The Helix test currently passes
gen_enable_dp=False, while the general attention-DP matrix uses the defaultgen_cp=1. The existing factory forwardsgen_enable_dptoMapping.enable_attention_dpandgen_cptocp_size, so it can exerciseenable_attention_dp=True, cp_size=2directly. The consensus change itself looks right — _dp_group_allgather reproduces the C++ mGroupDataComm split by dpRank, and the non-DP path is provably unchanged. Three things to settle around it.
The unwaived B300 case isn't covered by this fix. test_auto_dtype_with_helix[...pp1tp2cp2-overlap_off] is the enable_attention_dp=False parametrization, and the non-DP gen path is identical before/after: world_size > 1 matches the old predicate, len(all_ranks) == world_size matches the old sync_size, and the KV-size factor stays tp*cp. What changes for that case is the route swap — NIXL+PYTHON, which also resolves DeepSeek's use_kv_cache_manager_v2="auto" to V2. That may make it pass, but it's a different configuration, not a fix, and it's a full:B300 entry, so /bot run here won't exercise it. Please attach a manual B300 run of that case, or keep the waiver and unwaive separately.
Helix E2E moves entirely off the C++ transceiver. TestDeepSeekV3Lite::test_auto_dtype_with_helix, TestQwen3_8B::_run_helix_test, and the ctxtp2_gentp1cp2 yaml all flip to NIXL/PYTHON, leaving the C++ helix path with no E2E coverage in l0_dgx_b200 or the QA lists. Parametrize the runtime, or keep one CPP variant.
Tracking: [None] on a deadlock fix — please cite the NVBug/JIRA for the hang itself; 6410881 tracks a different parametrization and a different symptom.
One correction to the generated notes above: the new test_transceiver_adp_helix_consensus.py is in CI — it's cpu_only, and l0_cpu.yml collects unittest/disaggregated under -m cpu_only.

IIUC with V1 Helix and overlap scheduling, a retiring request can leave free KV blocks [0, 1] across its CP ranks. Only CP1 can allocate a dummy. This any() then makes both ranks defer their previous batch, although retiring that batch would release the missing KV. CP1 repeatedly allocates and rolls back its dummy; CP0 remains full even after other DP ranks become ready.
Shall we allow completed previous work to drain consistently across CP when the remaining scheduled work is only padding. Maybe add a DP2×CP2 regression that verifies progress on subsequent iterations.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Thanks for tracing this. The case needs CP peers with different free KV, which comes from KV cache manager V1 dealing helix blocks round-robin. V1 is being removed, and helix here runs on KVCacheManagerV2. V2 takes one page on every CP rank per ledger block and syncs the pool size across ranks, so the CP peers of a DP rank have the same free pages and pad their dummies together. A cancel or transfer timeout is still handled per CP rank today, so the peers can briefly differ. The follow-up PR that routes cancel/timeout through the CP consensus closes that, so I'd keep this PR as is.

Curious about this calculation.
paged_bytes excludes reused blocks, but this ratio counts all prompt blocks. Consider this example: V1 with CP2, an 80-token prompt, and 32 tokens per block. CP0 owns blocks 0 and 2; CP1 owns block 1. If CP0 reuses block 0, each rank transfers one block. At 100 bytes per transferred block, the actual total is 200 bytes.
The formula computes local_transferred_bytes × global_prompt_blocks / local_prompt_blocks:
- CP0 would report
100 × 3 / 2 = 150 bytes. - CP1 would report
100 × 3 / 1 = 300 bytes.
Both values estimate the whole request’s transfer size, but neither accounts correctly for unequal reuse across CP ranks.
Shall we account for the actual transferred blocks? It'd be good to have a partial-prefix-reuse test covering this case.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Right, the ratio misses reused blocks only with KV cache manager V1, which is being removed. KVCacheManagerV2 rejects block reuse under helix, so every CP rank receives all of its prompt blocks and the scaling is exact.

…ross helix CP ranks under attention-DP Under attention-DP the Python KV cache transceiver skipped the gen-side transfer-completion consensus entirely (pp_size == 1), on the assumption that every DP rank owns disjoint requests. With helix context parallelism the CP ranks of one DP group share the same requests, so a CP rank could start decoding a request whose KV blocks its partner rank had not received yet, and the helix all-to-all deadlocked (gen ranks stuck in cuda_event.synchronize(), killed by the hang detector). Mirror the C++ transceiver, which builds its attention-DP sync group from all PP x CP ranks of the same DP index: gather over the CP group (then PP when present) and require pp_size * cp_size agreements. Non-DP and DP-without-CP paths are unchanged. KVCacheManagerV2 rejected attention-DP + helix for exactly this reason; the rejection is lifted now that the transceiver reaches consensus. Verified on 8xB300 with DeepSeek-V3-Lite disaggregated serving (ctx tp4 -> gen tp2 cp2 helix, attention-DP on, Python transceiver / NIXL): V1 and V2 KV cache managers both hung before the change and pass GSM8K (64.14 / 63.38 / 64.33 with overlap on/off) after it; the non-DP tp2cp2 variant is unaffected (64.94). Drop the nvbugs/6410881 waiver for the B300 pp1tp2cp2 variant: the case passes on 8xB300 both on the C++ transceiver (GSM8K 64.48) and on the Python transceiver (64.94 overlap on, 64.33 overlap off) against a 64.74 reference. …ound-robin block split Helix deals prompt blocks round-robin over the CP ranks, so the ranks hold unequal shares: CP rank 0 always owns block 0, and a short prompt can leave a rank with no block at all. Scaling one rank's bytes by cp_size overstated kv_cache_size; a one-block prompt with CP=2 reported two blocks. - _kv_size_rank_factor_for now covers the TP scale only. - _request_kv_bytes scales this rank's per-block bytes by the global block count, ceil(total_input_len_cp / tpb), over its own ceil(prompt_len / tpb). It needs no collective, so the async and the blocking receive paths both use it. - A CP rank that owns no block reports 0. Responses come from CP rank 0, which always owns block 0. - The unit test covers 1/2/3-block prompts, the empty CP rank, the TP scale without attention-DP, and the non-helix case. …ranks before receiving In async-transfer mode receive_gen_init ends with the gen transfer status collective (over the DP group's CP ranks under attention-DP with pp=1, over the world otherwise) and enters it only on ranks that admitted gen-init requests. CP ranks can admit different requests even with the same KV capacity: KV cache manager V1 deals helix blocks round-robin from CP rank 0, and a client cancel or KV-transfer timeout retires a request rank-locally, so one CP rank can free its KV earlier than its peer. A rank that admitted alone then enters the collective without its peer and hangs. - DisaggTransferCoordinator.align_gen_admission_across_cp gathers the admitted ids over CP on every iteration when cp_size > 1, keeps the intersection in admission order, and reverts the V2 KV of the dropped requests, which retry on a later iteration. - The pp=1 executor loops call it between admit and receive_gen_init; the Python and C++ transceivers share this call site. Under attention-DP with pp=1 the gen status collective spans exactly these CP ranks. Without attention-DP it spans the world: the intersection removes the CP skew, but TP ranks are not intersected, so a rank-local cancel or timeout can still skew them, as it already can with cp == 1. The PP loop is unchanged; under attention-DP with tp > 1 its first-stage ranks still admit from their own schedule. - Correct the invariant comment in KvCacheTransceiverV2._init_sync_policy accordingly. - Tests: unit tests for the alignment; the loop transcript records the new collective and its ADP executor's dist declares cp_size=1; the benchmark-disagg stub passes admission through. Signed-off-by: Chuang Zhu <111838961+chuangz0@users.noreply.github.com>
…reject ADP+helix with pp>1 Under attention-DP with helix CP, a client cancel or a transfer timeout can retire a request on one CP rank before its peers. Each CP rank gathered the attention-DP load from its own TP group only, so the CP ranks of one DP group could see different loads and route the same new request to different DP ranks. That request never starts: align_gen_admission_across_cp keeps only the requests that every CP rank of the DP group admitted. - ADPRouter.gather_all_rank_states first takes this DP rank's maximum active-request and active-token counts across the helix CP group, then gathers over TP. Every CP rank then pops and routes the same requests, and no CP rank goes over max_num_active_requests. - Only the pp=1 executor loops call align_gen_admission_across_cp, so attention-DP with helix CP and pp_size > 1 is rejected: by the Python KV cache transceiver for either KV cache manager, and again by KVCacheManagerV2. Signed-off-by: Chuang Zhu <111838961+chuangz0@users.noreply.github.com>
KV-cache-aware attention-DP routing scores DP ranks by prefix matches that each helix CP rank probes in its own slice of the KV cache, so the CP ranks of a DP group could route one request to different DP ranks even though they now gather the same loads. When attention_dp_config.enable_kv_cache_aware_routing is set and block reuse is on, ADPRouter.create now builds the default load-based router under helix CP and logs a warning; conversation-affinity routing still takes precedence. Only KV cache manager V1 reaches this; V2 rejects block reuse under helix CP. Comments and docstrings around the attention-DP + helix + PP rejection now say which loop leaves admission unaligned, that the gen consensus group under attention-DP is the CP ranks or the PP ranks but never both, and that the KvCacheTransceiverV2 and KVCacheManagerV2 checks must be lifted together. Signed-off-by: Chuang Zhu <111838961+chuangz0@users.noreply.github.com>
…V size metric - With overlap off (TRTLLM_DISABLE_KV_CACHE_TRANSFER_OVERLAP=1, as gen_only benchmarks set on the GEN worker), a KV receive that failed on one helix CP rank left its peer decoding the request alone. After the blocking receives, the CP ranks now gather their failed ids and every CP rank fails them. The gather is skipped in the PP loop under attention DP with tp_size > 1, where each first-stage rank schedules on its own and the CP ranks can hold different requests. KvCacheTransceiverV2 and KVCacheManagerV2 reject that layout under helix. - The request KV size metric scaled STATE (recurrent) bytes by the paged block ratio and undercounted hybrid models such as Kimi K3 under helix. STATE bytes now scale by the TP and CP ranks that hold the request, each of which receives one STATE slot of the same size. Each receive walks the chunk once for both the expected write total and the metric. - The CP admission and failure gathers now pass small_payload=True: each carries at most one iteration's gen-init request ids. Signed-off-by: Chuang Zhu <111838961+chuangz0@users.noreply.github.com>
…queue over TP x CP Under attention DP with helix CP, the generation server could hang in the helix all-to-all. _can_queue gathered batch sizes over the TP group only, so each CP rank's TP group decided on its own. Under KV pressure one CP rank can pad an attention-DP dummy request that its peer fails to allocate (for example after a rank-local cancel or timeout freed KV on one CP rank only); one CP rank's TP group then forwards while the other's skips. The vote now gathers over TP x CP, and can_queue_this_rank is read from this DP rank's CP rows of the same gather, so its CP ranks also defer the previous batch together. With cp_size == 1 both are unchanged. When the vote fails, _finalize_adp_dummy_allocation rolls back a pending padded dummy (pp_size == 1, disaggregated) as before. Signed-off-by: Chuang Zhu <111838961+chuangz0@users.noreply.github.com>
…r V2 KV cache manager V2 is the default and V1 is being retired, and V2 now accepts attention DP with helix CP at pp_size == 1. The pp1dp2cp2 cases now run V2 + attention DP + helix end to end, and the gentp1cp2 short_prompt case covers an empty CP rank on V2. Dev Engineer Review
Attention-DP generation-side transfer consensus now spans helix CP ranks and, when configured, PP ranks. This prevents a rank from proceeding before its peers receive KV data. Non-DP and attention-DP without CP retain their existing consensus paths. KV-size metric scaling is factored into a helper; attention-DP scales by CP size, while other paths use TP × CP.
KVCacheManagerV2no longer rejects attention-DP with helix CP. Its restrictions on block reuse and draft managers remain. The DeepSeek V3 Lite helix integration path switches to the Python transceiver with NIXL. The shared helix test also sets a bounded request timeout so a transfer deadlock can fail the test instead of occupying the GPU slot until the class-level timeout.QA Engineer Review

Under attention-DP the Python KV cache transceiver (
KvCacheTransceiverV2) skipped the gen-side transfer-completion consensus whenpp_size == 1, assuming every DP rank owns disjoint requests. With helix context parallelism the CP ranks of one DP group share the same requests, so a CP rank could start decoding a request whose KV its peer had not received yet, and the helix all-to-all deadlocked.KVCacheManagerV2rejected attention-DP + helix for that reason. This PR keeps the helix CP ranks of a DP group in lockstep:
mGroupDataComm(_init_sync_policy,_dp_group_allgather).align_gen_admission_across_cp); dropped requests give back their V2 KV and retry.TRTLLM_DISABLE_KV_CACHE_TRANSFER_OVERLAP=1, used by gen_only benchmarks), a receive failure on one CP rank fails the request on every CP rank._can_queuevotes over TP x CP, so a dummy request padded on one CP rank cannot split a forward.KVCacheManagerV2accepts attention-DP + helix atpp_size == 1. Attention-DP + helix +pp_size > 1stays rejected in bothKVCacheManagerV2andKvCacheTransceiverV2, because the PP loop does not align admission across CP.Test Coverage
