fix(files): load PDFs in browser previews - #21095
Conversation
ApprovabilityVerdict: Needs Human Approval Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — The PR spans new native PDF infrastructure, server-side browser interception, shared URL routing, and web/Electron rendering changes across multiple platforms. Its broad runtime and CSP impact exceeds a small self-contained fix, despite the accompanying regression tests. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

Note Generated by GPT 6.1 Sol @coderabbitai The description warning and walkthrough refer to the superseded implementation. On the current head, 389d3ca, the diff against the PR base contains no changes to apps/web/package.json and no PDF.js viewer files. Web and Electron render PDFs through native embed elements. The statement that tests were not run is also obsolete: CI, including Test Web on its rerun, now passes on this head, and 99 focused local tests pass. I added an explicit Scope and approval section describing the native dependencies, navigation patch, CSP and CDP changes, and the remaining need for maintainer approval. The description now records the final implementation and verified results. |

Brings in upstream through pingdotgg#17688 (1451e7c). - Superseded: OpenCode re-adding T3's MCP server after idle eviction (pingdotgg#16796 re-adds it every turn). Dropped Cody's list-and-reconnect check and its testkit routes. - Superseded: release notes links follow the configured update repository (pingdotgg#21210). Cody's default is now vedprakash2302/Cody inside upstream's helper. - Superseded: provider limit bar colours (pingdotgg#16936) cover OpenCode. - Adapted: Windows work-account sign-in in server browser tabs. Upstream's PDF navigation (pingdotgg#21095) also intercepts with CDP Fetch on the same tab, and Fetch.enable replaces patterns, so sign-in turned PDF interception off and the PDF listener answered sign-in requests without proofs. Both now add patterns through FetchInterception.ts and answer only their own stage; WindowsSso.test.ts covers the shared tab. - RepositoryIdentityResolver: kept Cody's partial-clone remote parser and applied upstream's local-remote filter (pingdotgg#13129) on top. - Mobile new task flow and scheduled task form: re-expressed Cody's worktree base ref and thread picker without useMemo/useCallback (React Compiler). - Integrations: kept the Windows sign-in row next to upstream's new Agent browser access row. - Kept Cody's manifest name and desktop userData folders in upstream's new tests.

Fixes #21415
PDF links opened from local HTML in the Browser panel showed a blank page because the server browser has no built-in PDF viewer.
Render signed PDF assets in the connected client. Web and Electron use the native PDF viewer through an embed element. iOS uses its WebView PDF support, and Android uses react-native-pdf-jsi 5.0.0 with Nitro Modules 0.37.1 and validated temporary downloads. Keep browser history working and resolve connected-environment and loopback asset URLs through the client's connection, preserving unrelated origins. Only successful PDF responses commit the client-viewer document. Allow PDF embeds under Electron's production content policy.
Android releases downloaded PDFs on rendering errors, retry, and close. PDF web links open through the existing external-link path, with relative links resolved against the original PDF URL. The custom PDF.js viewer and its dependency are removed. The v5 patch fixes the Android Gradle ProGuard filename and loads the native library before JavaScript creates its Nitro objects. The previous FlatList workaround is removed. iOS toolbar updates reuse the existing screen-option stabilizer so opening a PDF does not enter a navigation update loop.
Scope and approval
This fixes existing PDF preview behavior in the Browser and Files panels across web, desktop, iOS, and Android. The implementation includes Android native dependencies, Electron embed policy changes, and server CDP navigation interception. Maintainer approval is still required before merge.
