feat(server): persist outgoing links to peer environments - #21672
juliusmarminge wants to merge 4 commits into

ApprovabilityVerdict: Needs Human Approval Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This PR introduces persistent authenticated peer links, cross-environment MCP execution, new RPC/CLI surfaces, and production credential storage rather than a small isolated change. A pairing code remains exposed through process arguments, and the change also adds a lint-suppression directive, so the security and policy implications need human review. interpolating the raw input URL: use only safe parsed metadata such as

returns null. Ensure neither error exposes userinfo, query strings, or other raw
URL data.
- Around line 423-433: Update `unlink` so failures from `secrets.remove` are
logged and ignored after the link row is deleted, allowing the method to return
whether a row was deleted rather than failing.

that handle AuthMcpRegistrationError, AuthMcpApprovalError, AuthMcpTokenError,

such as reason and peer origin, never peer-controlled text. Preserve typed peer
errors as cause where available without exposing cause.message.

PeerLinkErrormessages from peer-supplied error text. The pairing failure messages include the peer's
error.messageand the redirect'serror_description. The peer controls this text, and its length has no limit. The text then reaches the RPC response and the CLI output. The service guide forbids building a message from the underlying error's message. It requires a fixed message, or a message built from bounded attributes, with the exact value kept only incause.Use fixed messages and keep the peer's error as
cause. Thereasonfield already tells callers what happened. The same blocks use

Pair through existing MCP OAuth, store each credential under its own name, and expose link/list/get/unlink through the environment CLI and typed RPCs. Require the linked identity and mode-limit capability before reading a token. Decode structured MCP results first, refuse HTTP redirects, and release a new credential when persistence fails or the operation is cancelled. Preserve main's migration 064 and add PeerLinks as migration 065. Rebuilt from [#16655](#16655). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

Re-asking a question from #16655 (#16655 (comment)), since that PR is closed and the rule carried over unchanged.
Is the stricter rule for links deliberate? If there's a reason a link's credential needs more protection than the client's, we'd like to know it. If not, accepting Our case: two machines on the same LAN, plus a laptop that reaches home over a plain WireGuard tunnel (not Tailscale), all at fixed |

Code update: Fix PR #22447 now provides this layer's reviewed resolution directly against this original branch. The refreshed head is Reviewed peer-link integration, migration checks and remaining caveatWe integrated this layer with the resolved lower stack locally. The public PR branch has not been changed. Candidate: Integration changes
Against the resolved parent, the final change is 22 files (+2013/−1). The parent verified the real commit/parents, clean tracked tree and identical renamed migration body, and inspected all four test summaries below. Builder checks
These are focused Windows checks. No repository-wide suite was run, and the integrated upper stack has not yet received an independent audit verdict. Independently executed migration probeThe parent ran the actual merged migration code against isolated in-memory SQLite histories, without touching live or test-server databases:
That third result corrects the initial builder warning: such an old PR database is not started while silently lacking its peer table; it is rejected before migration, with its existing data retained. A compatibility upgrade path for those unreleased preview databases is not implemented. No reset or repair was attempted. Fresh/released-upstream histories passed the probe. Delivery and limitsA verified Git bundle is attached, and the support PR above now provides the code update directly. The author branch remains unchanged until that PR is merged. #21673 is integrated against this actual resolved parent as reviewed production merge The original two-PC runtime report and its additional Windows scenarios test #21673 head AI-assisted work: Opus 5.5 High integration builder and Codex coordination/migration verification through T3 Code. Full two-PC addendum and stack status on #21673. Attached code handoffThe actual reviewed conflict-resolution commits for all four layers, including this layer, are provided in pr21673-stack-integration.zip as four Git bundles with import instructions and audit/validation records. The separate Windows test addendum contains the 19 additional runtime scenarios at original #21673 head |
T3 servers cannot yet store a managed outgoing link to another environment for agent calls. Add shared services, CLI and protected RPCs to pair, list, get, relink and unlink peer environments; keep the bearer in the secret store.
Rebuild #16655 on current main and the two lower prerequisites. Migration 065 preserves the occupied 064 migration. Every call resolves the current peer identity and mode capability before reading its credential, tries a compatible alternate address, refuses redirects on discovery/OAuth/MCP, prefers structured MCP results, and cleans up its newly issued secret when saving fails. OAuth errors use bounded messages, SSE parsing selects the matching response event, and unlink remains retryable after a secret-removal failure while preserving a concurrent relink. Migration 64’s existing test is bounded to its migration. Outgoing agent use is wired by the next layer.
The original peer scope was 13 cases in three files; the reduced/strengthened scope became 15 with four reproduced defects before implementation. PeerLinks now has eight meaningful cases. Three independent review rounds per reviewer fixed replay ordering, alternate address selection and accepted-retry worktree validation; final prerequisite scope passed 180/180 in 12 files. Real two-process checks covered CLI/RPC lifecycle, restart persistence, mode narrowing, revocation/expiry and same-ID capability downgrade before any bearer use.
Accepted limits: concurrent relinks or crashes can leave unused credentials, while the committed row still names its own token. A resolve racing with relink may need retry. Relinking forgets the old local token but does not revoke its destination session. Per-call descriptor probes and outcome writes remain; identity is checked through the chosen transport, origin, ID and capability.
Evidence: sanitized headless proof. Before the latest review fixes, the integrated head passed 745 targeted tests in 27 files. The corrected head passed 192 focused tests in 11 files, with scoped server/contracts typechecks, changed-file lint/format and Knip. Opus independently reran 74 tests in four files including the MCP HTTP server. Both reviewers audited the complete corrected stack and found no source blocker. The latest complete CI runs passed on these heads, including web; earlier cancelled runs and their aggregate failure were superseded. Macroscope approval/correctness checks remain neutral and are not called green. The post-publication recovery finding was checked against startup terminalization and its two existing restart cases passed. Screenshots do not apply to this server MCP/CLI behavior.
Not verified: real two-host TLS or T3 Connect relay/tunnel; macOS, Windows, Electron, iOS, Android; real provider credentials or signed-webhook execution. The source two-owner mode-raise race is proven by focused tests and controlled mutations, not a live two-owner fixture. Published for maintainer review, with permission-policy approval and multi-machine/client validation still required. Unmerged.
