fix(transport): release disposed SOCKS5 readers and timeout closures - #8203
A SOCKS5 framing read can resume after its reader is disposed and wait forever on detached listeners, retaining request state. Mark the reader terminal during disposal and remove the timeout callbacks owned by each transport phase when it ends. Buffered handshake bytes and unrelated timeout listeners keep their existing behavior.
Prior art: the Node.js socket timeout documentation distinguishes disabling the timeout with setTimeout(0) from registering its callback as a timeout event listener.
Verification
bun run typecheck — passed (2,317 files).
env -u HTTP_PROXY -u HTTPS_PROXY -u ALL_PROXY -u NO_PROXY -u http_proxy -u https_proxy -u all_proxy -u no_proxy bun test tests/lib/socks5-reader-lifecycle.test.ts tests/lib/socks5-timeout-cleanup.test.ts tests/lib/socks5-fetch.test.ts tests/lib/socks5-tls-lifecycle.test.ts tests/lib/socks5-upload-lifecycle.test.ts tests/test-layout.test.ts tests/test-layout-tooling.test.ts — 106 passed, 0 failed. Proxy variables are removed only for this child process; this makes the original documentation review's environment requirement executable.
The two new regression files on unmodified dev: 3 passed, 10 failed; after the fix they pass as part of the 106-test run.
bun run structure:check, bun run privacy:scan, bun scripts/file-size-ratchet.ts — passed.
bun run test:changed — exit 1: 50,673 passed, 242 skipped, 7 failed across 2,272 files. All seven failures reproduced on both this branch and unmodified dev (f202b2d4032862ad128b13f44193010331d5a82c). They are baseline failures in this environment, not claimed as passing.
bun test tests/codex-integration/catalog-omit-disabled-native.test.ts — branch and base each 21 pass / 1 fail, exit 1 (baseline).
bun test tests/codex-integration/codex-cli-update-apply.test.ts — branch and base each 40 pass / 3 fail, exit 1 (baseline).
bun test tests/codex-integration/codex-composed-acceptance.test.ts — branch and base each 9 pass / 1 fail, exit 1 (baseline).
bun test tests/update/update-stop-first.test.ts — branch and base each 25 pass / 1 fail, exit 1 (baseline).
bun test tests/cli/sibling-home-client-sync.test.ts — branch and base each 36 pass / 1 fail, exit 1 (baseline).
Earlier CI runs had one shard cancelled after approximately 15 minutes, matching the configured job timeout; their logs were empty, so the cause is unconfirmed. A subsequent rerun on the previous head completed successfully; the rebased head requires its own CI.
Full bun run test was not run locally because six lanes ran concurrently; broader suite and cross-platform coverage remain with CI. The source-reading regression and layout fixtures require ci:full.

Bug Fixes
Improved reliability of SOCKS5 connections when a read is disposed or the connection ends, including preserving existing connection errors.
SOCKS5 handshake and response timeouts are now cleared when their respective phases finish or the request terminates, reducing the chance of stale timeout behavior.
The SOCKS5 transport now removes owned handshake and response timeout callbacks when their phases end. SocketReader.dispose() now ends the reader, preserves prior failures, clears buffered bytes, and rejects pending reads consistently. New lifecycle tests and test-layout mappings cover these behaviors.
SocketReader.dispose() marks the reader ended, preserves an existing failure, and uses one failure for pending and later reads. Tests cover partial reads, repeated disposal, buffered bytes, socket errors, EOF, and abort listeners.
The transport removes named handshake and response timeout callbacks at completion and error boundaries. Tests cover response outcomes, timeout errors, and unrelated listeners. The test-layout mappings and transport documentation include the lifecycle coverage and cleanup contracts.
lidge-jun/opencodex#8142: The summaries describe the same SOCKS5 reader disposal and timeout callback cleanup changes, with the same lifecycle test files.
Merge Risk: Minimal · up to 777eb
The change makes reader disposal terminal and removes phase-owned timeout callbacks. No demonstrated merge-blocking regression remains; the possible socket-error race is unconfirmed.

Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
In socks5Connect, the handshake timeout is armed with socket.setTimeout(..., onHandshakeTimeout) and the finally block always calls socket.setTimeout(0) and removes the listener, but nothing in the visible code guards the window between a handshake timeout firing (socket.destroy(err)) and the reader's error handling. The SocketReader constructor registers once('error'), so a timeout-destroy error reaches the reader; however after dispose removes the error listener in finally, a later asynchronous error emitted on the returned socket (e.g. destroy(err) emitted on nextTick) could have no listener.
An 'error' event emitted on a socket with no listener throws as an uncaught exception, which could crash the process or request path.
This can occur when: The handshake timeout fires, or a destroy(error) is queued, at the same moment the handshake completes or fails and reader.dispose(true) removes the socket 'error' listener before the queued error event is emitted.

* fix(claude): normalize direct context overflow errors with parity coverage (lidge-jun#8148)
* fix(claude): normalize direct context overflow errors
* test(claude): cover generic overflow parity and document direct errors
Preserve the existing direct-encoder fix and cover four generic error codes across streaming and folded responses.
Verified tree matches local commit 25f1104c7631e713199de631505c1dba01ff49d3.
* test(messages): align generic overflow normalization expectations
* fix(responses): lower ocx envelopes on native v1 compact (lidge-jun#8042) (lidge-jun#8151)
Canonical ChatGPT and official OpenAI native /responses/compact sends
forwarded OpenCodex-owned ocx1:/ocx2: compaction envelopes verbatim, so the
upstream rejected them as invalid_encrypted_content. Only the custom gateway
send lowered them. Run scrubOcxCompactionItems on the non-gateway send as
well, so the envelopes become plain user summaries like on ordinary turns,
while native blobs stay byte-identical for these decoding destinations.

* fix(codex): preserve pre-output hold across safe WS heartbeats (lidge-jun#8188)
* fix(codex): preserve pre-output hold across safe WS heartbeats
* test(codex): cover heartbeat cancellation and sequence bounds
* test(codex): assert the relayed refusal frame reaches the body
The parameterised "relayed in the body" cases only checked the status, so a
regression that dropped the frame would still pass. Assert the event marker and
message, and say in the transport contract that sequence_number is also bounded
to a non-negative safe integer.
* fix(terminal-guard): pass completion summaries that follow tool results (lidge-jun#8154)
* fix(terminal-guard): pass completion summaries that follow tool results
The Anthropic terminal guard read the latest user text and ignored tool
activity after it, so a normal turn (request -> tool calls -> tool
results -> short "done" summary) was classified suspicious_no_tool. The
relay then appended the plan-only nudge and re-asked the model, which
re-ran tools it had already run and repeated the cycle on every client
turn.
Tool calls or results after the latest user message now mark the turn as
already executed; only a renewed plan announcement (PLAN_INTENT_RE) is
still continued.
* fix(terminal-guard): stop the tool-activity pass at a stalled plan announcement
A text-only plan announcement after the last tool activity means the turn
stalled there, so a following completion is continued again, matching
recentTurnHasToolActivity. Pin the boundary for next-step wording: first-person
plans still continue, while a summary that suggests a next step to the user
passes.

* fix(mistral): keep replayed images within each model's per-request cap (lidge-jun#8174)
Mistral rejects requests that carry more images than a model accepts,
counting the whole replayed history: most vision models refuse a ninth
image with HTTP 400, and DeepSeek V4.1 Flash answers an opaque HTTP 503
(code 3800) past 20. A screenshot-heavy session then fails on every turn.
For the first-party Mistral destination, messagesToChatFormat now keeps
the newest image_url parts within the model's cap and replaces older ones
with a text note naming the cap, in the outbound copy only. The cap is the
new modelCapabilities.<id>.mistralMaxImages axis: an operator declaration
over the measured rows on the mistral registry entry, else the documented 8.

* fix(openai-chat): flatten Claude gateway root tool schemas
Apply the supplied Claude Chat gateway compatibility patch to current dev.
Flatten root oneOf/anyOf/allOf by upstream model id while preserving nested
schemas and literal values. Keep existing Zen and Azure sanitization intact.
Cover root compositions, required fields, wire-model overrides, non-Claude
exclusion, nested schema preservation and input immutability. Register the
new suite in the existing providers layout shard and document the lossy
root normalization contract.
* fix(openai-chat): preserve Claude root reference arguments
Preserve own __proto__ argument names and resolve local root-branch ref
chains with a shared 64-dereference budget per tool schema. Keep nested
schemas and existing Zen/Azure handling unchanged. Preserve the original
composition for cyclic, missing, external, over-budget or nested-composition
references instead of emitting an incomplete flattened argument catalog.
Add regression coverage for local references, safety fallbacks, property
precedence and non-final Claude name segments. Clarify allOf required-field
promotion and reference limits in the public and architecture docs.
