Hovering a sidebar row changed the width of its status slot, moving the pin and Woke label. The slot now reserves room for both states: status and actions overlap in one grid cell, while Woke keeps its own column. Slim Woke rows also reserve action space. Main’s pin placement, sweep controls, and any-hover behavior are preserved. Reserving this space can truncate project labels sooner.

Taken over from @flamboh’s original work in #11122, merged with current main and rebuilt around its newer controls.

Verification on the rebuilt head:

  • PR tests: 0 → 0; no existing rendered-row harness proves CSS geometry. Existing Sidebar logic/snooze/drag/motion and thread-action suites: 241 passed. Web typecheck, scoped lint, formatting and diff checks passed.
  • One independent review round with Claude Opus 5.5 and Codex GPT-6 Sol: no code blockers. Historical static/absolute concern was rechecked against Tailwind Merge.
  • Actual isolated Linux web app, matching data and 1280×800 viewport: before, pin x187 →138.09 and Woke x188.23 →107.32 on hover; after, pin stays138.09 and Woke107.32. Pin stays fixed with keyboard focus and the snooze popover open.
  • Slim layout and sweep paths were reviewed in source; macOS, Windows, iOS, Android and Electron desktop were not run. No provider-specific or wire changes.

Approvability

Verdict: Approved at 1d087d2

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a narrowly scoped single-file CSS fix that stabilizes sidebar markers without changing application logic, data contracts, or product defaults. An unresolved Medium-severity correctness finding about slim-row positioning remains an independent blocker to automatic approval.

📝 Walkthrough

The sidebar changes action positioning in slim rows and the layout and visibility of status labels and controls in card rows. Woke-row actions use static positioning. Card-row status and controls share a grid cell.

Changes: Sidebar status and actions

Layer / File(s) Summary
Row status and actions
apps/web/src/components/Sidebar.tsx
Slim-row actions use static positioning whenever the row is Woke. In card rows, status labels and controls share a grid cell. Read-only status fades on hover or control focus and hides when the snooze menu is open. Woke status remains interactive, and controls stay visible while the snooze menu is open.

Hovering a narrow sidebar-row state can hide its status or time label without showing an action. This is a localized presentation issue; the PR is otherwise mergeable, though the visibility condition should be fixed.

1 is on the PR right now since it's the more minimal change, but I do like 2 a bit more since it avoids the project title truncation.

The recordings show the pin staying stable, but Maria's placement question is still open and the PR keeps option 1. Could Maria confirm which placement should proceed? The contribution guide leaves that unresolved product choice with maintainers.

The pin marker sits directly left of the sidebar row's status slot, which
swapped which state is in flow on hover: the time label left the flow and
the Settle actions entered it. Every width change dragged the pin sideways.
The slim row had the same problem in its Woke state.

The card slot now stacks the status label and the hover actions in one grid
cell, so it is always as wide as its wider state and only opacity swaps on
hover. The slim row keeps its Woke action in flow at rest for the same
reason.

Taking over this one. I will keep the marker placement from main, preserve the newer sweep and hover controls, and verify stable pin and Woke positions before pushing to this branch.
