feat(anthropic): keep Claude fast mode off until the provider opts in - #5727
Conversation
Anthropic fast mode spends usage credits at 2x price. The anthropic and anthropic-apikey registry entries now mark their Fast lane opt-in, and a new providers.<name>.fastEnabled switch turns it on. While off, the models publish no Fast toggle or --fast row and the proxy never sends speed. The dashboard Models page gains an Off/On row on opt-in provider cards. Cursor Fast and every other provider are unchanged.

Preserve Fast opt-in across provider overwrites
After a user enables Fast mode through this PATCH field, a later POST /api/providers overwrite silently removes the setting because gui/src/provider-payload.ts does not send fastEnabled and the POST handler does not carry it forward from the existing provider, unlike other PATCH-owned options such as upstreamWebsocket. For Anthropic this unexpectedly turns Fast mode back off after an unrelated provider edit or API overwrite; sample field ownership before enrichment and preserve the latest value when the POST omits it.

Fixed in d312db2. A full POST /api/providers save that omits fastEnabled now keeps the live value, the same way upstreamWebsocket is carried. The opt-in test covers a form-shaped overwrite after the PATCH.

The provider edit form never sends fastEnabled, so a POST overwrite dropped an Anthropic Fast opt-in set from the Models page. Carry the live value when the request omits it, like upstreamWebsocket.

Keep the Fast control synchronized after a successful save.
Line 1682 starts load(true) without awaiting its result. After the PATCH succeeds, ProviderFastRow clears busy, but its selected value still comes from the old summary.fastOptIn.enabled. If the user turns Fast On, the row can show Off while Fast is active. Clicking Off then does nothing because save compares the click with the stale value. A failed catalog reload leaves the mismatch in place.
Update the displayed value from a confirmed save, or keep the control pending until the reload succeeds. If the reload fails, show a refresh error and provide a retry. As per path instructions, “Check that GUI state changes stay consistent with the management API responses.”

Fixed in d77743e. The row now keeps the confirmed save as its displayed value until the reloaded summary moves off the value it was saved from, so it can't fall back to a stale Off or ignore the next click. If the reload fails, the page's usual load error handling reports it.

@lidge-jun, I verified the confirmed-value change in d77743ead5. In gui/src/pages/models-fast-row.tsx Lines 19–34, the row keeps the saved value while the provider summary is stale. The control no longer falls back to Off after a successful save.
The reload-failure path still needs attention. In gui/src/pages/Models.tsx Lines 566–580, load(true) returns false on failure. The callback at Line 1682 ignores that result. The page’s existing catalog error depends on the separate data-surface resource, so this manual reload failure does not reliably show an error or offer a retry.
Please handle a false result from load(true) in the Fast row save flow. Keep the confirmed value, report that the catalog refresh failed, and provide a retry. I’ll leave this thread open for that remaining case.
You are interacting with an AI system.
The row read its value only from the provider summary, so it showed the old state until the catalog reload landed and a click on the stale option was ignored. Hold the confirmed save until the summary moves. Also qualify the structure note: the switch stops proxy-generated speed, while native passthrough still forwards a caller's own speed.

Clear the saved value as soon as the provider summary moves off the value the save started from, so a later change by another client is shown as-is. Name the model-level Fast toggle in the structure note.

Anthropic fast mode (

The switch is resolved once (

Native Claude Messages passthrough still forwards a
speedfield that the caller sends itself (Claude Code/fast); that request never reaches the proxy Fast policy. The docs note this.Verification
