test(messages): restore Windows fixture coverage - #8214
Make Messages fixture loaders accept native Windows separators, and normalize source-roster keys before exact comparison. Fixture instrumentation now verifies the intended upstream refusal, native pacing and SSE spend hooks actually execute; red-source and default paths are isolated.
Verify the streaming writer receives no collection sink, then use the existing child to prove a non-stream record is admitted, matched to its original verdict and drained. This overlaps the Messages portion of test: stabilize Windows fixture setup and source checks #8176; its other work remains outside this PR.
Verification
Windows 11 mini, Bun 1.4.4, head f380fe918c6e2b0e6f17c9bf69c4bfe9475d55ce: bun run typecheck — no errors in 2,317 files; bun run test:changed — 90 pass, 0 fail, 480 assertions, 4 files; bun run privacy:scan — passed.
Focused Windows baseline at f202b2d4032862ad128b13f44193010331d5a82c: review-regressions 10 pass / 1 fail; error-contracts 37 / 2; proxy-refusals 20 / 16; SSE workflow 0 / 4 with one 5s timeout and an associated unhandled error. After the fix, all four files passed, including explicit hook and overlay checks. Both parent suites also passed with MESSAGES_RED_SOURCE set to a nonexistent inherited path.
The SSE suite's first fresh child repeatedly exceeded Bun's implicit 5s default: a diagnostic run completed in 6,354.79ms and the normal post-change run in 8,122.45ms. The suite now uses the existing SPAWN_BUDGET_MS for real subprocesses. An ablation of the SSE path filter produced 502 / one send / zero hook hits; the corrected filter produced 429 / zero sends / one hook hit. Its existing forced-timeout descendant-cleanup risk remains separate and unresolved.
A scratch mutation of sink admission preserved HTTP 502 but changed admitted/matched counts from 1/1 to 0/0, demonstrating the new assertions detect the false-green case. A separate filter toggle at the pre-edit f202b2d403 produced 529 → 200 → 529. Bun documents onLoad filters and callbacks.
NOT RUN: full local suite because this Windows host is shared with another lane; Linux/macOS local runs. Hosted PR checks and the explicitly authorized branch Windows proof are pending.
Checklist
Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
Docs or release notes were updated when needed (test-only change; no user-facing behavior change).
Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults (synthetic fixtures; privacy scan passed).
The Messages integration tests now normalize source paths across platforms and record RED-source loading, refusal-hook activity, sink admission and collection results, and workflow filter checks.
Changes: Messages refusal test coverage
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Path normalization and RED-source refusal checks tests/claude-integration/messages-error-contracts.test.ts, tests/claude-integration/messages-proxy-refusals.test.ts, tests/helpers/messages-proxy-refusal-case.ts
The source scans normalize matched paths to forward slashes. Proxy refusal tests create marked RED-source trees for selected cases and check loaded inputs, filter directions, and hook activity.
The workflow fixture matches native paths with either slash style and reports hook and filter checks. The integration test asserts these observations and uses the shared spawn-time budget as its timeout.
lidge-jun/opencodex#8153: Adds the refusal fixtures and sink admission and collection contract exercised by these tests.
lidge-jun/opencodex#8176: Also addresses Windows path handling in Messages fixtures and source-roster checks.
lidge-jun/opencodex#8164: Adds native workflow spend-refusal detail and the fixture whose path filtering this PR updates.

Add negative path checks for the loader filters.
The assertions check only intended paths. A broadened native filter could also match src/server/chat-native.ts without failing them. That file contains the replacement anchor, so the anchor guard would not catch the match.
Add unrelated paths for each filter in both separator styles.

Assert the collected refusal body.
In tests/claude-integration/messages-review-regressions.test.ts:38-42, a corrupted nonempty 502 body can pass: collectedMatches checks an internal sink value, not the response. Return the collected text from the fixture and compare its parsed body with the complete expected error envelope.

The RED copy differs from the default source only by a comment. If the loader records the RED read but returns the instrumented default source, the sink-direct assertions can still pass. Add a RED-only marker to admitMessagesFailure and assert that it runs.

Strengthen the sink-direct regression in the test setup so it proves
`admitMessagesFailure` from the RED verdict source actually executes, not merely
that the loader read that source. Add a RED-only execution marker at the verdict
admission point, assert it is greater than zero in the sink-direct case, and
initialize the marker in the fixture hooks; validate the admission anchor is
unique before instrumenting it.
Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Files are excluded from the general RED plugin only when their relative path is in instrumented. The filter built from repoPath(path) is anchored to repo-root paths, but readOriginal's relative(repoPath(), path) assumes the loaded path is under the repo root. Paths loaded via symlink or realpath differences (for example Windows 8.3 short names or a macOS /private prefix) could produce ../ relative paths. The filter would then mismatch silently, and RED sources would not be loaded.
RED substitution is skipped. Tests that assert redInputs would fail, or, for non-asserted cases, the fixture would silently test the wrong source.
This can occur when: The repo is accessed through a symlinked or short-name path on Windows or macOS, so the module path Bun passes to onLoad differs from repoPath().

Windows proof (branch lane=all run https://github.com/lidge-jun/opencodex/actions/runs/42161735382 on this exact head): the four targeted Messages files (review-regressions, proxy-refusals, sse-workflow-refusal, error-contracts) no longer fail; shards 2/11 and 9/11 turned green. Remaining Windows failures in that run are other pre-existing clusters (overflow child budget, profile guard, uninstall junction, client-link-stop) plus two newly observed ones, all tracked by the Windows-baseline lane.
Review: test helpers' Bun onLoad filters now match both path separators with an admission receipt so a missed interception cannot pass silently; source-path count maps compare normalized keys. * fix(responses): lower ocx envelopes on native v1 compact (lidge-jun#8042) (lidge-jun#8151)
Canonical ChatGPT and official OpenAI native /responses/compact sends
forwarded OpenCodex-owned ocx1:/ocx2: compaction envelopes verbatim, so the
upstream rejected them as invalid_encrypted_content. Only the custom gateway
send lowered them. Run scrubOcxCompactionItems on the non-gateway send as
well, so the envelopes become plain user summaries like on ordinary turns,
while native blobs stay byte-identical for these decoding destinations.

* fix(codex): preserve pre-output hold across safe WS heartbeats
* test(codex): cover heartbeat cancellation and sequence bounds
* test(codex): assert the relayed refusal frame reaches the body
The parameterised "relayed in the body" cases only checked the status, so a
regression that dropped the frame would still pass. Assert the event marker and
message, and say in the transport contract that sequence_number is also bounded
to a non-negative safe integer.
* fix(terminal-guard): pass completion summaries that follow tool results (lidge-jun#8154)
* fix(terminal-guard): pass completion summaries that follow tool results
The Anthropic terminal guard read the latest user text and ignored tool
activity after it, so a normal turn (request -> tool calls -> tool
results -> short "done" summary) was classified suspicious_no_tool. The
relay then appended the plan-only nudge and re-asked the model, which
re-ran tools it had already run and repeated the cycle on every client
turn.
Tool calls or results after the latest user message now mark the turn as
already executed; only a renewed plan announcement (PLAN_INTENT_RE) is
still continued.
* fix(terminal-guard): stop the tool-activity pass at a stalled plan announcement
A text-only plan announcement after the last tool activity means the turn
stalled there, so a following completion is continued again, matching
recentTurnHasToolActivity. Pin the boundary for next-step wording: first-person
plans still continue, while a summary that suggests a next step to the user
passes.

* fix(mistral): keep replayed images within each model's per-request cap (lidge-jun#8174)
Mistral rejects requests that carry more images than a model accepts,
counting the whole replayed history: most vision models refuse a ninth
image with HTTP 400, and DeepSeek V4.1 Flash answers an opaque HTTP 503
(code 3800) past 20. A screenshot-heavy session then fails on every turn.
For the first-party Mistral destination, messagesToChatFormat now keeps
the newest image_url parts within the model's cap and replaces older ones
with a text note naming the cap, in the outbound copy only. The cap is the
new modelCapabilities.<id>.mistralMaxImages axis: an operator declaration
over the measured rows on the mistral registry entry, else the documented 8.
