Review comments at @src/messaging/remote-files.ts:
- Line 120: Wrap the post-rename checkMacAcl(path) call in the renameSync flow
so probe failures are reported as remote_storage_unknown with recovery guidance,
while leaving syncRemoteDirectory unreachable on failure. Add a regression test
that makes only the post-rename ACL probe fail and verifies the destination was
replaced and the unknown-publication outcome is reported.

Reviewed the complete three-file diff at d0b519a8253bd02f9c33451efac8e23c4caa30e0. Moving the temporary ACL check inside the descriptor's try/finally addresses the cleanup boundary, and the subprocess regressions meaningfully check a real closed descriptor (EBADF), removal and no write/sync/rename on that refusal path. Those tests simulate Darwin; they do not execute macOS ACL behavior.
Before treating the ACL protection as platform-validated, please provide an exact-head native macOS run of tests/codex-integration/messaging-remote-store.test.ts, including its chmod +a / -N case and ordinary enable/read/atomic-publication controls. The PR description correctly says that path and the native CI legs were not run; four green Ubuntu shards cannot fill that gap. An ordinary contributor-owned hosted macOS dispatch is suitable; this does not request a scanner or a live messaging/account operation.
No whole-branch approval or native-macOS guarantee from this review. Keep the unverified platform requirement explicit until that evidence is available.

Approved the full four-file patch at 11d7ca30a59f8d9d476202f5e4dd200c77a0a9c4 against dev. Manual scoped review covers the macOS extended-ACL refusal, bounded /bin/ls -lde probe, private ownership/mode/no-follow checks, descriptor cleanup, and the distinction between an unpublished-file refusal and an already-renamed state whose privacy/durability is unknown. The latter preserves visible state for explicit recovery rather than retrying or rolling back. The contract and CLI documentation match those outcomes. This is a manual patch review, not a security-scan result.
Independent Bun 1.4.3 / Linux bun test ./tests/codex-integration/messaging-remote-store.test.ts: 16 passed / 1 native-macOS skip / 0 failed, 80 assertions, with isolated homes and hard cgroup limits. The initial local run correctly rejected my group-writable scratch ancestor; re-running beneath private owned directories under root-owned sticky /tmp passed without changing source, shared directory permissions, resource limits or assertions. The original failure receipt is retained.
I also inspected the actual author-hosted macOS job: it verifies Darwin, Bun 1.4.3 and exact source SHA 11d7ca30..., then reports 17 passed / 0 failed / 102 assertions, including real directory/file ACL add/remove controls. This is externally hosted native evidence, not a native run I performed locally. Current-head repository CI succeeded, including the four Ubuntu shards, gates and docs build; no unresolved review threads remained at this check. The full local suite was not repeated on this shared host under the documented resource exception. No live messaging state, service or production permissions were changed, and this approval is not a merge/release claim.

Summary
Messaging state on macOS can have private mode bits while an extended ACL still grants access. Reject that state during directory/file inspection and before atomic publication, preserving the existing owner and symlink checks.
Close the temporary file descriptor and remove unpublished state when ACL inspection refuses, errors or times out, reporting
unsafe_remote_storagewithout changing the old destination. If destination ACL inspection fails after rename, reportremote_storage_unknown: replacement has already happened, permissions and crash durability need inspection, and the operation must not be automatically retried or rolled back.Validation

It exercises actualchmod +a/-Nfor directories and files, unchanged mode bits, the typed refusal and successful read before/after ACL removal, plus enable/read/atomic-publication controls.LocalMessagingError/unsafe_remote_storagecontract and stronger positive controls; runtime code was unchanged by that test correction. The subsequent pre-publication error-classification fix is included in both current-head native validation and full CI.Summary by CodeRabbit
