Adds tests for the coverage gaps #1144 lists. Each new test fails when the check it guards is removed.

  • MinimumVersionTests: Tools.VerifyToolVersions returns false for each tool below its minimum, and true at the minimum or for a version it cannot compare. VerifyToolVersions goes from private to internal so the test can call it. The class joins the Sequential collection because it sets each tool's Info.
  • CleanupStepRepeatTests: ProcessFile_RewriteDropsFlagsInRun_SetsThemInCleanupReRun runs Process.ProcessFile end to end. SetUnknownLanguageTracks runs after the first RepairMetadataErrors and brings in a Commentary title, so only the if (modified) cleanup re-run sets the flag. With that re-run removed, the test fails with one MkvPropEdit call instead of two.
  • test_corpus_common: find_run skips a newer run from another channel and picks it when asked for that channel.
  • test_reduce_corpus: process_clip mounts the staged settings at /config read-write and passes --settingsfile, plus the --user IDs. The test fakes os.getuid and os.getgid so it runs on Windows.
  • ReplaceOriginalTests: ConvertToMkv_ReplacesInputOnlyAfterEveryStep checks that MkvPropEdit gets one whole --edit track:@N --set language=<tag> argument set for each track with a defined language. The branch merges develop after Restore IETF Language Tags After Every FFmpeg or HandBrake Rewrite #1152, which reworked this conversion path and its fake tools.

Verification: the full .NET suite passes (483 tests) and the RegressionTests unittest suite passes. ruff, mypy, CSharpier and dotnet format style are clean. To check that the tests bite, I made VerifyToolVersions always return true, which failed all seven OneToolOlder cases. Removing the re-run's RepairMetadataErrors call failed the new ProcessFile test. Making SetTrackLanguage send Language instead of LanguageAny, or no edits at all, failed both conversion cases that reach MkvPropEdit.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Added coverage for restoring media flags during cleanup and handling rewritten track metadata.
    • Expanded checks for minimum tool versions, including older and uncomparable versions.
    • Added regression coverage for selecting runs by channel and staging writable settings for corpus processing.
    • Improved validation of track-language editing arguments when replacing input files.

ptr727 and others added 2 commits November 1, 2026 11:20
Each test catches the removal of a check that no test covered:
- Tools.VerifyToolVersions refuses a tool older than its minimum.
- Process.ProcessFile repeats RepairMetadataErrors when a later step
  drops a flag.
- find_run skips a newer run from another channel.
- process_clip mounts the staged settings writable and passes
  --settingsfile.

VerifyToolVersions is internal so the tests can call it.

os.getuid and os.getgid are absent on Windows, so the test patches
them and asserts the --user argument they feed.

Walkthrough

The pull request exposes VerifyToolVersions to the test assembly and adds regression tests for tool-version checks, cleanup reruns, track-edit arguments, corpus run selection, and staged settings mounts.

Changes: Cleanup and track-edit regression tests

Layer / File(s) Summary
Cleanup rerun setup and assertions
PlexCleanerTests/CleanupStepRepeatTests.cs
The fixture saves, disables, and restores four process options. A new test checks that processing succeeds after a rewrite changes track metadata, invokes mkvpropedit twice, and leaves the file in the SetFlags state.
Track-edit argument assertions
PlexCleanerTests/ReplaceOriginalTests.cs
The test checks that logged arguments include the temporary output name and the expected edit and language settings for each track with a defined language.

Minimum tool-version checks

Layer / File(s) Summary
Version-check access and test cases
PlexCleaner/Tools.cs, PlexCleanerTests/MinimumVersionTests.cs
VerifyToolVersions is now internal. Tests cover minimum versions, an older version, and an uncomparable HandBrake version. The test class restores tool information after each test.

Corpus run selection

Layer / File(s) Summary
Cross-channel run selection test
RegressionTests/tests/test_corpus_common.py
A test checks that default lookup selects the develop run and explicit latest-channel lookup selects the newer latest run.

Staged corpus settings mount

Layer / File(s) Summary
Writable settings mount test
RegressionTests/tests/test_reduce_corpus.py
A mocked subprocess test checks the writable config volume, UID/GID, settings-file argument, staged settings file, and returned state.

Keep the direct version-gate tests and the fake-tool end-to-end cleanup test. Testing through external tool discovery or a real container would add environmental dependencies without better isolating these checks; the Python command test likewise avoids requiring Docker.

Nitpick Assert the commentary flag is written on the cleanup re-run.

439-441: Trivial · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Assert the commentary flag is written on the cleanup re-run.

The test passes when the re-run writes no flag. The mkvpropedit call count still equals two, and SetFlags is recorded before the write is checked (PlexCleaner/ProcessFile.cs:733). The fake does not update MkvMergeInfoData.json after its first call, so the reloaded audio track keeps its Commentary title and no commentary flag.

Have the fake apply the repaired metadata only when the re-run passes flag-commentary. Then assert that the reloaded audio track no longer has the SetFlags action.

Suggested test change

Nitpick Assert that the config mount precedes the image.

79-82: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Assert that the config mount precedes the image.

The test collects --volume values from args without checking their position. A /config:rw entry placed after IMAGE still appears in volumes, so assertIn passes and the test does not detect that move. Add a check that the mount appears before IMAGE.

Suggested fix
             volumes = [args[i + 1] for i, arg in enumerate(args) if arg == "--volume"]
             self.assertIn(f"{workdir / 'config'}:/config:rw", volumes)
+ self.assertIn(f"{workdir / 'config'}:/config:rw", args[: args.index(reduce_corpus.IMAGE)])

The current argument order already places the config mount before IMAGE, so the added assertion passes on the current code. The gap affects regression detection only.

Nitpick Assert that --user is immediately followed by 1000:100.

81-81: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Assert that --user is immediately followed by 1000:100.

The assertion at line 81 checks only that 1000:100 appears somewhere in args. The production command passes --user and f"{uid}:{gid}" as adjacent list items. If the "--user", token is removed, the value still appears in args, and this assertion still passes. The test then cannot detect the regression.

Check the value that follows --user:

Suggested fix
- self.assertIn("1000:100", args)
+ self.assertEqual(args[args.index("--user") + 1], "1000:100")

This check also fails when --user is removed, because args.index("--user") raises ValueError.

438-441: Trivial · Functional Correctness · Quick win

The rerun test does not detect a rerun that omits the commentary flag argument. The mkvpropedit fake records only its name and changes track data on the first call. The second call therefore succeeds without changes, and the assertions pass.

The test is still useful. Its call-count assertion detects a removed rerun. The SetFlags sidecar state is recorded after any zero-exit call, so the existing state assertion does not check the flag argument. Making the second fake call always write flag_commentary would only make the fake report success. Gate the fake's second call on the argument, then assert that the reloaded track no longer has the SetFlags action. Keep the two-call assertion.

The MkvPropEdit fakes apply the Commentary flag only when asked to set
it, so a re-run that sends the wrong flag fails the cleanup tests. The
process_clip test checks that --user is followed by its IDs and that the
config mount comes before the image.

CodeRabbit follow-ups from the reviews of 123a42b and fa8798b:

  • Commentary flag on the cleanup re-run (raised on both heads): fixed in 396b1b9 and 6fc5f7f. The MkvPropEdit fake applies the flagged data only for flag-commentary=1 on the audio track's own track:@ selector. The test then asserts that no SetFlags action remains after reload. The same fix covers the sibling tests RepairMetadataErrors_RewriteDropsFlagsInRun_SetsThemInCleanupReRun and RepairMetadataErrors_TrackNeedsRemuxAndFlags_RemuxesThenSetsFlags. Sending the wrong flag name, clearing the flag, or targeting the wrong track each fails all three tests.
  • --user followed by 1000:100: fixed in 396b1b9, which checks the value by position.
  • Config mount before the image: fixed in 396b1b9, which reads --volume values only from the arguments before IMAGE.
