Infer generic class types from inherited Arguments rows - #7518
Generic test classes now infer constructor type arguments from inherited [Arguments] rows. Both generator paths collect base-class rows and reuse that collection in later inference phases, matching existing data-source collection.
Regression coverage includes multiple inheritance levels, inherited-only rows, direct and inherited rows with different types, and generic method/class argument combinations, inherited constructor rows with null method arguments, null inference when only a base class declares [GenerateGenericTest], and inherited constructor [MethodDataSource] rows combined with inherited [Arguments] and method arguments. Direct and inherited own-member sources register their declared constructor types before runtime partitioning, including interface-typed rows containing more specific runtime values. Matching method providers remain attached when constructor sources establish the class instantiation first, including inherited providers. Inherited open generic method providers defer to explicit closed class types rather than registering unresolved type parameters. Empty declared sources contribute no synthetic constructor rows, and inherited source flags are reflected in test metadata. The #7426 fixture no longer needs explicit generic type arguments for inherited arguments.
Explicit empty constructor groups preserve fallback constructor and literal method rows, while nonempty groups continue to scope their method rows. Deferred own-member constructor sources remain unpartitioned on explicit instantiations, preserving inherited literal and source rows together. Both cases have generated/reflection regression coverage. Core PublicAPI net10.0 passed; the matching enum addition is recorded for all framework snapshots, with other framework checks left to CI.
Inferred and explicit constructor-scoped instantiations retain compatible member and typed method providers even when their declared rows infer different class types. Constructor-source entries with no applicable literal method row are suppressed. A multiple-constructor-types fixture confirms the external method provider runs exactly once for each of its two closed types in both modes.
Adds the editor-hidden GenericClassRowFallback.OnlyWhenNoRowInfers enum value for generated code to retain explicit fallback entries only when no inferred constructor group exists; Core public API snapshots are updated. No runtime reflection changes. Existing build warnings are tracked by #7410, #7412, and #7438.

Bug Fixes
Generic test cases now recognize class-level arguments and data sources inherited from base classes, including through intermediate classes.
Inherited data sources work alongside method-level arguments, including nullable values and mixed data sources.
Generic type inference now handles inherited sources with external, constrained, and private row types, while preserving consistent type selection and declared row types.
Tests
Added regression coverage for inherited arguments, data sources, nullable values, and combinations of class- and method-level inputs.
Deferred own-member constructor sources now remain active beside nonempty declared sources, matching reflection discovery. Regression runs both constructor rows in each mode. Latest net10.0 validation: generator suite 329 passed/1 existing skip; #7490 generated 51 passed/3 skips, reflection 49 passed/3 skips.

Summary
Include inherited arguments in discovery src/TUnit.Core.SourceGenerator/Generators/TestMetadataGenerator.cs
Generic discovery collects class-level arguments and data sources from base types. An inherited [GenerateGenericTest] does not count as supplying class type arguments. Own-class method data-source row types can establish class instantiations.
Regression fixtures cover inherited constructor and method arguments, null rows, external and private row sources, and constrained types. The _7426 fixture removes an explicit [GenerateGenericTest] attribute. The source-generator test and verified output cover generated registrations and metadata.
thomhurst/TUnit#7446: This PR adds declared-row inference for own-class method data sources, but does not extend that inference to external providers.
thomhurst/TUnit#7333: This PR adds inference from own-member class method data sources, but external providers remain on runtime-value inference.
thomhurst/TUnit#7387: This PR applies the rule for class argument rows that supply no type arguments when evaluating inherited data-source attributes.
thomhurst/TUnit#7389: This PR changes the class-type-supplied check that determines inference for null method rows.
Merge Risk: Moderate · previous review e80d3
Generic test classes that combine direct class arguments with a method data source whose declared row type is broader than the runtime value can silently lose rows. Empty inherited sources can also fail at construction. Inherited-only tests may report incorrect data-source metadata. These behaviors should be fixed or consciously accepted before merging.

Explanation
Issue #7490 requires source-generated inference of generic test-class type arguments from inherited [Arguments] rows. In TestMetadataGenerator.cs, both generator paths now read class-level rows with GetAttributesIncludingBaseTypes() (the classArgumentsAttributes collection at the two IsGenericType sites). The later inference loops reuse that collection. The change also adds an inherited constructor [MethodDataSource] inference step before null method-row inference. A direct-only check for [GenerateGenericTest] keeps inherited attributes from suppressing null-row inference. The _7490/Tests.cs fixture covers inherited-only rows, multiple inheritance levels, mixed direct and inherited rows, and null method arguments. InheritedGenericArgumentsTests.cs and its verified snapshot check the generated registrations. The final partitioning change keeps declared own-member inference (ConfigureInferredSource), so it does not alter the requested inference. The reported core suite (329 passed, 1 skipped) and targeted fixture results support the change. The _7426 fixture no longer needs explicit GenerateGenericTest(typeof(int)), which confirms the inherited inference path. Test results were reported by the author and not re-run in this review.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The reviewed diff for TestMetadataGenerator.cs touches only class-row inference and emission for generic test classes. These changes serve #7490. The inherited MethodDataSource step, the own-class MethodDataSource helper (InferClassTypesFromOwnMethodDataSource), and the partition emission change all sit on the same constructor-type inference path that inherited rows use. The helper refactor that splits GetMethodDataSourceDeclaredRowType from InferTypesFromMethodDataSourceRowType keeps the existing behavior for method-level rows. The _7426 edit removes a GenerateGenericTest workaround that the new inference makes unnecessary. The changed-file set reported for this PR contains no public API or runtime reflection source changes. Only generator, snapshot, and test files are listed, so no unrelated change is shown.

A rabbit checks the rows at dawn, Inherited values hop along. A null stays null; types come to light, Source-generated tests take flight. The burrow fills with cases new, And carrots wait when checks are through.
The change is small and well-scoped. Class-level [Arguments] collection now goes through GetAttributesIncludingBaseTypes(), the same helper already used for class data sources at lines 513, 2606–2622, 2755 and 2999 of TestMetadataGenerator.cs. That gives the inheritance behaviour one definition, and the reflection path should stay consistent with it.
What I checked
Both inference paths (the main one around line 1240 and the second around line 6538) now use the same collected classArgumentsAttributes. The later phases at lines 1417, 1545, 1653 and 1786 reuse it instead of re-querying the type's own attributes, so they can't drift apart.
The new snapshot is consistent with this: one entry each for <bool>, <int> and <string>, with the inherited rows feeding createInstance.
If a derived class declares its own [Arguments] and a base also declares them, both sets now apply. That matches how class data sources already behave. The behaviour change is worth a line in the release notes, since previously only the derived class's rows were used.
The snapshot's __Attributes_* arrays now include the base class's ArgumentsAttribute entries. This looks intentional given the helper, but check that reflection mode produces the same attribute set. The PR says both modes were run, so I expect it does.
I didn't run the tests myself. The PR description reports the generator suite and the targeted fixture passing in both modes. Looks good to me.
[Medium impact] The PR appears safe to merge; the remaining numbered finding is fixed and no new actionable issues were found.

Fixed Greptile’s inherited-row supplied-types finding in 81f073e. Validation: generator suite 302 passed, 1 skipped; targeted #7490 fixture 12 passed in each discovery mode. The parallel build hit the known #7468 MSB4166 problem; a single-node build succeeded.
Disposition of Claude’s non-blocking notes: the PR body documents the inherited-row behavior for release-note preparation. Reflection mode includes the inherited attributes already and passes the same fixture; no runtime reflection change is needed.
The change is small and consistent. Class-level [Arguments] collection now uses GetAttributesIncludingBaseTypes(), the same helper the other class-level data-source lookups in TestMetadataGenerator already use (lines 513, 1704, 2607 and others).
Strengths:
The collection is computed once and reused in the later inference phases (classArgumentsAttributes replaces two further GetAttributes() calls). That removes the risk of the phases disagreeing, and it saves repeated attribute enumeration.
The new snapshot test and the _7490 fixture cover inherited-only rows, multiple inheritance levels, and mixed direct and inherited rows. The _7426 fixture no longer needs explicit generic arguments.
No public API or runtime reflection changes, so Native AOT and trimming are unaffected.
Minor points, not blocking:
Base-class rows are enumerated after the derived class's own rows (GetSelfAndBaseTypes order). If a derived class declares rows and the base class declares others, the inferred type is taken from the first row. A test with mixed types in that order would pin the behaviour. The PR says this case is covered, so this is only a request to confirm the assertion checks ordering.
The generated snapshot is 750 lines. A smaller fixture would make future snapshot diffs easier to review.
The change is small, targeted and looks correct. I only read the generator diff and the new snapshot. I did not build the PR or run any tests.
What I checked
The three places that read class-level [Arguments] with GetAttributes() now use GetAttributesIncludingBaseTypes(). These are the inference pass, GenerateGenericTestWithConcreteTypes collection and the generic-method combination pass. The later loops reuse the already-collected classArgumentsAttributes instead of re-reading attributes, so the passes can't disagree.
Null-row suppression (classTypeArgumentsSupplied) is split sensibly. GenerateGenericTest stays direct-only, and data sources use the inherited set. The new comment explains why.
The snapshot shows one test entry per inherited row (bool, int, string), each with the matching classDataSources. That fits the stated goal.
Notes (non-blocking)
AGENTS.md asks that metadata collection behave identically in the source generator and the reflection engine. The PR only changes the generator. The description says the new fixture passes in reflection mode (11/11), so no engine change appears to be needed. A short comment or PR note saying that reflection already handles inherited [Arguments] would settle it for future readers.
The suppression logic now has two GetAttributes traversals (direct for GenerateGenericTest, inherited for data sources). If the repeated base-type walk shows up in generator performance, the data-source check could reuse the classArgumentsAttributes collection already in scope. That would only apply to [Arguments], so it is probably not worth the extra complexity.
The TUnit.PublicAPI snapshots should be unaffected, since there are no public API changes.
Overall this is a good, minimal fix with solid regression coverage. Approving from my side.
Fixed Greptile’s outside-diff finding about inherited [GenerateGenericTest] in e256f59. Only directly declared generic-test attributes suppress null-row inference, matching both the sources that create generated entries and reflection mode. Inherited class data sources still supply types. The new regression failed before the fix because the object entry was absent; the reviewed snapshot now includes it.
Validation: core generator suite 302 passed, 1 skipped; targeted #7490 fixture 13 passed in source-generated mode and 13 in reflection mode; single-node net10.0 build succeeded.
Disposition of Claude’s latest non-blocking notes: the mixed direct/inherited fixture and snapshot verify all three concrete class types and their rows. Execution order is not an acceptance criterion. Keeping the fixture together lets this snapshot cover the interacting inference paths; its additional output is intentional.
Fixed the inherited constructor-source finding in 3bc9a66 and resolved its thread with the commit and regression evidence. Generator snapshots: 302 passed, 1 skipped; targeted #7490 fixture: 14 passed in source-generated mode and 14 in reflection mode; single-node net10.0 build succeeded.
Disposition of Claude’s remaining non-blocking notes: reflection already collects inherited class sources, as confirmed by the same regression fixture in both modes. Public API snapshots are unaffected. The existing collected Arguments rows cannot replace the separate check for all other data-source attribute kinds; no performance change is proposed.
The change is small and consistent. The source-generator paths now collect class-level [Arguments] from base types via GetAttributesIncludingBaseTypes(). That matches how class data sources are already collected at lines 513, 1707 and 1773 of TestMetadataGenerator.cs. Later phases reuse the classArgumentsAttributes collection instead of re-reading GetAttributes(), so the inference and generation phases can no longer disagree.
Points I checked:
Splitting classTypeArgumentsSupplied so GenerateGenericTest uses only directly declared attributes is deliberate, and the added comment explains it. It preserves null-row inference when only a base class declares the attribute, and the PR covers that case with a test.
The new snapshot shows one concrete class per inherited row (<bool>, <int>, <string>) with the matching classDataSources, so the output is correct.
The PR reports passing runs in both source-generated and reflection modes, as AGENTS.md requires.
Minor suggestion, not blocking: GetAttributesIncludingBaseTypes() is now called several times per generic test class. If it shows up in generator profiling, compute it once per testMethod and pass it along. I don't expect it to matter here.
Marked ready at unchanged head 3bc9a66 after confirming positive current-head Claude and Codex verdicts and resolved review threads. The new ready-for-review Claude run is 41707801693. Auto-merge remains unarmed until that run passes and its review is read, as required by the merge gate. CI has been triggered by promotion.
The change is small and focused. Generic test classes now collect [Arguments] rows from base types through GetAttributesIncludingBaseTypes(), the same way class data sources are collected. I read the generator diff and the test changes, but did not build the PR or run any tests.
What looks good
classArgumentsAttributes is collected once and reused in the later inference phases. This replaces the repeated GetAttributes().Where(...) calls, so the phases can't drift apart.
The new comment explains why GenerateGenericTest still uses only directly declared attributes. Without that split, a base class's [GenerateGenericTest] would wrongly suppress null-row inference.
The classTypeArgumentsSupplied predicate is now split into two Any passes over the attributes. A small helper such as HasClassTypeArgumentSource(typeSymbol) would give the rule a name and make it easier to keep in step with the reflection-mode equivalent.
Inherited rows depend on the GetAttributesIncludingBaseTypes ordering. Adding a test where a base class and a derived class both declare rows would pin the generated ordering.
This PR changes only src/TUnit.Core.SourceGenerator. Reflection mode passes the new fixtures, so the engine-side behaviour looks correct, but a short note in the code or PR description saying the Engine needed no change would help future readers.
Overall the change is correct and well tested. Approving in spirit.

Use constructor parameter types for class rows and restrict decimal rewriting to numeric literals.
For a base [Arguments(true)] row and a derived C<T>(T value) class with a test method that takes decimal, the inherited row can use the method parameter type instead of the constructor parameter type. The decimal branch then emits truem, which does not compile.
The same emitter logic was already present for directly declared class-level rows, so this is not introduced only by inherited-row support. The change makes the existing defect reachable for inherited rows as well.

Review of #7518 (inherited Arguments inference for generic test classes)
The core fix is right. Collecting base-class attributes with GetAttributesIncludingBaseTypes() and reusing classArgumentsAttributes in the later inference phases fixes the reported bug and matches how data sources are already collected. The regression fixtures and snapshot cover many edge cases. I only read the diff and did not build or run tests.
Concerns
Growing inference state. ConcreteInstantiation gains HasExplicitClassTypes and OnlyExplicitFallback, which interact with HasClassRows and HasMethodRows. ClassDataSourcePartition now branches on all four plus hasMatchingLiteralRow, hasCompileTimeClassRow and deferredOwnSources, and the RemoveAll predicate is hard to reason about. Consider one origin enum, or a policy method in GenericClassInferencePolicy that turns these facts into a single decision (RowFallback plus keep/remove). It would let the combinations be unit-tested directly instead of only through snapshots.
Emitting code by string surgery. sourceWriter.ToString().Trim().TrimEnd(',') is wrapped into ConfigureInferredSource(...). This breaks silently if GenerateDataSourceAttribute changes its trailing output. Add a variant that returns the bare expression, or takes a wrapper callback.
Repeated inference calls. InferClassTypesFromOwnMethodDataSource and InferTypesFromClassArgumentsAttribute are re-evaluated inside loops (the Any(...) per instantiation per source in RemoveAll, and deferredOwnSources per entry). Compute declared types once per source before the loops. The generator runs on every keystroke in the IDE.
New public API in TUnit.Core. PublicAPI snapshots change (GenericClassRowPartition.ConfigureInferredSource). Please confirm it is intentionally public, or hide it with EditorBrowsable(Never) like other generator-support helpers, and confirm AOT/trimming annotations hold since it takes Type arguments.
Summary: The fix direction is sound and test coverage is thorough. I would simplify the flag matrix and remove the string-trimming emission before this grows further. Neither is blocking.
Fixed both latest Codex/Greptile deferred-source findings in df68faa; both threads have regression evidence and are resolved. Validation: generator suite 329 passed/1 existing skip; full #7490 generated 51 passed/3 skips, reflection 49 passed/3 skips; exact regression two passes in each mode versus one on the unchanged generator. Reviewed and committed only the intentional verified snapshot.
Claude's latest non-blocking notes are dispositioned: inference-policy and expression-emitter simplification remain structural follow-ups tracked by #7377; caching remains profiling-led. ConfigureInferredSource is intentionally public for generated consumer code and already has EditorBrowsable(Never). It records/compares Type identities without discovering members, so it needs no additional trimming annotations. This commit changes generated composition only. Added an explicit fixture comment linking the known extra inferred int entries to #7446. Existing build warnings remain tracked by #7410, #7412 and #7438.
The earlier blocker run 41707801693 succeeded. Rechecked Resolve routes: #7490 is open, current, has no native prerequisites or children, and this PR retains Closes #7490. Its fix is absent from origin/main; merged #7491 delivers reflection discovery, not this generator change. No replacement supersedes #7518, no finished parent or stale scope needs closing, and no linked blocker needs another lock. A reversible fix was validated and pushed, so this unit is not a deferral. Fresh CI and automated reviews must assess this head before auto-merge is armed; auto-merge remains disabled.
Review of #7518 (inherited [Arguments] inference for generic test classes)
I read the diff statically. I did not build it or run the tests.
What looks good
The core fix is small and sensible. It switches class-data-source and class-[Arguments] collection to GetAttributesIncludingBaseTypes(), so inference, partition emission and runtime see the same set of rows.
It adds a snapshot for the inherited-only fixture and a regression fixture. The PR description lists both generator modes as validated.
It keeps the case where only a base class declares [GenerateGenericTest] from suppressing null-row inference.
Concerns
Scope and complexity. The PR started as 'collect inherited rows' but now adds several interacting concepts: HasExplicitClassTypes, OnlyExplicitFallback, AlwaysActiveSources, deferredOwnSources, hasMatchingLiteralRow and a new OnlyWhenNoRowInfers runtime fallback. The TestMetadataGenerator logic is now hard to reason about, because nested boolean combinations decide whether a row survives. I'd suggest two changes:
Move the decision into GenericClassInferencePolicy as a pure function, taking the flags and returning a fallback and a list of sources. It could then be table-tested without compiling fixtures.
Where possible, split the follow-on behaviours (explicit-fallback, deferred own-member sources, provider retention) into separate PRs. That makes regressions bisectable.
Hot-path allocations.GetAttributesIncludingBaseTypes() is now called many times per test method, in loops and in .Any(...) lambdas, and InferTypesFromClassArgumentsAttribute is re-run per entry. These are source-generator paths, so this is incremental-generator cost rather than runtime cost. Still, compute the base-inclusive attribute list and the inferred literal types once per testMethod and reuse them.
Generated-code string handling.sourceWriter.ToString().Trim().TrimEnd(',') is fragile. It breaks if GenerateDataSourceAttribute ever emits a trailing comment or multi-line initialiser. A helper that returns the expression without the trailing comma would be safer.
Test coverage. The scenarios in the description are broad, but the logic rests on boolean flags that are easy to regress. Policy-level unit tests (see point 1) would protect them better than the fixture alone.
No blocking correctness bug stood out from the diff, but given the complexity I'd want CI green in both modes, including the AOT and snapshot jobs, before merge.
Pushed 97e9f05 to fix the inherited deferred-provider finding, with regression evidence in its thread. Generator suite: 329 passed/1 existing skip; #7490 fixture: generated 53 passed/3 skips, reflection 51 passed/3 skips. The new regression runs both constructor rows in both modes; the unchanged generator ran only one. Reviewed and committed the intentional verified snapshot.
Claude's current-head nonblocking recommendations are dispositioned as follows: policy extraction, policy-level tests, and expression-emission cleanup remain scoped to #7377; splitting the existing interdependent fixes now would duplicate their shared entry/partition changes, so retain this PR's regression-covered correctness fixes. #7446 explicitly owns class-source inference parity and its earlier comments include the interface-row reproductions; the known extra inferred entries remain a concrete acceptance concern there. Attribute and literal-inference caching remains a profiling-led follow-up, rather than an unmeasured performance change in this fix. CI must still validate the broader platform/AOT matrix before merge.
The earlier blocker run 41707801693 completed successfully. Rechecked the Resolve routes: #7490 is open, has no native prerequisites or children, and this PR still says Closes #7490. This generator change is absent from origin/main; merged #7491 provides reflection support. No replacement supersedes this PR, no finished parent or stale issue needs closing, and no linked prerequisite requires another lock. This unit pushed a verified fix rather than deferring. Auto-merge remains disabled pending fresh reviews and CI for the new head.
Review of PR 7518 (inherited [Arguments] for generic class inference)
Summary: The fix does what the PR says. It collects base-class rows with GetAttributesIncludingBaseTypes() in both inference and emission, and an inherited [GenerateGenericTest] no longer suppresses null-row inference. Regression coverage is broad: a verified snapshot, the 7490 fixture, and the 7426 fixture without explicit type arguments. The public API snapshot changes are the expected new OnlyWhenNoRowInfers enum member.
I only read the diff and did not build or run anything. I read the generator and GenericClassRowPartition changes in detail and skimmed the snapshot and test files.
Concerns
The state is getting hard to reason about. ConcreteInstantiation now carries HasClassRows, HasMethodRows, HasNoClassRow, HasExplicitClassTypes and OnlyExplicitFallback, and those drive a fallback enum, deferredOwnSources and AlwaysActiveSources. I'd suggest one small pure function in GenericClassInferencePolicy that maps these flags to an explicit mode (for example Inferred, ExplicitOnly, ExplicitFallback). Emission would switch on the mode instead of re-deriving it from boolean combinations. That is easier to unit test and lowers the risk of the two metadata-collection modes drifting apart, which AGENTS.md requires to behave identically.
Repeated recomputation in a generator hot path. InferTypesFromClassArgumentsAttribute and InferClassTypesFromOwnMethodDataSource are called repeatedly per entry inside .Any(...) and .Where(...).ToArray(). Computing each source's inferred types once and caching them per method would avoid repeated symbol walks. GetAttributesIncludingBaseTypes() is also called at about eight sites; calling it once and reusing the result would be cleaner.
String-built emission. The ConfigureInferredSource(...) call is built by rendering the source into a throwaway CodeWriter and then calling Trim().TrimEnd(','). That is brittle: a change to GenerateDataSourceAttribute formatting would silently break the emitted code. An overload or flag that omits the trailing comma would be safer. The collection-expression assembly through AppendLine/Append would also benefit from a small helper.
Parity gap. Source-generated mode emits three extra inferred int entries compared to reflection mode (tracked in 7446). Please make sure that issue is linked to the relevant test expectation so it is not forgotten.
Verdict: The change looks correct for the cases listed and I found no blocking bugs. My main requests are item 1 (consolidating the flag combinations) and the caching in item 2. Both are fine as follow-ups if CI passes in both modes.
Review of #7518 (inherited [Arguments] generic class inference, closes #7490)
I read the runtime partition code and the inference policy in full. I did not read the whole 19-commit generator diff, and I didn't build or run the tests. The CI results and the PR's own validation notes are what I'm relying on for behaviour.
What works
The core fix is small and correct: GetAttributesIncludingBaseTypes() for class-level ArgumentsAttribute in generic discovery. It matches how data sources are already collected.
Putting the shared decisions in GenericClassInferencePolicy (compiled into the engine and the generator) is a good way to keep the two modes consistent, as AGENTS.md requires.
Concerns
Scope vs. the issue. A one-line discovery fix has grown into a new fallback enum, a ConfigureInferredSource hook, FilterClassRows and InferredClassTypeArguments on MethodDataSourceAttribute, and changes to row partitioning semantics. Those are broader behaviour changes, such as OnlyWhenNoRowInfers and the empty-group rules. Please split the pure Source-generated generic class inference ignores inherited Arguments rows #7490 fix from the partitioning and MethodDataSource changes, so each can be reviewed and reverted on its own.
Public API growth.GenericClassRowFallback gains OnlyWhenNoRowInfers, and ConfigureInferredSource is new. Both are public and only hidden with EditorBrowsable. Generated code needs them, but they are now a compatibility surface. Making the enum and helper internal is probably not possible because generated code lives in user assemblies. If that's right, say so in the PR. Otherwise, consider a single options struct or a versioned entry point, so the next semantic tweak doesn't need another public enum member.
Global mutable state.DeclaredRowTypes is a static ConditionalWeakTable keyed by the attribute instance. That is implicit side-channel state. It works only if every caller goes through ConfigureInferredSource, and MethodDataSourceAttribute already takes the explicit-property route. Using one mechanism for both would be more discoverable, for example a small internal wrapper source that carries the declared types. That is also the easier route for trimming and AOT.
Inference rules live in several places.InferClassTypeArguments, RowInfers and the policy methods all encode 'which row belongs to which instantiation', and the engine's reflection resolver mirrors it. The doc comments admit the duplication. A test that runs the same fixture matrix through both modes and compares instantiation assignments would protect it. The PR notes show the modes still differ: reflection closes over a private runtime row, and generated mode emits 3 extra inferred int entries (tracked in Infer generic class types from class MethodDataSource rows using shared runtime support #7446). Please make sure that gap is pinned by an explicit test rather than left as a known difference.
Evaluation cost.Coordinator.EvaluateAsync runs every partitioned source once per test build, per instantiation. Sources that are expensive or non-deterministic (for example DI-scoped) are evaluated N times for N instantiations. This was already true. The PR adds more partitioned sources, so it should be measured, per the perf guidance in AGENTS.md.
Verdict: the behaviour looks right and is well tested, but I'd ask for the split in (1). Please also confirm the public-API additions in (2) are necessary, and add the cross-mode parity test in (4).
Run 41707801693 completed successfully, so the earlier wait no longer applies. Current head aee2f77 has 20 Claude review rounds; the latest review requests splitting literal discovery from constructor-source partitioning. The rework-budget rule therefore requires a split instead of another fix push.
Native sub-issues of #7490 now track the independently reviewable parts:
Open blockers are the requested scope split, generator Test/GeneratesCachedAotCompatibleGetters output assertion failures in run 41756832532, and the Issue7208 AOT expectation mismatch (42 passing/1 failing instead of 39 passing/4 failing) in run 41756832504. The sub-issues require investigation rather than blindly changing expectations. Both public generator helpers must remain callable from consumer assemblies; their necessity and AOT compatibility must be documented in the source-composition PR. Known #7446 parity differences must be pinned explicitly. Existing structural follow-ups remain in #7377.
The shared insertion points are TestMetadataGenerator.cs inference, partition and emission blocks; there are no current merge conflicts (one force-push event). The branch issue-7490-inherited-inference is retained for selective reuse, not whole-diff cherry-picking. All inline threads are resolved; the latest conversation review is addressed by this split.
Rechecked Resolve routes: #7490 remains unimplemented on origin/main, has no parent or prerequisite, and is current. This PR was its sole closing implementation; the new native children replace its scope. No external gate, human decision or additional repository blocker requires deferral. Closing this over-budget PR without merging and removing the parent claim follows the skill; later units can implement the children.

Generic test classes now infer constructor type arguments from inherited
[Arguments]rows. Both generator paths collect base-class rows and reuse that collection in later inference phases, matching existing data-source collection.Regression coverage includes multiple inheritance levels, inherited-only rows, direct and inherited rows with different types, and generic method/class argument combinations, inherited constructor rows with null method arguments, null inference when only a base class declares
[GenerateGenericTest], and inherited constructor[MethodDataSource]rows combined with inherited[Arguments]and method arguments. Direct and inherited own-member sources register their declared constructor types before runtime partitioning, including interface-typed rows containing more specific runtime values. Matching method providers remain attached when constructor sources establish the class instantiation first, including inherited providers. Inherited open generic method providers defer to explicit closed class types rather than registering unresolved type parameters. Empty declared sources contribute no synthetic constructor rows, and inherited source flags are reflected in test metadata. The #7426 fixture no longer needs explicit generic type arguments for inherited arguments.Closes #7490
Validation:

Deferred own-member constructor sources now remain active beside nonempty declared sources, matching reflection discovery. Regression runs both constructor rows in each mode. Latest net10.0 validation: generator suite 329 passed/1 existing skip; #7490 generated 51 passed/3 skips, reflection 49 passed/3 skips.
