Low-severity follow-ups from the reviews of #8249 and #8253 (issue #8243).
Orphan token recovery on Windows (src/client/orphan-token-recovery.ts): when recovery refuses after creating the .service-api-token.identity hard-link pin, it now removes the pin before reporting the backup folder, but only while another name still holds the token, so a refusal never deletes the last copy. If a crash leaves a pin behind, the token has two links and every retry used to fail with a generic unsafe token file. That refusal now says another hard link exists and tells you to remove the leftover .<name>.identity pin from the orphaned-token-* backup folder. All existing guards stay in place, and no message prints token bytes.
Child listener (src/client/machine-listener.ts): unrelated /api/machine/* requests no longer read config.json; the path check now runs before the durable-state check. Each /readyz reads durable state once, after the readiness probe (the read fix(link): report stale Child connection readiness #8249's in-flight test protects), and both 503 paths now share one response body.
Readiness type (src/client/link-readiness.ts): client_state_changed is now a member of LinkReadinessReason instead of an inline literal.
Dashboard: discovery (gui/src/api-targets.ts) and Remote Link session validation (gui/src/connect-pairing-transport.ts) now recognize 503 {"error":"client_state_changed"}. In that case the dashboard shows the documented reason and recovery steps instead of the generic "local machine plane is unavailable" or "request failed" text. The new string is translated in all 11 locales.
Docs: structure/runtime.md and the Remote Link guide describe the single post-probe check, the pin cleanup, and how to recover from a leftover pin.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Remote Link now detects when a running Child’s saved connection no longer matches its current state. The dashboard displays guidance to stop or restart the Child and verify its connection before linking again.
Bug Fixes
Improved interrupted orphan-token recovery handling. When recovery cannot safely continue, the refusal message identifies leftover identity files and explains how to clean up before retrying.
Documentation
Updated recovery guidance with steps for resolving leftover identity files after an interrupted attempt.
…8243)
Remove a Windows identity pin on refusal while another name still holds the token, name a leftover .identity pin in the nlink refusal, read durable Child state once per /readyz and only for the status routes that report it, type client_state_changed as a LinkReadiness reason, and show the 503 reason with recovery guidance in the dashboard.
The Child listener now reports when durable connection state differs from the running connection. The GUI distinguishes that response during target discovery and pairing. Orphan-token recovery also updates how it handles leftover Windows identity pins and documents the retry procedure.

Summary
Readiness and status-route checks src/client/link-readiness.ts, src/client/machine-listener.ts, tests/clients/client-machine-listener.test.ts
Readiness now includes client_state_changed when durable connection state differs from the running Child. The listener checks state after the readiness probe and on relevant status routes. Tests check that the state is read once for readiness and authenticated machine status, and not for an unknown route.
Target discovery and pairing validation recognize a 503 response with client_state_changed. The GUI displays a specific message, and translation catalogs and tests cover the response.

Recovery tracks Windows identity pins and conditionally removes them when another hard link still holds the original token. It refuses unsafe token files with multiple hard links and identifies the leftover pin in the error. Tests and documentation describe the refusal and retry cases.

Treat the identity pin as a possible cause.
If an earlier recovery was interrupted but the extra hard link is elsewhere, this message directs the operator to remove a pin that may not exist. Recovery remains blocked. Present the pin as a possibility and advise the operator to inspect other hard links.

Fixed in 8353f1f: the refusal now presents a leftover .<name>.identity pin as a possible cause, and says to inspect other hard links to the file when no pin is present. The hard-link check and refusal are unchanged.

Retain identity pins when recovery refuses.
On Windows, another process can remove the remaining token name after lstatSync(pin) checks the link count but before unlinkSync(pin) runs. Cleanup can then delete the last name and lose the token bytes. Retain tracked pins on refusal and use the documented manual cleanup procedure.

Keeping the cleanup; the task for this PR explicitly asked to remove the pin on refusal. The pin is unlinked only while lstat reports another name, and a pin that is the last name is kept (covered by "Windows-style identity pin is kept when it is the last name of the original"). The remaining window needs a process that deletes the other name between lstat and unlink. Recovery holds the start lease, lifecycle lock and config lock at that point, so only a non-cooperating process can do that, and that process was already discarding the token. Renaming the original keeps the link count, so it cannot cause loss.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
@lidge-jun Understood. The locks protect against cooperating processes, and the test covers a pin that is already the last name.
The separate lstatSync and unlinkSync calls leave a small window for a non-cooperating deletion. I understand that you accept this residual risk to meet the PR’s cleanup requirement.
