Problem

Android emulators without image-file camera support exit immediately because the device hub passes unsupported imagefile: camera arguments. Boot failures also hid the hub's launch diagnostics, and CoreSimulator discovery showed a persistent warning for a deleted simulator's missing plist.

Change

Probe the installed emulator's front and back camera modes on local and SSH device hosts. Override unsupported image-file cameras with emulated cameras, preserve image-file support where available, and keep explicit launch arguments last so user overrides still apply. Restart remote helpers when their camera configuration changes.

Expose boot diagnostics to authorized device users and agents, capped at 2,000 characters. Document this deliberate exception in the service guidance and matching review checklist. Ignore only missing simulator plist ENOENT warnings, keep other discovery failures visible and dismissible, give Start/Open/Refresh explicit button styling, and keep loading content centered when notices appear.

Scope and approval

Requested by the maintainer to fix emulator startup and make device failures diagnosable. The bounded diagnostic text is intentional and explicitly requested; the documentation exception applies only to DeviceBootError.diagnostics.

Verification

• 72 focused tests passed across LocalDeviceHost.test.ts, sshDeviceScript.test.ts, DeviceService.test.ts, and McpDeviceToolkit.test.ts.
• Scoped server, web, and contracts type checks passed. Targeted lint, formatting, and diff checks passed.
• Reproduced Pixel6Play's immediate exit with the hub's image-file camera flags. The supported-camera override booted the same AVD successfully.
• Started Pixel6Play through the updated T3 Code dev Devices panel and verified its live, interactive Android home screen in Chrome.
• Remote camera configuration is covered by the generated SSH script tests; a separate physical remote host was not tested.
• CI on 5cb70ee486280cd48df5478831aad566b6e51435 passed, including build/typecheck, lint, all eight server test jobs, web tests, package tests, release smoke, and the aggregate check. CodeRabbit and Macroscope correctness checks passed.
