[Bug]: Full citation comments cannot be read after sending #15540

Description

@letrandat

Summary

A sent citation only shows a shortened preview of its comment. Clicking the citation opens the original assistant response, so there is no way to read the complete comment from the sent message.

Please confirm whether this is a bug or an intended limitation. If it is intended, this is a request to make the full saved comment readable when clicking a sent citation.

Area

apps/web; the same component is used by desktop.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Select text in an assistant response and choose Cite.

  2. Add a comment longer than the citation chip can display. For example:

Please compare this explanation with the earlier example, explain where their assumptions differ, and describe which approach is appropriate for the case we discussed.

  3. Send the message.

  4. Click the citation chip in the sent message.

Expected behavior

Clicking a sent citation provides a way to read the full saved comment, including long or multiline comments. Navigation to the original assistant response remains available, for example through a View source action inside a read-only quote/comment popup.

Actual behavior

  • The chip shows only the beginning of the comment.
  • Clicking it navigates to the quoted assistant response.
  • Hovering shows View source, rather than the full comment.
  • Sent citations have no control to open the complete comment.
  • A message's Show full message control does not expand the comment inside the citation chip.

This report concerns reading a saved comment after sending, rather than losing an unsaved comment in the composer.

Impact

The sender cannot review the complete comment from the conversation without recalling the sent prompt into the composer.

Supporting source

The current implementation uses the first 64 characters of the comment as the label and limits its display width. The sent-message renderer uses the citation chip without the comment editor.

Workaround

Recall the sent prompt with ArrowUp in an empty composer, then open the citation's pencil button to read the comment.

Verification

The behavior was reported with short and long comment examples and screenshots, and the relevant code was inspected. The installed app version was not supplied. No automated browser reproduction was performed.

Before submitting

  • Searched existing issues; no issue for this exact read-back problem was found. The matching Ideas discussion is linked above.
  • Included reproduction steps, expected behavior, actual behavior, and supporting source.
