NO-JIRA: For tls-scanner roll trust-manager pods when the ServiceAccount is recreated - #517
Conversation
A deleted ServiceAccount revokes the projected token already mounted in the trust-manager pod. Container restarts keep that volume, so the pod CrashLoopBackOffs after the account is created again and tls-scanner deploy-operand times out waiting for Available. Stamp the ServiceAccount UID on the pod template so a new account rolls the Deployment, recreate pods in the deploy script once the account exists, and delete the Deployment before the ServiceAccount in e2e cleanup.

createOrApplyDeploymentadds the ServiceAccount UID annotation to the desired Deployment before comparison. The label, image, replicas, and arguments fixtures build existing Deployments without that annotation. Their assertions check onlyPatchCallCount, so each case can pass from UID drift alone, even if its named drift check regresses. AddwithServiceAccountUID(dep, testServiceAccountUID)to each fixture.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Deployment Available stays true until the controller notices a pod delete, and background deletion removes the Deployment before its pods are gone. Wait for the replacement pod to be Ready in the deploy script, and wait until leftover ReplicaSets and pods are gone before e2e cleanup deletes the ServiceAccount.

Please also check below suggestions
Existing Deployments in the reconciliation tests omitted the UID annotation that createOrApplyDeployment adds before comparison, so a patch could come from that mismatch alone.

A TLS profile patch rolls kube-apiserver, and the next spec aborted on the first 504 before it could check that trust-manager kept the Modern TLS args. Retry those polls so the spec still requires Ready and matching flags.

The poll callbacks ignored the context from PollUntilContextTimeout, so a hung API request could outlive the wait. Pass that context into the operator, deployment-arg, and TLS cipher GETs.

Both of my earlier comments are addressed: the deploy script now waits for the replacement pod (create + Ready) instead of the Deployment's Available condition, and the e2e cleanup drains the Deployment, ReplicaSets, and pods before the ServiceAccount is deleted.
The follow-up commits look right too — the SA UID stamp inside getDeploymentObject keeps the cluster read on the reconcile path (the SA is ensured before the Deployment, and the pod-template annotation participates in deploymentModified, so a recreated account rolls the pod), and the poll context/504-retry changes are a good cleanup.
CI is green on the latest commit, including tls-scanner.

The Matches() Any-mode fix landed in master via openshift#466 and the verifyOperatorStatusConditionWithTimeout helper via openshift#517, so this branch no longer carries them. What remains: a unit test locking in that Any mode succeeds when a non-matching condition precedes a matching one in the iteration order, and a Makefile fix to double-quote E2E_GINKGO_LABEL_FILTER so filters containing single quotes are passed through correctly.

Summary
tls-scannercan fail indeploy-operandafter the TLS profile e2e deletes the trust-manager ServiceAccount and leaves the Deployment in place. The running pod keeps the projected token it mounted at startup. That token is revoked with the account, and container restarts reuse the same volume, so the pod stays inCrashLoopBackOffwiththe server has asked for the client to provide credentials. Recreating the ServiceAccount does not change the Deployment spec, so the operator does not roll the pod, andoc waitfor Available times out. This is timing-dependent. A pod that is still Ready can pass the wait; a pod that restarted after the account was deleted will not.
What changed
operator.openshift.io/trust-manager-service-account-uid). A recreated account has a new UID, so the Deployment rolls and the new pod mounts a token for that account.hack/deploy-trust-manager.shdeletes existing trust-manager pods after the TrustManager CR is Ready, then waits for Available. Reconcile has already applied the current ServiceAccount, so the replacement pod is not left on a revoked token. This covers the scanner job even when the previous pod was already crashlooping.Test plan
