Important

Don't merge before #531. Until it lands, migrate stays behind CLERK_EXPERIMENTAL=migrate, so this hint would point at a command that refuses to run.

Summary

People who want to bulk-import users, or bring them over from another provider, look under clerk users first. Its help never mentioned clerk migrate, so now it ends with a pointer:

Examples:
$ clerk users list List users
  ...

To bring users in from another provider (Auth0, Firebase, Supabase, and more),
use `clerk migrate`.

Changes

  • Add the hint to clerk users --help with addHelpText("after"), the same way clerk completion adds its tutorial. Subcommand help doesn't show it.
  • Add the same pointer to the top of the users README, linked to the migrate README.
  • Pin the hint in cli-program.test.ts, next to the other users help test.
  • Add a patch changeset.

Not Planned

  • The root README only mirrors clerk --help, so it doesn't change.
  • Agent mode prints the same --help. The agent output for a bare clerk users (its subcommand list and usage error) stays as it is.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

People looking for bulk import or migration often check `clerk users`
first. End its help with a pointer to `clerk migrate`.

Walkthrough

The users command help now directs users migrating from another provider to clerk migrate. Tests check that the hint appears in parent help and does not appear in users list help. The README and a patch changeset also describe the guidance.

Priority: Low

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Possibly related issues

  • clerk/cli#576: The new help hint uses the bare clerk migrate form, which is also affected by this issue’s concern about commands failing when clerk is not on PATH.

Possibly related PRs

  • clerk/cli#531: Removes the experimental gate from clerk migrate, the command named in this PR’s help text.

Explanation

The title states the main change: adding a pointer to clerk migrate in clerk users --help. It matches the changeset, the help text in index.ts, the README update, and the test. The title is specific and follows a conventional commit format. It does not mention the dependency on #531, which the description covers.

Explanation

The description explains the purpose: users looking for bulk import or cross-provider migration under clerk users do not find clerk migrate mentioned. It lists the changes (help hint, README pointer, test, changeset), the scope exclusions (root README, agent mode), and a merge dependency on #531. It matches the changeset closely.

Remove the migration pointers until the gate is removed.

clerk migrate remains experimental. Without CLERK_EXPERIMENTAL=migrate, it exits with experiment_disabled. Both the users help text and README direct default users to this command, so the documented workflow fails.

Same as the earlier thread: this waits on #531, which drops the gate. Removing the hint would undo the PR.
