Hello GitHub Support,

My GitHub Copilot Pro subscription is active on my account, but GitHub Copilot Chat in VS Code suddenly stopped working.

GitHub username: guoshiji6-ui

Issue details:

My Copilot Pro subscription shows as active in GitHub settings.
I am using the official VS Code extensions:
GitHub Copilot
GitHub Copilot Chat
The issue started suddenly. It was working before, then stopped.

Errors I have seen:

"token expired or invalid: 403"
"Language model unavailable"

What I have already tried:

Signed out and signed back into GitHub and Copilot in VS Code
Reloaded the VS Code window
Reinstalled the Copilot extensions
Confirmed that my Copilot Pro subscription is active on GitHub

Could you please check whether there is an account-side activation, authentication, or service issue affecting Copilot Chat for my account?

I can also provide screenshots if needed.

The "token expired or invalid: 403" error usually points to a stale auth token that didn't fully clear when you signed out.

A few things to try:

• In VS Code, open the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "Sign out of GitHub" from both the GitHub Copilot and GitHub Pull Requests extensions, then sign back in fresh.
• Open your OS credential manager (Windows Credential Manager / macOS Keychain) and delete any saved GitHub tokens there, then re-authenticate in VS Code.
• Run gh auth logout then gh auth login in your terminal if you have the GitHub CLI installed, as stale CLI tokens can interfere.
• Make sure the Copilot extensions are not being blocked by a firewall or proxy — Copilot Chat specifically needs access to copilot-proxy.githubusercontent.com.

If none of that works, it's worth checking https://www.githubstatus.com/ to rule out a service incident, and then contacting GitHub Support directly at https://support.github.com/ with your username so they can inspect the account-side token state.

Is it possible to forcefully end the trial and pay for a subscription? Because my copilot says the funds will only be debited on April 24th

same here, can't seem to be able to revert to Copilot Free, nor to start paid plan.

My guess is you can either wait for trial to expire on its own or delete your account and start a new one.

The instructions in this link helped. I started a paid plan and within a few minutes the chat was unblocked.

It started working immediately after I upgraded to a paid subscription from trial. So, it didn't work as they stopped all trial usage.

My issue is that I tried to do that but it glitched out because now it thinks I'm still on the trial version even though I am on the Pro version, I'm so close to just using Claude Code.

But when they paused the free trial, some people with Pro are being blocked and are not on a trial. I'm 23% of my monthly allocations and I'm getting an error saying that trials have been temporarily paused. It's blocking paying customers.

I have upgraded my Copilot Pro account, but it still doesn't work properly. I have tried logging in again, but it didn't work. Absolutely ridiculous
