Summary

  • Fixes [Bug][macOS] Bundled 2.68.0 ocx cannot load @napi-rs/keyring #6139 by staging the exact target @napi-rs/keyring-* native addon outside Bun's virtual $bunfs for every standalone build.
  • Resolves the optional addon from @napi-rs/keyring's own dependency scope, so packaging does not depend on package-manager hoisting.
  • Restricts packaged path probing to compiled binaries and derives paths from the canonical executable root. Source/npm installs keep ordinary package resolution and never probe beside shared Bun/Node.
  • Loads standalone addons from adjacent keyring/; macOS desktop uses Contents/Resources/keyring; Linux Tauri sidecars in usr/bin use the fixed usr/lib/OpenCodex/keyring resource layout.
  • Packages both Darwin architectures for the universal app, carries the addon in standalone archives and Tauri resources, and fails the build if the pinned target optional dependency is absent.
  • Adds bounded, load-only signed macOS and extracted-AppImage probes from unrelated working directories. They verify both constructors without touching an OS credential or depending on a Keychain consent dialog.
  • Documents the packaging contract and decision in ADR-6139.

Why this shape

Bun cannot materialize a N-API .node file from the compiled executable's virtual filesystem. Copying only the pinned platform addon keeps runtime resolution deterministic, avoids a runtime download, and does not make cwd or an ambient environment variable a native-code search path.

The release job checks both Darwin resource files in the universal app and then runs the signed bundle verifier. Desktop preparation always rebuilds the sidecar/addon pair, preventing stale dist/standalone output from entering a bundle. Ordinary PR CI extracts the real Linux AppImage and runs the same load-only probe against its usr/bin sidecar.

Verification

All local commands ran in disposable homes under CPUQuota=75% or lower, MemoryMax=1536M or lower, MemorySwapMax=0, and TasksMax=64 or lower.

  • Final packaging/workflow group — 59 pass, 0 fail.
  • Linux desktop workflow contract — 1 pass, 0 fail.
  • Provider/native-profile key-store group — 24 pass, 0 fail.
  • Earlier focused workflow/release/desktop group — 221 pass, 0 fail.
  • bun x tsc --noEmit — pass after production changes.
  • bun run structure:check — pass after final docs/ADR changes.
  • Minimal bun build --compile probe, launched from /tmp, loaded the staged Linux keyring addon successfully.

Not run locally: full suite, a macOS Tauri bundle, or a Linux AppImage build. Exact packaged-app proofs are wired into hosted CI/release jobs. No automated security scan was run.

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults. Maintainer review is required for the native-loader and release-workflow boundary.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Improvements
    • Standalone and desktop packages include the platform-matching native component for operating-system credential-store access, including both architecture variants in universal macOS apps.
    • Standalone installation guidance explains which companion folders must remain beside the binary.
  • Reliability
    • Release and CI checks verify that packaged credential-store components load successfully on Linux and macOS.

앱은 Contents/Resources/keyring에서 열고, 압축본은 실행 파일 옆 keyring/에서 엽니다.

라인 - .github/workflows/ci.yml native / desktop 필터 — 애드온을 여는 파일은 src/lib/keyring-native.ts이고, 빌드가 복사하는 파일은 scripts/standalone-keyring.ts입니다. 둘 다 필터에 없습니다. 이번 PR은 desktop/**와 ci.yml도 고쳐져 있어서 맥 번들 잡이 실행됩니다. 나중에 로더만 고치면 그 잡이 빠질 수 있습니다.

라인 - desktop/scripts/prepare-sidecar.ts — ocx가 이미 있으면 스탠드얼론 빌드를 건너뜁니다.

릴리스 맥 잡에서는 lipo 뒤에 앱 안에 keyring.darwin-arm64.node와 keyring.darwin-x64.node가 둘 다 있는지 확인하세요. native와 desktop 필터에 로더와 scripts/standalone-keyring.ts를 넣으세요. ocx는 있는데 keyring/이 없으면 다시 빌드하세요.

Addressed the current maintainer and CodeRabbit review points in 124252b313:

  • replaced the real Keychain status call with a bounded, load-only packaged binding probe, so CI neither reads/writes a credential nor depends on a consent dialog;
  • moved the two-architecture proof to the universal macOS release job; the ordinary widget lane remains host-architecture only;
  • added the loader/stager files to the CI path filters;
  • made desktop preparation always rebuild the sidecar/addon pair instead of reusing stale dist/standalone output;
  • resolved target optional addons from @napi-rs/keyring's module-resolution scope rather than assuming a top-level hoist;
  • bounded probe timeout/failure diagnostics and updated the architecture decision/docs.

Fresh capped verification after the follow-ups: focused packaging tests 16/16, workflow/release/desktop tests 221/221, TypeScript typecheck pass, structure check pass. CPU was capped at 75%, memory at 1536 MiB, swap disabled. No full suite and no automated security scan were run locally.

@lidge-jun please re-review the exact head when hosted CI settles.

Follow-up d376e38f6a addresses the retained path-precedence concern from the review: macOS now prefers the addon in the executable-owned adjacent keyring/ directory before considering the app resource fallback. This prevents an unrelated app-shaped ../Resources tree from overriding a standalone archive’s own addon. The focused packaging tests remain 16/16 under CPU/RAM caps.

Follow-up 04a6d8ef69 closes two independent packaging gaps found on the previous head:

  • source/npm runtimes no longer probe beside shared Bun/Node; packaged candidates are compiled-only and use the canonical real executable root, so symlinked launchers still resolve their own assets;
  • Linux Tauri resources are loaded from the exact usr/bin/ocx → usr/lib/OpenCodex/keyring bundle layout, and ordinary PR CI now extracts the real AppImage and runs the bounded __keyring-load-check from an unrelated cwd.

The CI path filter now includes src/lib/standalone.ts, productName drift is pinned, standalone install docs name the required keyring/ directory, and the workflow wiring has a structured contract test.

Fresh capped verification: final packaging/workflow group 59/59, Linux workflow contract 1/1, TypeScript typecheck pass, structure check pass; hard RAM cap 1536 MiB, CPU cap 75% or lower, swap disabled. No full suite, local desktop bundle, or automated security scan was run.

@lidge-jun please re-review exact head 04a6d8ef69 after hosted CI settles.

Hosted CI on 04a6d8ef69 exposed three exact contract gaps, fixed in bdeb0804d8: the native-scope exact-membership test now includes the loader/stager files; the desktop-shell preflight creates the declared keyring resource directory before Cargo checks; and the macOS verifier canonicalizes its app argument before changing to the scratch cwd. Fresh capped focused rerun: 75/75 pass. The earlier macOS failure was the relative verifier path, and Linux failed before packaging because the declared resource directory was absent. @lidge-jun please review the new exact head after rerun; @coderabbitai review

@Ingwannu, thanks for the CI details. I’ll review the new head, bdeb0804d8, with attention to the macOS verifier path, the Linux resource preflight, and the native-scope test. I have not independently verified the reported 75/75 result.

Fixed the exact-head file-size failure in 69c2f6b. The private keyring load probe now uses a literal dynamic import, so Bun still bundles the native-loader path while the merged src/cli/index.ts stays within the 2,000-line ratchet. Capped local verification: file-size ratchet + keyring smoke + standalone build contract 26/26, and typecheck passed (CPU 75%, MemoryMax 1536M, no swap). No full suite or security scan was run.

@Ingwannu, I’ll review head 69c2f6bd9d. I’ll check the src/cli/index.ts file-size change and whether the literal dynamic import preserves the packaged keyring load probe. I have not independently verified the reported 26/26 checks or typecheck.

macOS CI revealed the ratchet rejects 2,000 lines as well as values above it. Head 4475196 removes one adjacent blank line, so the current merge result is below the threshold. The same capped 26-test packaging/file-size group passes again. No full suite or security scan was run; exact-head CI is rerunning.

Exact head 4475196 now has no failed or pending checks; all hosted functional, packaging, macOS, Windows and desktop-shell jobs are green. The earlier actionable native-scope resolution finding was addressed by resolving/staging the compiled addon from the package-owned scope. @lidge-jun please perform the requested final review; I am keeping the PR draft until that maintainer review lands.

Independent re-review on exact head 4475196 found no remaining P0-P2 in the implementation: executable-relative resolution, target-specific packaging, universal macOS addon requirements, fail-closed runtime behavior, and load-only CI probes all line up with #6139.\n\nHOLD before approval, however: current dev is 09f8e5e, 27 commits ahead. CI validated an older synthetic merge, and later dev changes overlap src/cli/index.ts; the current enforce-target result is also a concurrency cancellation rather than a green check. Please update/rebase, rerun the exact-head required CI, and keep the draft until it is green. The remaining release-only proof is a notarized universal app launched from an unrelated cwd with both arm64/x64 addon loads; that limits when #6139 can be called released, not the code review. @luvs01 @lidge-jun

Additional review of exact head 44751969e00d6033146a7226216d73fc6bc6ea1f.

The native-addon staging, executable-relative loader, target mapping, desktop resources, and packaged-load checks were reviewed alongside the earlier dependency-scope finding. One additional installation-layout case needs verification: a symlinked wrapper with its optional dependency beside it in the package manager's virtual store, rather than a physically nested wrapper dependency.

I executed a resolution-only fixture under Node v22.16.0. The current createRequire(join(repoRoot, "node_modules", "@napi-rs", "keyring", "package.json")) expression returned MODULE_NOT_FOUND for an installed optional addon in that layout. Resolving the wrapper's actual entrypoint first and creating the require from that returned path succeeded. No native code or credential-store operation was executed.

Validation limit: the build script runs under the project's pinned Bun, and I did not execute this fixture under Bun 1.4.0 or run the repository suite. Consequently this is a COMMENT requesting a targeted regression check, not a claim that the hosted Bun build has been reproduced as failing and not a new blocking change-request review. Please run the symlinked-layout case against stageStandaloneKeyringAddon under the pinned runtime; if it reproduces, anchor resolution to the resolved wrapper entrypoint/real package path and retain the regression test.

The current-head CI workflow results report success. That does not by itself exercise this installation topology or establish signed macOS release readiness.

Independent Bun 1.4.0 verification — 2026-09-29

The previously open Bun check is now complete for exact head 4475196. Under pinned Bun 1.4.0 (34cbb9a40) on Windows, I invoked the unmodified stageStandaloneKeyringAddon function in an isolated pnpm-style virtual-store layout using directory junctions: the wrapper and optional dependency resolve to sibling package scopes in the real store. The optional addon file contained inert text and was never loaded as native code.

The current createRequire anchor returned MODULE_NOT_FOUND, and the actual staging function raised its 'Missing @napi-rs/keyring-linux-x64-gnu/...; install target optional dependencies' error despite that fixture dependency being present. Resolving the wrapper entrypoint first produced the expected real addon path. As a control, the same staging function successfully copied the same-kind inert addon from a physically nested dependency layout.

This confirms the reported resolution defect under the project's pinned runtime, not just Node. It does not claim that the current hosted install topology fails, nor that macOS signing or OS credential access was exercised. The original COMMENT remains a non-blocking review record; no finding is withdrawn and no duplicate thread was added.

Please test a symlinked wrapper, not only a physically nested optional package.

The existing staging test constructs node_modules/@napi-rs/keyring/node_modules/<addon>. An isolated/pnpm-style layout instead links node_modules/@napi-rs/keyring into a virtual store, with the addon available from the real wrapper's parent node_modules scope. Under Node 22, constructing createRequire from the unresolved top-level symlink path does not reach that sibling addon. I verified MODULE_NOT_FOUND with the following inert filesystem fixture; using the wrapper's resolved entrypoint is the passing control. Please repeat the case with the actual staging function under pinned Bun before deciding whether a production fix is needed.

// Save as keyring-resolution.mjs; resolution only, never loads a .node file.
import assert from 'node:assert/strict';
import { mkdtempSync, mkdirSync, writeFileSync, symlinkSync, rmSync, realpathSync } from 'node:fs';
import { tmpdir } from 'node:os';
import { join, relative } from 'node:path';
import { createRequire } from 'node:module';
const root = mkdtempSync(join(tmpdir(), 'ocx-keyring-resolution-'));
try {
  const nm = join(root, 'node_modules');
  const scope = join(nm, '@napi-rs');
  const parent = join(nm, '.pnpm', '@napi-rs+keyring@1.3.0', 'node_modules');
  const wrapper = join(parent, '@napi-rs', 'keyring');
  const packageName = '@napi-rs/keyring-linux-x64-gnu';
  const addon = join(nm, '.pnpm', '@napi-rs+keyring-linux-x64-gnu@1.3.0', 'node_modules', packageName);
  const filename = 'keyring.linux-x64-gnu.node';
  for (const path of [scope, wrapper, addon]) mkdirSync(path, { recursive: true });
  writeFileSync(join(root, 'package.json'), JSON.stringify({ name: 'fixture' }));
  writeFileSync(join(wrapper, 'package.json'), JSON.stringify({ name: '@napi-rs/keyring', main: 'index.js' }));
  writeFileSync(join(wrapper, 'index.js'), 'module.exports = {};');
  writeFileSync(join(addon, 'package.json'), JSON.stringify({ name: packageName, main: filename }));
  writeFileSync(join(addon, filename), 'inert fixture');
  symlinkSync(relative(scope, wrapper), join(scope, 'keyring'), 'dir');
  symlinkSync(relative(join(parent, '@napi-rs'), addon), join(parent, packageName), 'dir');
  const current = createRequire(join(root, 'node_modules', '@napi-rs', 'keyring', 'package.json'));
  let failure;
  try { current.resolve(packageName); } catch (error) { failure = error.code; }
  const project = createRequire(join(root, 'package.json'));
  const anchored = createRequire(project.resolve('@napi-rs/keyring'));
  assert.equal(anchored.resolve(packageName), realpathSync(join(addon, filename)));
  console.log({ runtime: process.version, currentResolverFailure: failure ?? null, resolvedWrapperControl: 'PASS' });
} finally {
  rmSync(root, { recursive: true, force: true });
}

Observed under Node v22.16.0: currentResolverFailure: 'MODULE_NOT_FOUND', resolvedWrapperControl: 'PASS'. Bun behavior remains to be checked; this comment intentionally does not equate a Node resolver reproduction with a failed Bun build.

Fixed in 14b6769, after merging current dev. The stager now resolves @napi-rs/keyring from the project and creates its resolver from the resolved entrypoint, so a symlinked wrapper reaches the optional addon beside its real virtual-store package. Added an inert symlinked-layout test: it failed with the previous MODULE_NOT_FOUND behavior and passes after the fix. The five focused lane test files pass (76 tests), as does typecheck. Packaged exact-head CI is pending.

Resolve the wrapper entrypoint before locating its optional native addon, so virtual-store package layouts stage the installed addon. Cover nested and symlinked layouts.

Maintainer integration for RT6 (2.73.0).

  • Exact-head CI run 36606990874 on 14b6769: all executed jobs success, including macos widget + bundle (signed app, __keyring-load-check from an unrelated cwd returned {"schema":"ocx-keyring-load/1","available":true}), desktop shell (Linux AppImage/deb sidecar probe) and keyring macos/ubuntu/windows.
  • Independent security review of the native loader, staging scripts and ci.yml/release.yml changes: approve, no findings.
  • Evidence limit: the packaged probe is load-only; an OS credential operation through the packaged sidecar was not exercised (separate keyring smoke jobs cover the OS operation from source). [Bug][macOS] Bundled 2.68.0 ocx cannot load @napi-rs/keyring #6139 will be closed with that limit stated.
  • Merges cleanly with current dev (overlap is docs/devlog only).

* fix(release): sign the packaged macOS keyring addons before notarization

Notarization rejected the 2.73.0 preview app: Resources/keyring/*.node, bundled
since #6161, were unsigned or ad-hoc and had no secure timestamp, and Tauri does
not sign files under Resources. Sign each darwin addon in place with the
Developer ID identity, hardened runtime and timestamp after the certificate
import and before tauri build, verify the result, and fail a real release that
lacks signing material.

Both v2.40.0 release dispatches (33615174183 preview, 33615177849 main) died
at startup_failure: a workflow_call cannot grant its callee more than the
calling job holds, and dev-version-bump.yml's job declares contents+pull-
requests write. #3129 wired the call but never dispatched a release, so this
is its first live run. The caller job now declares exactly the callee's two
permissions; no other job in release.yml gains anything.

* release: set main channel version 2.48.0

* chore(release): promote 2.55.0-preview.20260914 to preview

Promotes the dev product snapshot 62f0222 to the preview train.

The 2.55.0 line carries the #4546 cost-guard work: one send budget per logical request with a
shared final-recovery reserve, zero-is-zero refusals with a typed error rather than a synthetic
502, compact and the Kiro inner retries admitted against that budget, a finite send ceiling per
root workflow with an interactive reserve a fan-out cannot take, and a healthy detour promoted on
transient-hold expiry instead of released cold.

The previous preview tip 2.54.0-preview.20260914 is already tagged and published and is outranked
by v2.54.0, so it could not be re-released; this is a new candidate rather than a re-cut.

* chore(release): promote the verified 2.55.0 product tree to main

Same product tree as preview 7bdd1b2 / 2.55.0-preview.20260914, which published successfully with its registry smoke green. Only package.json version differs.

* fix(release): carry Windows checksum record support to main (#5552)

* fix(release): publish the GitHub release only after its verified assets attach (#5555) (#5558)

GitHub freezes a release when it is published, so the attach step's upload
came back HTTP 422 "Cannot upload assets to an immutable release". Every
release from v2.55.0 to v2.60.0 therefore shipped with zero assets and the
desktop updater had nothing to download.

Create the release as a draft and flip it to published in attach-release,
after the verified bundle is uploaded. Release notes still come from the
validated notes file written at creation.

* chore(release): 2.74.0

* fix: demote developer to user for OrcaSAQ-2 leading-system template

The OrcaSAQ-2-Cyber-27B GGUF pins the same chat-template contract as
Qwen3.8-27B — a non-leading `system` raises and `developer` is
unsupported — so translated requests carrying a mid-conversation
developer reminder failed upstream with a 500 template error. Widen
the leading-system matcher to the OrcaSAQ family (org prefix optional,
quant tag optional) so the reminder keeps its slot as `user`.

* chore(release): 2.74.0

* fix(deps): bump proxy-addr, fast-uri, ip-address and source-map-js for new advisories

release.yml's dependency audit refused 2.79.0 on a critical advisory
published after the candidate was cut: proxy-addr <2.0.8 is vulnerable to
IP spoofing via IPv4-mapped IPv6 trust subnets (GHSA-jqcg-44mw-7w3h),
reached through @modelcontextprotocol/sdk > express. gui/ reports
source-map-js <1.2.2 (GHSA-68fv-2mgg-jv7q, vite > postcss).

bun audit fix, lockfiles only, every bump inside its declared range:
proxy-addr 2.0.7 -> 2.0.8, fast-uri 3.1.7 -> 3.1.8, ip-address 10.4.0 ->
10.7.1, and in gui/ source-map-js 1.2.1 -> 1.2.2. Both audits now report
no vulnerabilities at --audit-level=high.

* fix(deps): bump @modelcontextprotocol/sdk to 1.31.0 for GHSA-6qxp-vccf-f47h

* fix(deps): clear high-severity audit findings blocking the 2.90.0 release (#7481)

Raise @modelcontextprotocol/sdk to ^1.32.1 (GHSA-22jm-h49p-29qw, GHSA-46jr-4wx8-v453)
and lock gui vite at 8.2.4 (GHSA-587h-7wmj-h5pm). release.yml runs bun run audit:high
before publishing, and both advisories made it fail.

* fix(deps): pin zod 4.6.6 and body-parser 2.4.0 for 2.92.0 (#7643)

GHSA-mrhx-c7xc-m3w5 and GHSA-27r3-jxmh-p828 blocked the 2.92.0 publish.
Leave the package version at 2.92.0 so Release can republish that version.
