Description

https://nvbugs/6770503 is a functional bug in a perf-sanity unit test. #18990 renamed the perf-sanity helpers (GEN_ONLY_DEVICE_STEP_TIME_METRICS → DEVICE_STEP_TIME_METRICS, …), the helper unit tests still used the old names and broke, and #19129 updated them.

Perf sanity is a test script, not product code. Unit tests on that script don't protect product behavior. They only fail when the script is refactored, as happened here. A real defect in the script shows up as a failure in the perf-sanity stage itself. This PR removes the perf-sanity unit tests from release/1.3.

tests/unittest/scripts/test_perf_sanity_helpers.py, the file the bug was filed against, is already gone: #19107 deleted it. This PR removes the perf-sanity unit tests that remain.

Deleted. Each file below tests perf-sanity code and nothing else.

File What it tested
tests/unittest/others/test_cache_transceiver_precheck_config.py tests/scripts/perf-sanity/cache_transceiver_precheck/precheck_config.py (also imports run_precheck.py)
tests/unittest/others/test_cache_transceiver_precheck_run.py tests/scripts/perf-sanity/cache_transceiver_precheck/run_precheck.py
tests/unittest/disaggregated/test_cache_transceiver_precheck_e2e.py End-to-end run of run_precheck.py on one GPU
tests/unittest/others/test_perf_regression_branch.py s_branch handling in tests/integration/defs/perf/perf_regression_utils.py, the perf-sanity regression check and OpenSearch upload (#18127)
tests/unittest/others/test_http_utils_fail_fast.py The perf-sanity fail-fast path (#16403): the check_files / server_proc arguments of wait_for_endpoint_ready, plus fail_if_proc_died and report_error. Only test_perf_sanity.py and test_visual_gen_perf_sanity.py use these. The functional callers (_test_disagg_serving_multi_nodes.py, test_disagg_serving_perf_metrics.py) call wait_for_endpoint_ready(url) without them.

Trimmed. These two files mix in tests of code that isn't perf-sanity, so only the perf-sanity tests are removed.

  • tests/unittest/scripts/test_perf_submit.py: removes the tests of jenkins/scripts/perf/submit.py and jenkins/scripts/perf/local/submit.py. Keeps the two tests of examples/disaggregated/slurm/benchmark/submit.py, which is an example and not part of perf sanity.
  • tests/unittest/scripts/test_cluster_env.py: removes the tests of the PerfSanity-only side of tests/test_common/cluster_env.py: get_ucx_tls_cmd, the stage-name and supported_gpus parsing, and the jenkins/scripts/perf/cluster_env.py re-export. Keeps the tests of apply_ucx_env() and detect_gpu_type(), which the multi-node disagg serving tests use ([https://nvbugs/6812588][fix] Apply the cluster UCX rules in multi-node disagg tests #20114).

Bookkeeping.

  • The precheck tests are listed by name in l0_a10.yml and l0_h100.yml, so their entries are removed. Leaving them would point CI at files that no longer exist.
  • Their .test_durations entries are removed too.
  • The precheck README.md and a run_precheck.py docstring pointed readers at the deleted tests. Those pointers are removed; there are no code changes.

Kept on purpose. These tests mention perf sanity but test something else:

  • test_cbts.py: uses perf-sanity paths as fixtures for CBTS test selection.
  • test_custom_config_registration.py: tests transformers AutoConfig registration.
  • test_time_breakdown.py: tests tensorrt_llm/serve/scripts/time_breakdown.
  • test_perf_fixed_sequence_length.py: tests defs/perf/test_perf.py, the QA perf suite, not perf sanity.

Test Coverage

This PR only removes tests.

  • The two trimmed files pass when run standalone (without the unittest conftest, which needs a tensorrt_llm install): 21 passed in test_cluster_env.py + test_perf_submit.py.
  • scripts/check_test_list.py --validate passes (OK: 1967 unique test entries validated), and so does --check-duplicate-waives.
  • git grep finds no remaining reference to any deleted file, in test lists or anywhere else in the tree.
  • l0_cpu.yml collects unittest/others and unittest/scripts as directories, and l0_a10.yml collects unittest/scripts, so the remaining tests in those directories keep running.

Dev Engineer Review

The changes remove three cache-transceiver precheck test modules and two other unit-test modules. They also remove entries for the precheck tests from the A10 and H100 CI lists and from .test_durations. Confirm that these tests are no longer required for release coverage. The deleted precheck tests covered functional behavior and failure paths, so their removal reduces regression coverage even if they were written to test helper code.

The only described change outside tests and test configuration is a clarification to run_precheck.py documentation. No runtime implementation change is reported. The PR objectives report 21 standalone tests passing across the trimmed test files and successful test-list validation; these results were not independently verified here.

QA Engineer Review

The change removes test_cache_transceiver_precheck_e2e.py, test_cache_transceiver_precheck_config.py, test_cache_transceiver_precheck_run.py, test_http_utils_fail_fast.py, and test_perf_regression_branch.py. It trims perf-sanity tests from test_cluster_env.py and test_perf_submit.py. It removes the three precheck tests from .test_durations, two entries from l0_a10.yml, and one entry from l0_h100.yml. No added test functions, test IDs, selectors, or waivers are reported. The precheck tests are removed from the listed CI test lists; manual-QA list status is not established. Coverage verdict: needs follow-up, because the deleted tests covered functional behavior and error paths.

Per-File QA Perspective

  • tests/integration/defs/.test_durations — Removes duration records for three deleted precheck tests. The parent-directory records remain.
  • tests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_a10.yml — Removes the config and run precheck tests from the A10 CI list.
  • tests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_h100.yml — Removes the precheck end-to-end test from the H100 CI list.
  • tests/scripts/perf-sanity/cache_transceiver_precheck/README.md — Removes documented pytest commands for the deleted config, contract, and end-to-end tests.
  • tests/scripts/perf-sanity/cache_transceiver_precheck/run_precheck.py — Changes documentation only; it no longer describes the helper-rename failure or contract-test guard.
  • tests/unittest/disaggregated/test_cache_transceiver_precheck_e2e.py — Deletes end-to-end coverage for transfers, architecture fallback, fingerprint mismatches, and checkpoint visibility. The test was listed in l0_h100.yml.
  • tests/unittest/others/test_cache_transceiver_precheck_config.py — Deletes coverage for precheck configuration, orchestration, transfer contracts, model resolution, and bandwidth parsing. The test was listed in l0_a10.yml.
  • tests/unittest/others/test_cache_transceiver_precheck_run.py — Deletes coverage for protocol messages, rendezvous and abort handling, status recording, timeouts, transfer ownership, and internal API compatibility. The test was listed in l0_a10.yml.
  • tests/unittest/others/test_http_utils_fail_fast.py — Deletes coverage for endpoint readiness, process-death handling, log-tail reporting, and error-keyword scanning. CI-list status is not established.
  • tests/unittest/others/test_perf_regression_branch.py — Deletes coverage for branch extraction and baseline-query routing. CI-list status is not established.
  • tests/unittest/scripts/test_cluster_env.py — Removes perf-sanity parsing and cluster-rule tests; other tests remain. CI-list status is not established.
  • tests/unittest/scripts/test_perf_submit.py — Removes CI and local submit-module tests and adds checks for invalid and positive concurrency values in the disaggregated Slurm example. CI-list status is not established.

…se/1.3

Perf sanity is a test script, not product code. A failure in it is a
functional bug in the script that shows up when the perf-sanity stage runs.
These unit tests guard only the harness and break whenever it is refactored
(nvbugs/6770503 was exactly that: helper tests that fell behind a rename).

Removed perf-sanity-only unit test files:
- tests/unittest/others/test_cache_transceiver_precheck_config.py
- tests/unittest/others/test_cache_transceiver_precheck_run.py
- tests/unittest/disaggregated/test_cache_transceiver_precheck_e2e.py
- tests/unittest/others/test_perf_regression_branch.py
- tests/unittest/others/test_http_utils_fail_fast.py

Trimmed, keeping the tests of non-perf-sanity code:
- tests/unittest/scripts/test_perf_submit.py: drop the
  jenkins/scripts/perf/{submit.py,local/submit.py} tests; keep the
  examples/disaggregated/slurm/benchmark/submit.py tests.
- tests/unittest/scripts/test_cluster_env.py: drop the PerfSanity UCX
  shell-prefix and stage-name tests; keep detect_gpu_type() and
apply_ucx_env(), which the multi-node disagg serving tests use.

Also drop the deleted files from l0_a10.yml, l0_h100.yml and
.test_durations, and the doc pointers to them in the precheck README and
run_precheck.py.

The PR removes the focused pre-merge check for private APIs used by the disaggregated precheck, so a later upstream rename may only surface when that perf-sanity path runs. This is a bounded regression-detection gap; equivalent coverage should be restored as follow-up.

@schetlur-nv could you review this when you have a moment? It only deletes perf-sanity unit tests and removes the test-list, durations and doc references to them. There are no product code changes. Your approval would cover both remaining code-owner teams (trt-llm-devs and trt-llm-perf-devs).

@brnguyen2 (trt-llm-devs) and @longlee0622 (trt-llm-perf-devs), could you review this? The PR only deletes perf-sanity unit tests and the test-list, durations and doc references to them. There are no product code changes.

Each of your teams still needs to approve. The approval also unblocks CI: the multi-GPU stages are waiting for the ci: full pre-merge approved label, which is added automatically once the PR is fully approved.

The CI failures so far are unrelated to this PR. One is release/1.3's test_starlette_constraint_floor regression from #20146, with details in #20146 (comment). The other is a single MPI-session timeout on SBSA. The tests this PR changes all passed.

@BowenFu (trt-llm-devs) and @juney-nvidia (trt-llm-devs and trt-llm-perf-devs), could one of you take a look? This closes https://nvbugs/6770503, where Bowen asked whether the test now passes. It does: the failing file was already deleted, and this PR removes the remaining perf-sanity unit tests from release/1.3. It only deletes tests and their test-list, durations and doc references. There are no product code changes.

CI on the head commit 3541763, rerun L0_MergeRequest_PR #225: 0 failed, 391 passed. That includes the A10 and CPU unittest/scripts stages, which run the two trimmed files. The pipeline is UNSTABLE only because the multi-GPU stages are blocked on the ci: full pre-merge approved label. The label is added automatically once trt-llm-devs and trt-llm-perf-devs approve. Shixiaowei02 and chienchunhung have approved for trt-llm-disagg-devs.

Note: release/1.3 has an unrelated regression, test_starlette_constraint_floor, from #20146 (details in #20146 (comment)). It will fail any release/1.3 pre-merge run that collects unittest/others until that is fixed.

⚠️ Multi-GPU Label Required:
Multi-GPU tests require the ci: full pre-merge approved label on this PR. Either:

  • Wait for the PR to be fully approved — the label is added automatically once approval is complete. Having unresolved open comments is fine, or
  • If needed, ask a member of NVIDIA/trt-llm-ci-approvers to add the label manually.
Then re-trigger CI with the same bot command (no rebase needed).

⚠️ Action Required:

  • Please check the failed tests and fix your PR
  • If you cannot view the failures, ask the CI triggerer to share details
  • Once fixed, request an NVIDIA team member to trigger CI again
