iOS: Add “Copy raw text” action for linked files #11781

Closed

Description

@REALERvolker1

Feature request

On iOS, linked files currently expose actions like Preview, Source, and Copy path. It would be very useful to also have a simple Copy raw text action.

The key behavior is that this should copy the file's actual source contents, not the rendered preview text.

For example, for a Markdown file, copying raw text should preserve Markdown syntax such as:

# Heading

- item
- **bold**
- `code`

[link](https://example.com)

rather than copying only the visually rendered text.

This would make it much easier to move file contents from T3 Code on iOS into another app, message, prompt, note, etc. without opening Source and manually selecting everything.

Suggested UX

Add a Copy raw text item to the linked-file context/menu alongside Preview, Source, and Copy path.

For plain-text/source files, it should copy the exact file contents to the clipboard. For Markdown specifically, that means preserving all Markdown formatting characters.

Thanks for the clear write-up — this is a valid iOS QoL request.

What you asked for: a Copy raw text item on the linked-file menu next to Preview, Source, and Copy path, copying the file’s source (including Markdown syntax) rather than the rendered preview.

Current main: that file-screen menu already has Copy contents (or Copy preview when the read is truncated). It copies the raw readFile body, not the rendered Markdown preview, and Markdown files still load source while Preview is selected. That shipped in #11442 (merged 2026-09-13), so an older iOS build would still match the menu you described.

Still missing: the chat file-chip long-press from #9258 only offers copy path(s), open, and save/share. It does not copy file text. #11297 / #11252 are about copying assistant responses as Markdown, not linked-file source.

    Please confirm:

    1. On a build that includes feat(composer): fold large pastes into text attachments #11442, does Copy contents on the file-screen ⋯ menu cover this?
    2. Or do you want the same raw-text copy on the file chip without opening the file viewer?

If (1) is enough we can close this; if (2), the follow-up is fileChipMenu.ts + ThreadFeed.tsx with a readFile + clipboard action.

I can't switch builds on ios because I don't have a mac. Also what I am asking for is a drop-down menu option.

Also opening Source doesn't actually let me select anything either
