…MiniMax-M3 decode attention PR NVIDIA#18872 (Eagle3 support for MiniMax-M3) rewrote the decode branch of MiniMaxM3Attention._sdpa_dense_attention_core into a loop: one scaled_dot_product_attention call per KV head, each on a repeat_interleave-expanded K/V slice. At a decode query length of 1 the per-call cost tracks KV length, not head count, so the loop multiplied dense-attention time per decode step by num_kv_heads. That cost about 5% total_token_throughput on minimax_m3_mxfp8 on B300. Fold each GQA group into SDPA's query-length axis instead. View Q as [batch, KV, group, d] and pass K/V unexpanded as [batch, KV, k, d]. Each dense layer then makes one SDPA call per decode step. This is exact for decode: every query row sits at seq_lens - 1, so one key-padding mask serves the whole group. Viewing the output as [batch, KV, group, d] keeps the head ordering. No expanded K/V temporary is allocated, so the CUDA-graph pool concern behind the loop still holds. Prefill is unchanged. Measured on release/1.3 (B300, same node, 3 reps each): 134.06 -> 146.45 total_token_throughput (+9.24%). Signed-off-by: trtllm-agent <296075020+trtllm-agent@users.noreply.github.com>
…DPA decode
The decode branch of MiniMaxM3Attention._sdpa_dense_attention_core folds
each GQA group into SDPA's query-length axis. No unit test exercised it.
Add a parity test that runs the real method against a per-request
repeat_interleave reference.
It covers num_kv_heads in {1, 2, 4} and group in {1, 4}, with a batch of
mixed seq_lens. Each request owns scattered pages, and the unused pool
slots are filled with large garbage values, so the seq_lens mask must
hide them.
Validated on B300. The test passes on this PR's code and on the previous
per-KV-head loop. It fails on four broken variants: a transpose/reshape
output copy, a group-major Q view, a batch-row-0 mask, and no mask.

1948-1948: 🩺 Stability & Availability | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winCover the grouped SDPA call in CUDA-graph capture and replay.
The decode branch still reaches the grouped SDPA call when CUDA graphs are enabled. The new test sets
is_cuda_graph=False, so it covers eager execution only. A capture or replay regression can remain undetected.Add a test with prebuilt decode metadata that captures the call, replays it with updated inputs, and compares the output with the

Approving — the comments below are optional touch-ups, not blockers.
I checked the head ordering and mask broadcast in the fold and both are correct. Q head h*group + g maps to KV head h, which matches repeat_interleave semantics. The single [batch, 1, 1, k] mask is valid for every group row because every decode row sits at seq_lens - 1. The code change matches #20029.
One thing should be fixed before merge: CI never runs the new parity test (see inline).

CI won't pick up this test as-is. test_minimax_m3.py tests are registered individually in the test-db lists, e.g. l0_b200.yml:41-43 for the CUDA ones and l0_cpu.yml for the CPU ones. The file is not collected as a whole. This test is also skipped without CUDA, so it needs a GPU-list entry, for example:
- unittest/_torch/models/test_minimax_m3.py::test_minimax_m3_sdpa_dense_decode_matches_repeat_interleave_referencein tests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_b200.yml, next to the other test_minimax_m3.py CUDA entries. Without that entry, nothing in CI guards the head-ordering and mask invariants this test was written to protect.

Summary
This is the
maincounterpart of #20029, which fixes the same regression onrelease/1.3(NVBug 6877539).Root cause. #18872 (Eagle3 support for MiniMax-M3) rewrote the decode branch of
MiniMaxM3Attention._sdpa_dense_attention_core. It used to make onescaled_dot_product_attentioncall over all query heads. It now loops and makes one call per KV head, each on arepeat_interleave-expanded K/V slice. During decode each request has a single query token, so the cost of one call depends on KV length, not head count. The loop therefore multiplied dense-attention time per decode step bynum_kv_heads. The result was a roughly 5%total_token_throughputdrop onminimax_m3_mxfp8on B300 (1.3.0rc27 → rc28).mainstill has the loop.Fix. Each GQA group is folded into SDPA's query-length axis:
[batch, KV, group, d], and K/V are passed unexpanded as[batch, KV, k, d], so each dense layer makes one SDPA call per decode step.seq_lens - 1, so one key-padding mask serves the whole group.[batch, KV, group, d]view, which keeps the head ordering.Test. This PR adds
test_minimax_m3_sdpa_dense_decode_matches_repeat_interleave_reference, the parity test requested in the review of #20029. It drives the real decode path through the real paged gather and pool write, with stub metadata. It checks the output against a per-requestrepeat_interleavereference, overnum_kv_heads ∈ {1, 2, 4}×group ∈ {1, 4}and a batch of mixedseq_lenswith padded rows. The code change is byte-identical to #20029. release/1.3fix: [https://nvbugs/6877539][fix] Fold GQA group into SDPA query axis in MiniMax-M3 decode attention #20029🤖 Generated with Claude Code
Dev Engineer Review
Dense MiniMax-M3 decode now reshapes Q to fold each KV head’s GQA group into SDPA’s query axis. It passes unexpanded K/V to one SDPA call and restores the output in KV-head/group order. Prefill behavior remains unchanged. This removes per-KV-head SDPA calls and avoids an expanded K/V temporary.
QA Engineer Review
The modified test file adds
test_minimax_m3_sdpa_dense_decode_matches_repeat_interleave_reference. It checks output equivalence across KV-head counts 1, 2, and 4; group sizes 1 and 4; mixed sequence lengths; and padded rows. The test file is present intests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_cpu.yml, but the new test function is not listed there. Coverage verdict: needs follow-up. The supplied PR objective reports 6/6 passes for the new test; that result is not independently verified here.Per-File QA Perspective
tensorrt_llm/_torch/models/modeling_minimaxm3.py: Verify dense decode output ordering and numerical equivalence across GQA group sizes, sequence lengths, and padded rows. Confirm that prefill behavior remains unchanged.tests/unittest/_torch/models/test_minimax_m3.py: The new CUDA test compares dense SDPA decode with a repeat-interleave reference over six geometry combinations. The file appears in the CPU test list, but the new test is not explicitly listed; confirm that CI runs this CUDA test on an appropriate GPU.
