FEAT: prompt history for dream script

Every time I go to edit and re-run a previous run, I hit up-arrow 😆 (talk about muscle memory).

IIRC, we're using 'readline' - could that be leveraged to at least provide history from the current session?

On Linux systems the GNU readline() module is active and in fact it both retains memory from the current session as well as the last 1000 commands from the previous session (in a .history file). So I assume you're a Windows guy. Right at the beginning of this project, I tried to use the pyreadline package, but it was not maintained and wasn't working with python3. I then moved to pyread3 but it too wasn't working well in my hands.

If you have tips for getting either of these to work, or can point me at a GNU readline-dropin that does, I'd be most grateful!

In git bash on windows it works alot better if you start the dream.py script prefixed with winpty command:
winpty scripts/dream.py ...
Not sure that it is your issue here but in case it could help some1 else...

Ah hah! I will have to steal my son’s gaming computer again to check that out. Does this also work with the Anaconda shell? BTW I’m looking for a way to edit python’s input buffer programmatically. I’ve got command completion going well on Linux, and would like to implement something that works on Windows generically. Lincoln

@dagf2101, @lstein; Since we included pyreadline3 into the Windows dependencies, this whole thread is moot - it Just Works. I've tested cmd, Powershell 7.3-pre, and Git Bash and command history/tab completion work as expected.

History saving (or loading... not sure which) currently doesn't work, but that's not a feature I'm pining for - I can easily load the parms from any previous generation.
