skill: package microsoft/skills curated subset into dockyard #497

Description

@JAORMX

Package a curated subset of agent skills from microsoft/skills into the Dockyard registry.

Source

Curation guidance

Do not package all 177 skills. Pick a high-value subset aligned with Dockyard themes. Candidates to consider:

  • .github/skills/skill-creator
  • .github/skills/mcp-builder
  • .github/skills/kql
  • .github/skills/entra-agent-id
  • .github/skills/copilot-sdk
  • Azure AI language SDK skills (e.g., azure-ai-agents-persistent-dotnet) — only if clearly reusable outside Azure
  • README-listed named skills: cloud-solution-architect, frontend-design-review, github-issue-creator, microsoft-docs

Acceptance criteria

  • Curation decision documented in the PR description
  • One spec.yaml per selected skill under skills/<name>/
  • spec.ref pinned to an audited upstream commit SHA
  • task validate-skill passes for each
  • task scan-skill findings triaged
  • Single PR grouping all Microsoft skills (branch skills/microsoft)

Related repos from Microsoft also worth considering in follow-up issues: microsoft/azure-skills (56 skills), microsoft/azure-devops-skills, microsoft/power-platform-skills, microsoft/Dataverse-skills.

Part of the vendor-by-vendor sweep following #466 (Trail of Bits).

Assessed against the live microsoft/skills inventory on 2026-10-08. A curated eight-skill subset is now in #1091:

    • microsoft-mcp-builder
    • microsoft-kql
    • microsoft-docs
    • applicationinsights-web-ts
    • microsoft-cloud-solution-architect
    • microsoft-copilot-sdk
    • microsoft-github-issue-creator
    • microsoft-skill-creator

All are standalone leaf directories under the repository root skills area, pinned to the same MIT-licensed upstream commit, and were locally validated and scanned.

Deep Wiki is intentionally deferred. azure-validate, azure-resource-visualizer, azure-compliance, and azure-reliability are structurally self-contained but need a separate workflow-level audit of Azure MCP versus CLI fallback behavior. Azure Cost remains MCP-first. The large Azure SDK matrix is not being ingested wholesale: its .github/skills entries are symlink aliases, so any future additions must use and assess their real plugin leaf paths.

This replaces the earlier narrower three-skill selection.

    Implemented in #1091.

Expanded #1091 after a live-inventory review: it now adds eight Microsoft skills, including Application Insights web instrumentation, Cloud Solution Architect, Copilot SDK, GitHub issue creation, and Microsoft skill creation. Deep Wiki and Azure-plugin families remain deliberately deferred with the review rationale in the PR.
