Root 'bun x tsc --noEmit' never parses gui/ (no project references), and the CI gates 'GUI build' step never runs on fork pull requests, so a gui compile error could reach ready-for-review unnoticed (lidge-jun#6471). prepush already gates gui lint and React Doctor with the same if-changed shape; add the gui typecheck to that chain via scripts/typecheck-gui-if-changed.ts, which runs 'tsc -b' in gui/ through the same bun that launched the gate and fails the push on any compile error - no soft-skip path. No gui/ source file changes: the gate invokes the gui compiler directly, so the diff stays out of the GUI-screenshot quality gate. Also pin the existing CI GUI build step with a focused test and register tests/ci-workflows/ci-gui-typecheck-gate.test.ts in the test layout.

- Line 48: Update the `diff.status` failure handling so a failed Git diff is not
treated as a successful empty diff; propagate the error or ensure it triggers
the GUI typecheck or fails the gate, while preserving the no-changes path for a
successful empty diff.
- Line 44: Update the git diff invocation that assigns `diff` to request
NUL-delimited pathnames, and parse its output by splitting on NUL rather than
newlines so `guiPathsChanged` recognizes paths containing unusual characters.
- Line 64: Update the range selection using hasRef in the typecheck script to
compare HEAD against the push destination refs supplied by the pre-push hook,
rather than the upstream branch from @{u}. If the destination refs are
unavailable, run the GUI typecheck instead of skipping it based on the upstream
comparison.

…ed, run when git fails
Review follow-ups for the push-time GUI typecheck gate:
- Base: the merge base with upstream/dev, origin/dev or dev (the order `test:changed` uses), not
`@{u}` with an origin/main fallback. `prepush` is a package script, not a git hook, so it never
sees the push destination. A tracking branch can already hold a GUI change the destination
lacks, and this repository has no main integration branch. Everything a branch adds over dev
covers any push range.
- `git diff --name-only -z`, split on NUL. A quoted non-ASCII name such as `gui/src/über.tsx`
no longer slips past the `gui/` prefix check.
- A diff git cannot compute (no merge base, for example) runs the check. It no longer reads as
"no gui/ changes".
The new tests build a real git repository holding a copy of the script, one per case. Each of the
four fails against the previous script.
# Conflicts: # tests/fixtures/test-layout-expected.json
Wiring the gate into prepush changes the root package.json, a surface that needs a maintainer sponsor. This branch now carries only the if-changed script and its behaviour tests, which need none; the two-line prepush wiring and its assertions move to a separate pull request.

Scoped correctness review at d099e82, not approval. Inspected the complete four-file diff: this PR now contains the standalone script, focused tests and both layout registrations; package.json/prepush wiring is in #6592, not this head. The old package.json sponsorship request above describes the pre-split version. Independent Linux/Bun1.4.0: ubuntu, exact-head worktree, fresh private homes, single cgroup CPU50%, MemoryHigh384M/MemoryMax512M, swap0, Tasks32, IOWeight20, nice10, RuntimeMax60/stop5s; live caps verified, peak25.0MiB, unit ended, protected actual-home snapshots unchanged. No aggregate prepush, dependency download, scan or workflow authorization. Hosted CI37216154175 and React Doctor37216154257 are action_required. Required CI and any applicable tooling-boundary review remain separate; no sponsorship/approval/merge granted. |
…#6592) (#6637) Root `bun run typecheck` never parses gui/ (no project references), and fork pull requests do not run the CI "GUI build" step, so a gui compile error could reach review unseen (#6471). prepush now runs scripts/typecheck-gui-if-changed.ts right after the root typecheck: it runs `tsc -b` in gui/ with the launching bun when the branch's diff against upstream/dev, origin/dev or dev touches gui/, and runs it anyway when no base resolves or the diff fails. Carried from #6485 and #6592 by @lcxhh521 as one maintainer change. Review follow-ups: the diff disables rename detection so a file moved out of gui/ still triggers the check, and the tests use a Bun compiler stub with a distinctive exit code plus a missing-executable case instead of `false`, which native Windows does not provide. Summary
Fixes the validation gap behind #6471: a gui compile error reached
ready-for-review because nothing on the local push path typechecks
gui/.Root
bun x tsc --noEmitnever parsesgui/(no project references), and theCI gates
GUI buildstep never runs on fork pull requests, soTS2304ingui/src/pages/Usage.tsxshipped silently on #6471.prepushalready gatesgui lint and React Doctor with an if-changed script; this PR adds the matching
gui typecheck script. Wiring it into
prepushchanges the rootpackage.json,a sponsored surface, so that two-line change is split out to #6592; this PR now
needs no sponsor.
scripts/typecheck-gui-if-changed.ts— decides whether the branch touchesgui/and, if so, runstsc -binsidegui/throughprocess.execPath(the same bun that launched the gate, not PATH). A compile error fails the
push; there is no soft-skip path.
upstream/dev, thenorigin/dev, thendev(the order
test:changeduses).prepushis a package script, not a githook, so it never sees the push destination; everything a branch adds over
dev covers any push range, including a GUI commit already on a tracking
branch.
git diff --name-only -z, so a quoted non-ASCII namestill matches
gui/.of reading as "no gui/ changes".
package.jsonis no longer touched here: theprepushwiring and itsassertions moved to ci: run the gui typecheck gate in prepush #6592 (stacked on this PR).
tests/ci-workflows/ci-gui-typecheck-gate.test.ts— pins the gate script'srun/skip/fail behavior (dry-run probes plus a
falsecompiler proving exit propagation). Four cases run against a realfixture git repository holding a copy of the script: a non-gui branch skips
and a gui commit runs; a non-ASCII gui path runs; a gui change already on
the tracking branch runs; an uncomputable diff runs. It also keeps the CI
GUI buildstep under the gui path filter. No file under
gui/is modified: the gate invokes the gui compiler directly,so this diff stays out of the GUI-screenshot quality gate, and the change is
invisible to gui users — it only tightens contributor-facing push validation.
