📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughGraph boundary scalar pools now use ChangesGraph boundary capacity
Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to The change correctly permits graph boundary pools up to GRAPH_MAX_SCALAR_ARGS while preserving per-task limits. No actionable merge-blocking risk remains; a minor follow-up is needed for a test helper’s zero-sized input case, which is confined to test construction. Poem

Reject a zero-sized boundary scalar pool in these helpers.
boundary_scalar_count == 0 wraps at Line 90 and Lines 136-137. make_test_submission then writes outside image.
Add a nonzero precondition, or generate a definition without a BOUNDARY scalar reference when the pool is empty.

Compare
bind_graph_topology bounds the boundary scalar pool by GRAPH_MAX_SCALAR_ARGS (64), not the per-task MAX_SCALAR_ARGS (16); the mismatch shipped Definitions the device refused at localize (hw-native-sys#1939). No case in CI crosses a boundary wider than 16 scalars any more — the DSv4 HBG case's block decomposition brought every boundary under 16 — so the bound has no scene-level regression coverage. - UT: a pool wider than one task payload (MAX_SCALAR_ARGS + 3) localizes and materializes, and a node reads the pool's last entry; fails against the pre-hw-native-sys#1939 check - UT: a pool beyond GRAPH_MAX_SCALAR_ARGS is rejected at localize - Correct the GraphTaskArgs sizing comment in both arch pto_types.h: the boundary ships to the device in the submission image and is read there, so widening it also costs submission-image bytes
…:set (#1951) `PTO2TaskSlotState::task` became a `SelfRelativePtr<PTO2TaskDescriptor>` in #1947, which deletes copy-assignment on purpose -- the stored value is a delta from the field's own address, so assigning one from a raw pointer or another field would silently retarget it. That change converted the three call sites in `test_hbg_graph_cache.cpp` it could see. The two in `LocalizesBoundaryScalarPoolWiderThanTaskPayload` and `RejectsBoundaryScalarPoolBeyondContract` arrived from #1941 while it was in review, so neither PR's own CI ever compiled both halves together, and `test_graph_cache` has not built on main since they merged: tests/ut/cpp/common/test_hbg_graph_cache.cpp:444:24: error: no match for 'operator=' (operand types are 'simpler::hbg::SelfRelativePtr<PTO2TaskDescriptor>' and 'PTO2TaskDescriptor*') Both now use `outer_slot.task.set(&outer_task)`, the form the file's other three slots already use. Verified locally: `test_graph_cache` and `test_a5_graph_cache` both build, and `ctest -R graph_cache -LE requires_hardware` passes 2/2.
`PTO2TaskSlotState::task` is a `SelfRelativePtr`, whose copy-assignment is deleted and which offers no `operator=(T *)`: a delta only means something relative to where it is stored, so every write goes through `set()`. `test_hbg_graph_cache.cpp` assigns a raw pointer at two of its five binding sites, which fails to compile: test_hbg_graph_cache.cpp:444: no match for 'operator=' (operand types are 'simpler::hbg::SelfRelativePtr<PTO2TaskDescriptor>' and 'PTO2TaskDescriptor*') Both sites are in the boundary-scalar-pool regressions added by hw-native-sys#1941, against the representation hw-native-sys#1947 introduced; the two landed without seeing each other, so ut-cpp is red on the default branch. Reproduced on a clean a5c6093. Two `std::lock_guard` uses become `std::scoped_lock` in the same file that the graph orchestration change touches: clang-tidy checks a modified file in full and `modernize-use-scoped-lock` rejects them. ctest: 114/114.
Summary
Follow-up to #1939, which fixed
bind_graph_topologyto bound the Graph boundary scalar pool byGRAPH_MAX_SCALAR_ARGS(64) instead of the per-taskMAX_SCALAR_ARGS(16). That fix landed without tests, and no scene case exercises the bound any more: the DSv4 HBG case's block decomposition brought every boundary under 16 scalars, so a regression would not turn any CI check red.MAX_SCALAR_ARGS + 3= 19, the width the pre-split DSv4 body shipped) localizes, materializes, and a node reads the pool's last entry. Fails against the pre-Fix: record Graph dependencies from the writer, not the allocator #1939 check (verified by reverting the bound locally).GRAPH_MAX_SCALAR_ARGSis refused at localize.GraphTaskArgssizing comment in both archpto_types.h: "the boundary is read host-side only" predates the shared-Definition upload — the boundary now ships in the submission image and is read on device by the materialize pass, so widening it also costs submission-image bytes (not only orchestration stack).Testing
test_graph_cache/test_a5_graph_cache: 20/20 pass on current main (includes the two new tests)
