fix(server): allow slow outbound connections - #19638

…address Node's Happy Eyeballs abandons each address after autoSelectFamilyAttemptTimeout (250 ms on Node 24) instead of racing it. On a dual-stack host with unroutable IPv6 and a ~400 ms IPv4 connect, every attempt is dropped and fetch fails with AggregateError long before any request timeout, so the ACP Registry index never loads on first run. The t3 CLI now raises its own per-address allowance to 1 s at startup with net.setDefaultAutoSelectFamilyAttemptTimeout. NODE_OPTIONS is untouched, so provider CLIs and terminals keep Node's default, and an explicit --network-family-autoselection-attempt-timeout still wins. Fixes pingdotgg#15039 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Node config files (--config-file and its --experimental-config-file and --experimental-default-config-file aliases) apply network-family-autoselection-attempt-timeout without it appearing in execArgv or NODE_OPTIONS, so the startup policy overwrote a configured 300 ms with 1 s. Starting Node with a config file now leaves Node's default alone. Node exposes no public way to tell which source set the default, so this also applies when the file sets only unrelated options. ApprovabilityVerdict: Not approved Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — Server startup now changes the default per-address outbound connection allowance for production sockets. The PR also adds a file-level suppression for a static-analysis diagnostic in its tests, making the change unsuitable for automatic approval. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. … and 22.17 The tests import outboundConnections.ts in a fresh Node process. Node 22.16 and 22.17 refuse .ts imports without --experimental-strip-types, so every case exited with ERR_UNKNOWN_FILE_EXTENSION before reaching its assertions. Enable type stripping in that child and disable its ExperimentalWarning once there, next to the config-file warning the same flag already covered. Node 22.16 garbles the path in `--experimental-config-file=<path>` and exits before running any code, so the "config file given a path" case failed there regardless of our policy. Pass the path as a separate argument on 22.16 only; newer Node keeps exercising the `=` form. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Note Grok responding on behalf of Julius. Thanks for working on this, @StiensWout. #15054 just merged and fixes #15039 the same way: |
Problem
Node abandons nonfinal connection attempts after 250 ms on the affected runtime. When IPv6 is unreachable and a working IPv4 connection takes longer, ACP Registry fetching fails before its 30-second request timeout matters.
Change
Give server outbound connections a 1-second per-address allowance at CLI startup. Keep explicit Node timeout flags and any Node configuration-file startup settings, and preserve larger defaults. The change stays inside the server process; provider and terminal child processes retain their existing settings.
Scope and approval
Fixes #15039, following Julius's triaged direction to change the server default rather than
NODE_OPTIONS. All server hosting paths use the same CLI entry. No retries, proxy changes or HTTP request-timeout changes are introduced.Verification
Five real Node-process tests pass on Node 22.16.0, 22.17.0 and 24.19.0 for the default allowance, command-line and environment overrides, explicit config files and default config files, including spawned-child behavior. The original default test fails before the change; both config-file tests failed before the override correction. Primary validation and independent review also probed the actual CLI entry. The default server uses 1,000 ms while its spawned child keeps 250 ms; a config-file override of 300 ms remains 300 ms and the child keeps 250 ms. Scoped server typecheck, targeted lint and formatting passed.
Loopback fetch diagnostics confirm that the increased allowance holds a stalled address for about one second instead of 250 ms. An eventual successful slow connection on the reporter's macOS network was not reproduced. A blackholed nonfinal address can delay fallback by an additional 750 ms. Any explicit Node config file opts out of the change, including files that only set unrelated options. The dialog's generic transport-error message is unchanged.
