feat(compatibility): separate custom-tool grammar evidence from representation - #7282
Conversation
…sentation Record custom-tool representation and grammar as separate compatibility claims, and add a second exact subject where grammar is lost. - canonical Codex forward (gpt-5.6-sol): new request.custom_tools.grammar passthrough claim backed by a format assertion with a real Lark definition; manifest 1.4.0 - OpenGateway key auth (z-ai/glm-5.3-flash-ultrafast on the Responses wire, supportsResponsesCustomTools=false): custom tools translated to a string-input function, grammar degraded, custom_tool_call and custom_tool_call_output history translated - manifest test runs each fixture against the production adapter for its own subject, pins every subject's route, and adds a catalog evidence gate: cited assertion ids must exist in the owning fixture, and a passthrough claim may only cite equals assertions whose expected value is the caller's own input, so grammar loss cannot be labeled lossless No runtime behavior change; manifests stay passive. A passthrough claim could cite any preserved caller value, so a grammar claim backed by an equals assertion on /body/model passed the gate while the grammar was dropped. Each passthrough-claimable feature now names the selectors that can prove it, grammar evidence must carry a non-empty definition, and unbound features cannot be claimed as passthrough. Refs #2358

Summary
The compatibility manifest could only say that a route keeps a custom tool; it could not say whether the tool's grammar survives. On the canonical Codex forward route both survive, but on a routed Responses destination that rejects native custom tools, OpenCodex lowers the tool to a string-input function and the grammar is dropped. This PR records that difference as evidence, per the implementation path in the #2358 maintainer comment.
openai/ gpt-5.6-sol): newrequest.custom_tools.grammarpassthrough claim, backed by an assertion on the fullformatincluding a real Larkdefinition. Manifest version 1.4.0.z-ai/glm-5.3-flash-ultrafaston the Responses wire (supportsResponsesCustomTools: false). Custom tools aretranslated(stringinputfunction), grammar isdegraded(format removed), andcustom_tool_call/custom_tool_call_outputhistory istranslatedtofunction_call/function_call_output. The fixture sends the same grammar as the forward fixture, so the route is the only difference.tests/codex-integration/compatibility-manifest.test.ts: each fixture runs against the production adapter for its own manifest subject; every subject's route is pinned (registry base URL, auth kind, per-model wire default); every cited assertion id must exist in the owning fixture; and apassthroughclaim may only citeequalsassertions, on a selector bound to that feature, whose expected value is the caller's own input at the same place (grammar evidence must include a non-empty definition). Grammar loss therefore cannot be labeled lossless. No runtime behavior changes. Manifests remain passive data and the import-graph guard still shows the request/startup path does not load them.
