Conversation
ApprovabilityVerdict: Approved at Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a focused rich-text composer bug fix that removes unintended underscore-based italicization while preserving asterisk-based formatting and plain-mode behavior. 17-71: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winBind the regression test to the production extension configuration.
composer-italic-shortcuts.test.tscreates a separateEditorand copies the relevant configuration. It does not exercise the extension list selected byComposerPromptEditorTiptap. The test can remain green if production re-enables StarterKit italic or stops registeringComposerItalicExtension, while the composer can again italicize typed underscores. Extract the shared extension configuration or add a production-bound test.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Taking over this one as maintainer for batch composer-chat-07. I will preserve your commits and the scoped asterisk-only italic behavior, bring it onto current main, and replace the duplicated test setup with focused production-bound coverage. |
Typing a second underscore in the rich-text composer can remove literal underscores and italicize identifiers, including text reaching back into an earlier code span. Use Tiptap’s existing asterisk-only italic input and paste rules, with the replacement extension registered only in rich mode. Plain mode and the composer’s separate paste handling retain their behavior.
Preserves ScottN-PV’s implementation and history for #19169. Current main is merged without rewriting contributor commits. The separate implementation pass independently selected the same minimal upstream-extension solution.

Both independent full-diff reviews found no code blockers in the integrated head.
Limits: macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, and Electron desktop were not exercised. Desktop shares the web composer; mobile uses a separate native composer and is outside this fix. An interrupted draft ending at
clean _build and node_can still parse as Markdown italics when rebuilt; the completed identifier sequence is verified. Stock double-underscore bold shortcuts are also outside this italic fix. Clipboard paste was not verified live, and this does not claim all pasted Markdown underscores stay literal. The headless host lacked fallback fonts, so the same repository font was loaded for both captures without changing product code. Proof uses the actual base production files and restored current head, matching data, viewport, and state.Implemented through T3 Code with Codex gpt-6-astra (tests) and gpt-6.1-sol (implementation); independent reviews by Claude claude-opus-5-5 and Codex gpt-6-sol.
