[IMPROVEMENT] Auto-Install UniGetUI-Updates of UniGetUI #5636
I have searched for my feature proposal and have not found a work-in-progress/duplicate/resolved/discarded issue.
This improvement refers to an existing feature. If you want to suggest a new feature, please use this template.
This improvement is not a bug. If you want to report a bug, please use this template.
Describe the improvement
unigetUI is literally perfect but there's one thing that i would like to become improved.
the update of unigetUI to v2026.3.3.0 is ready to be installed. so far, so good. but why doesn't unigetUI install it automatically on their own? it does perfectly auto-install all the apps listed in winget-pkgs, but why not itself?
thank you guys for fulfilling my wish. since 2026.3.3.0 i can use UniGetUI (unigetUI) on windows server 2022 too!
i got flabbergasted by all the updates popping up in unigetUI which used to be empty for quite a time.
now only 2 things are left with python not being able to get major updates installed only minor updates which is the fault of winget (although there could be a way to solve this through some code changes in unigetUI): sometimes unigetUI takes more than half of my screen and i have to resize it everytime, and the seond is the one click on tray-icon can minimize the window too. #4442
Describe how this improvement could help users
i don't have to access every PC with rustdesk for simply updating a minor-update of unigetUI, they do it on their own.
i would like to paste here all my unigetUI settings i did on all my client's PCs so that you see how perfectly a Windows-PC can be configured the way it can handly everything on their own.
compared to those times with windows xp i can assure now everyone that windows with the help of several programs is closely as good as linux working automatically and autonomically and i'm a big fan of it (less time-consuming work, i can focus on other projects).
Hi hueldoeu,
Thanks for the kind words! Glad UniGetUI is working well for you.
UniGetUI previously didn't install its own updates automatically. [PR #5645](#5645) adds this option under Settings → General → Install UniGetUI updates automatically while it is idle in the background.
When enabled, UniGetUI will update itself while idle in the system tray, then return to the tray afterward. This feature is planned for an upcoming release.
