fix(server): Pi editor dialogs prefill the answer composer - #17206
Conversation
ApprovabilityVerdict: Not approved Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This changes the existing Pi editor flow across server contracts, shared draft resolution, and web/mobile composers, including a new literal multiline editing mode that preserves whitespace and empty answers. The cross-client behavior change and substantial composer logic create a broader blast radius than a small self-contained fix. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

The main identified design risk is compatibility: older clients lose the previous editor preview and empty-answer option. Some recovery and data-retention behavior remains unverified. - Around line 2928-2929: Update the editor-question construction around
question, initialAnswer, and options to preserve compatibility with clients that
do not support initialAnswer: include the prefill in question and keep the
empty-value submission option, or gate this flow on client support for
initialAnswer.
Review comments at @apps/web/src/components/ComposerPromptEditorTiptap.tsx:
- Line 977: Update literal-mode snapshot and callback paths in
serializeEditorDoc and readSnapshot to use an empty context-ID list rather than
parsed map.contextIds, since literal answers create no context chips. Add a test
confirming formatted context-reference text does not expose context IDs in
literal mode.

Pi editor dialogs show a truncated, read-only copy of the supplied text and leave the answer composer blank. The full text now prefills the existing answer composer on web, desktop, and mobile.
The optional question field travels through the shared contracts and MCP pending-request read. Editor answers preserve whitespace, empty replies, and token-shaped text; web editing bypasses Markdown list transforms and autocomplete, and mobile uses multiline input.
Fixes #16101.
Validation: focused adapter, contract, draft, and editing tests; scoped package typechecks and lint. The isolated web client was checked in Chrome on the Mac mini with a 3,278-character synthetic draft, newline/caret editing, and clearing. Native mobile was checked through shared tests and types, without a simulator pass. Older clients ignore the prefill field and lose the former text preview and empty-value option; they need updating for this editor flow.
Before
Synthetic request using the old truncated payload.
After
The same full draft in the existing answer composer.
