Additional surface geometry quantities

I'd like to add custom managed surface geometry quantities - particularly the center (centroid) and bounding box for compatibility with a BVH library (https://github.com/madmann91/bvh)

Is there a way to add a hook for custom managed quantities?

From what I understand, currently, mutations such as subdivision will create new elements with empty/default values for MeshData objects.

Being able to store custom data (e.g. texture coordinates or colors) within elements seems to be a crucial missing feature. Manually "fixing up" custom data is going to be either highly error-prone or outright impossible in certain cases.

Yeah exactly, this is acknowledged in the documentation:

But what is missing is the capability to add custom managed quantities. Containers exist (https://geometry-central.net/surface/surface_mesh/containers/)

You have to do exactly what the docs discourage for custom quantities...
