Dev networks that stored a moderated contract under a 4.2 beta need a reset: the config's bincode layout gained a field (placed last, so such a contract fails to decode at its end rather than misreading the moderators), and the same goes for the moderation entries of #4849 before it.
Decisions taken here, open to change
224, above the suspension list. Thepaths.rsrule asked for later keys below128, but measured, 112 puts the warning list on top for a contract keeping the banlist and warnings, while 224 keeps the banlist on top in three of the four creation combinations (the exception: all three lists with no removal records). The Merk layout test pins every combination.Checklist
