Keep a File Whose Timestamp Repair Stops on a Post-Decode DTS - #1103
When the timestamp repair ladder stops after the remux tier on a post-decode-only DTS, the file is marked RepairFailed. With DeleteInvalidFiles on, Process.ProcessFile() then deleted it. 3.22 re-encoded and kept such a file. The maintainer chose to keep it.
The new SidecarFile.StatesType.PostDecodeTimestamps flag (1 << 18) is set together with RepairFailed when RepairTimestampsAndSetState() fails after a remux-only ladder.
The flag is sticky. Only a successful repair, or a verify that actually ran clean, clears it. A failure path can lack the evidence that a stop was not post-decode, such as a failed packet analysis (raised by Qodo) or a residual classification that never ran, so no failure clears it. A pass with the Verify option off skips verification and keeps it (raised by CodeRabbit).
DeleteFailedFile() keeps a file whose state carries the flag. The flag lives in the sidecar, so the keep also holds on later runs, where Verify() fails a VerifyFailed file early and DeleteFailedFile() runs again.
ARCHITECTURE.md and HISTORY.md describe the flag and the keep.
Verification
VerifyAndRepair_PostDecodeTimestampRepairFails_KeepsFilesOnEveryRun: the remux-only stop with no re-encode, then a second ProcessFile that reads the sidecar back, with the file kept both times.
RepairTimestamps_PacketAnalysisFailsRepairFails_KeepsPostDecodeAndFiles: a flagged file whose FfProbe exits 1 through a failing ladder keeps the flag and both files.
RepairTimestamps_CleanVerify_ClearsPostDecode and VerifyAndRepair_VerifyPasses_ClearsPostDecodeOnlyWhenVerified: a clean verify clears the flag only when it ran.
Each guard and each clear was mutation-checked. Removing it fails its test.
dotnet test: all tests pass. The CSharpier, build, and dotnet format style --verify-no-changes chain is clean. prose_lint.py --diff <merge-base> is clean, with and without --check sentence-length.
Local strict review: recorded on every pushed head. Declined findings:
The DtsTimestampRepair plugin's DecodeError case leaves the state, flag included, unchanged by design.
README.md "If repair fails, delete or mark file to be ignored" is a feature list of conditional options.
Relates to #1099, which closes when the promotion merges.
A repair ladder that stops after the remux tier on a post-decode only DTS marks the file
RepairFailed. DeleteInvalidFiles then deleted it, although 3.22 re-encoded and kept such a file.
The new PostDecodeTimestamps state flag records that stop in the sidecar, so DeleteFailedFile()
keeps the file on this run and on every later run that reads the sidecar.

Walkthrough
The change adds PostDecodeTimestamps to sidecar state. Timestamp repair sets or clears the flag based on the failure classification, and failed-file deletion preserves files with the flag.

Keep files when post-decode DTS repair cannot succeed

AI Description
• Preserve media and sidecars when a post-decode DTS repair stops after remuxing.
• Persist the failure marker across runs; clear it when the condition no longer applies.
• Test file retention and deletion behavior, and document the new state.

High-Level Assessment
The following are alternative approaches to this PR:
1. Persist a typed repair-failure reason
➕ Could represent additional failure-specific retention policies later.
➖ Requires a broader sidecar schema and state-transition change for one targeted exception.
Recommendation: Keep the persisted flag approach. Deletion occurs on later runs after repair is skipped, so a transient repair result would not suffice; the flag preserves the reason without broadening the policy for every RepairFailed file.

1. A probe failure can expose a kept file to deletion✓ Resolved
Description
RepairTimestampsAndSetState() treats a failed packet analysis as a non-post-decode result and
clears PostDecodeTimestamps after the repair tiers fail. If the timestamp-repair plugin revisits a
protected file and ffprobe exits nonzero, the plugin can save that cleared state; a later normal run
then skips verification because VerifyFailed remains set and deletes the file when
DeleteInvalidFiles is enabled.
The plugin revisits files marked RepairFailed. A nonzero ffprobe exit returns false without
recording a tool error, leaving packet analysis null; the added branch then clears the saved keep
flag. The normal processor short-circuits on VerifyFailed and reaches deletion without that flag.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
A failed packet probe produces no DTS classification, but the failure branch treats it as a confirmed non-post-decode result. The timestamp-repair plugin can thereby remove a saved deletion guard without establishing that the file is safe to delete.

## Recommended Fix
Track whether packet analysis succeeded separately from `postDecodeOnly`. On an inconclusive analysis, do not clear an existing `PostDecodeTimestamps` flag, and ensure a failed probe cannot make the file eligible for deletion on that run. Clear the flag only after a successful analysis establishes a non-post-decode failure. Add a regression test that revisits a flagged file with a nonzero ffprobe exit and verifies the file remains protected.

What changed in this PR
This pull request preserves files when timestamp repair stops at the remux tier because the remaining DTS issue is visible only after decoding. The condition is persisted in the sidecar so affected files are retained across subsequent runs.
Changes:
Added the persisted PostDecodeTimestamps state flag.
Updated timestamp-repair state transitions and deletion safeguards.
Added regression coverage for retention across runs and clearing on demux-visible DTS failures.
Documented the behavior in HISTORY.md and ARCHITECTURE.md.
Moderate issue: failed packet analysis can incorrectly clear the persisted keep flag, allowing a later run to delete the file.

A failed FfProbe packet analysis proves nothing about the DTS, so a failed ladder clears the flag only after an analysis that ran.

A failure path can lack the evidence that the stop was not post-decode, so no failure clears the flag.

Its successor, RepairTimestamps_PacketAnalysisFailsRepairFails_KeepsPostDecodeAndFiles, runs the same full ladder and now asserts the FfMpeg step count is 3 (5a8b235).
