ApprovabilityVerdict: Not approved Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This PR changes the terminal’s effective default behavior from immediate open/close to a 200 ms animation and alters drawer lifecycle and control placement across layouts. It also has an unresolved layout concern with limited integrated browser verification for compact states. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

Independent automated first-pass review (Amp/Astra, read-only): 3 findings, verified against source. 2 real, fixed in dcf8eb8a7c: (1) with the inline right panel maximized the new toggle is clipped inside the collapsed w-0 chat column yet stays keyboard-focusable — wrapper now inert while collapsed; (2) retained closed drawers no longer remount, so the documented "close and reopen the terminal to retry" recovery for failed libghostty init stopped working — failed setups now retry on next visibility. Dismissed 1: the 200 ms minimum overriding a 0 ms setting is intentional and documented in the settings description this PR updates. Focused web tests (183) and targeted lint pass; lint shows no new warnings. |

Friendly review nudge @juliusmarminge @maria-rcks — this is mergeable and hasn't had a maintainer pass yet. Independent bot/agent reviews have run with findings triaged in-commit (see receipts in earlier comments). Full queue context and status: #10688. |

CodeRabbit flagged that suppressing the chat-column terminal tab on rightPanelPresent (rather than rightPanelOpen) leaves neither toggle visible while the compact sheet's close animation plays: the sheet's own toggle already unmounts at open=false, but the tab stayed hidden until the sheet's exit transition finished. Match the same rightPanelOpen gate the sheet's toggle already uses. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

Note This comment is posted by Julius' dot This relocates the terminal control and makes the drawer animate for at least 200 ms even when the panel setting is 0 ms. The PR explicitly calls that default change a maintainer decision, but no maintainer approval is recorded here or in the linked discussion. The prior approval rule covers intentional product behavior changes. Please discuss the control placement and animation default in Ideas, obtain scope approval, and request reconsideration. The reported difficulty noticing the existing terminal toggle remains useful feedback. |

Following up on the closure: I opened an Ideas discussion with the narrowed proposal and its evidence, #15942. What changed from this PR:

The terminal toggle sat in the top-right titlebar, and the terminal appeared instantly at the bottom of the window, at the far side of the screen from the click. It was hard to see what the click had done.

usePanelAnimationSettings(200)), so it visibly rises from the bottom. Longer configured panel durations still apply. Reduced motion and navigation restoration stay immediate. The Motion setting description says this. Maintainer call: with the product default of 0 ms, this means the drawer now animates by default.inert) so the close transition can finish and reopening reuses the viewport. Navigating away releases it (reconcileMountedTerminalThreadIds). A failed libghostty setup is retried when the drawer next becomes visible, so "close and reopen the terminal to retry" still works. A stale, cancelled setup cannot mark the current one as failed.drawersize and variant on the sharedToggleprimitive. Header instances keep the ghost styling.Rebased onto current
